I have done what I swore never to do! I have downloaded the horizons client and intend to give it a full and complete 7day trials to win me over.
Patching process has begun and it looks like it might take a while. Ill report back later.

And do spend some time getting the settings just right and reboot it after you think you have it tweaked.
Once the patching and scan are done, I find the game shuts down and starts up very fast. That first scan was a bear though 15 mins for the scan and 15 mins to patch. Still not as long as WoW took hehe
...Im thinking of making a dragon.. I read they added a new dragon tutorial and I might as well check it out.

lol I did /who shadrak last night just to see if you were on. Anyways I was checking my settings last night to see why I have no lag and other poeple do. When you set the game up I recommend Character textures on "high"--Highest will lag anyone, Ground textures on high too but enable Ground level of detail and put the slider to about 20 % this way the ground around you will be high quality but far away it wont be so high so less lag.
Also put max view distance to 50% or under, you just don't need to see things farther than that. 50% seems to be far over a kilometre which is plenty and doesnt affect the gameplay at all.
Camera options- this is the real doozy that can cause lag. Mouse smoothing needs to be set just right and will be different for you depending on your mouse. The major one is in third person, you want to set "camera follow tension" to max tightness. You will notice the difference right after you hit "apply" play with it a bit and put it all the way tight. This makes the camera stop when you stop and cuts down a ton of lