Gonna Try This Finally

My first sandbox MMORPG was SWG. When I started playing it, the game was buggy and the enemy AI was terrible. You didn't play SWG to solo PvE. You played it to play with others and RP, and later on to PvP. So I asked myself why I wasn't trying MO if my only reasons is because of the bugs and general negativity surrounding the game. So I'm going to finally try it.

In many sandbox games, players are forced to do things they don't enjoy in order to survive. For instance, you MUST craft or gather in order to earn money to buy gear. I'm the type of player who can't stand crafting or gathering. I like playing as an adventurer. Meaning I explore the world increasing the skills of my character by beating down baddies, and taking their loot or finding treasure somewhere. I then return to town and sell that treasure and loot.

I mean, how many soldiers in the real world learn to make their own weapons, tanks, and so on AND also fight with them? That's something that's always bothered me in sandbox MMO's.

Another question I have is why does everyone wear the same black looking armor, wield two-handed swords, and wears no shoes? I seen a reall long combat video and every player in that video, except maybe one (who wore plate I believe), were as I described.

Because there are only 2-3 armor and weapon types viable.  Do not listen to the FB's and the millions of combinations.  Only a handfull are used.  And there is no armor customization and there is no clothing.  So you are going to see everyone wearing the same thing pretty much.

You can pretty much solo fight everything in Nave but the Kimura you can do him with a friend but it will take you 15 hours.

There is no treasure or dynamic loot.  You kill something even if it is a huminoid and you get a carcass which you have to butcher.

Exploring well there are no POI's you can pretty much explore the map of Nave within a week find some spots you like to hunt and repeat.

yes, wile there are many combinations of materials taht you can use for armors, the best combinations (wight/damage mitigation ratio) are only 3 or 4. this has only been slightly improved by heavy armor training which allowes people to use metal plate armor. so now days it's more like 5 or 6 types of armor :P. keep in mind that many guilds have standard armor sets for all their fighters so that's also why they all look the same.

two handed swords are the favourite weappon of many because they have the best damage/weight ratio, the largest area of contact (less handle hits), the least stamina drain of all 2 handers.

as for the shoes....since every piece of armor adds to equip weight, by removing your boots you can wear litle heavier helm or chest piece and still remain unencumbered. nobody hits your feet anyways.

by the way this game is NOT solo friendly. it is very hard to do even teh simplest of things all by yourself, like finding weappons and armor. i highly reccomand joining a guild.

oghmium spear on short handle with or without shield

    short bow

    long bow

    asymetrical bow

when it coems to armor types heres a list of usable types also only idiots or peopel confident in their pvp prowess wear no boots, or sometimes mages but its always best to wear them.

tindremic scale armor horned scale (mage armor)

kallardian padded (not sure of material) (mage armor)

    khurite splinted horned scale

khurite splinted plate scale (possibly best armor set)

    tindremic plate plate scale

    draconis plate steel

    dracoins plate ironbone

    dracoins plate bron

    dracoins plate tungsteel

    draconis plate cronite

of course with amror types you can mix and match them since each piece is equipable seperatly.

killing a humanoid mob for example a risar will drop a combination of the following, a carcass representing its corpse which can be butchered for meat skin bone etc, small heal  potions from 0 to 6, metals representing the cratures weapon from pigiron, bron, grain steel, maalite, nyx and steel depending on the risar type. also leather either fullgrain or boiled leather representing the risars armor. risars also drop a risar head and also a risar ear, risar ears and heads are traded in for various items at a particular vendor (who has been temp removed from game) some risars also drop keys, rust and iron keys which open chests, inside these chests you can find large quantities of resource.

there are 2 types of mmo, imitators and innovaters.

Yes, try the trial before you buy.  That's obvious.

There is very limited dynamic loot.  If you want dynamic loot kill zombies or triberats or any humanoid mob.  They will drop a variety of random items.  However they won't drop "blue" or "purple" items.

There are millions of weapon and armor combinations and thousands of viable ones.  Wood is used instead of metal for training weapons.  Some mats make faster weapons, or weapons that do more damage.  The key to find out what works best is experimentation, or just ask your guildies.

There's dozens and dozens of places of interest to explore.  You will never get a tooltip or a popup saying you found a place of interest.  You will have to decide what places interest you.  This is a sandbox afterall.

Never trust a screenshot or a youtube video without a version stamp!

Thanks everyone for your tips and help.

I look forward to experimenting with the system and exploring the world. The world looks beautiful, and those screenshots linked makes me excited to get into the game. I have no delusions that there won't be a learning curb and a lot of trial and error. In fact, that's what I miss about games. If I already have mastered the game mechanics and systems before entering the game, I won't last in the game more than a few days. That's why I'm fed up with the dime a dozen games that's been released since WoW.

    Again, thanks for your help.

No one wants blue or purple weapons..  But if you are expecting an Orc that is clearly wearing weapons and armor to drop it.  That will not happen they drop some crafting materials and potions.

There are millions of weapon and armor combinations and thousands of viable ones.  Wood is used instead of metal for training weapons.  Some mats make faster weapons, or weapons that do more damage.  The key to find out what works best is experimentation, or just ask your guildies.

There are not 1,000s  of pvp viable weapons.   Now if you say 1000s to kill animals then I would agree hell I could kill a wisent with a wooden dagger with how stupid the AI is.

See now read between the lines.  You will have to roll play the spot of interest is of interest you can not interact with it or do anything with it.   So if you are into rollplaying that a hill over looking a ruin is cool and of interest then you are fine.  There are many place in Nave to look at (shrines, ruins, Farmhouses, etc, etc,  But they are only graphics nothing to do.  Roleplay it is of interest :)  But as a dynamic sandbox game with tools to interact with said POI there are none.  If only we all could rollplay the game better than it is, the pop would not be so low,

always good to se AQ representing  :D

but serisouly, forget about Ohgmium or even Cronite weapons. i'v been playing for 10+ months and still can't really find anyone able to craft them or willing to sell them if they have them. even if you want to buy them they cost a fortune. even tungsteel (at arround 30/40 gold a sword) is quite expencive if you pvp a lot.

also tindremic messing, and cronite for armor is almost impossible to find, and if you do it will cost you a fortune. the heaviest armor are usually made of steel and will run you anywere from 50 to 70 gold a set.

AQ is pretty much the only guild able to provide any of those metals( Oghmium, Cronite) in usable quantities and they don't much like to share.

  • deathshrouddeathshroud Member Posts: 1,366

i think its 500gold per 1k cronite, not to expensive and i know people who sell it ;)

    2-3 gold per cuprum sword

    8 gold per steel sword

    35 gold per tungsteel sword

    75 gold per cronite sword

    150 gold per oghmium sword

i personally started out withj ust steel swords and from killing people i now have 4 oghmium swords around 3 cronite swords and a few tungsteel swords lying around.

And that is as false as it can get. One main aspect MO lacks for me is that it got absolutely zero rewards for explorations except for some static bosses. There are absolutely no hidden chests, secrets to explore, rare materials to find, clues or epic quests, almost no rare mobs, etc.

If anyone can, Id like very much to be proven wrong, with links and proof. But that was the state of exploration couple of months ago, and I doubt anything changed since Ive been monitoring game well.

  • deathshrouddeathshroud Member Posts: 1,366

there are chests to find, rare ore to find and better mob locations for thsoe willing to explore, also alot of pickables are found in hard to rwach locations even soem i have yet to discover, of course if you have been palying for 6 months chances are you will know were everything is.

I think exploration is it's own reward. I've traveled all across the country and to several other countries in my life and I found it rewarding seeing the different terrain, geography, and cities, towns, and villages.

  • deathshrouddeathshroud Member Posts: 1,366

well in mo exploration is certainly rewarding for new players, finding new resource to gather/ harvest a new route throguh the terrain that feels quicker or finding a mob you havent killed before is both interesting and rewarding also discovering new towns you havent visited or meeting new palyers. sicne there isnt a map, unless you search for a thrid party one exploration really is improtant.

This.  Sometimes it sounds like some people need epic glowing loot and some 'achievement' unlock splashed across their screen to consider something worth their time.  MO doesn't offer as much in the way of artificial pats-on-the-back, but it does not make the game less rewarding.
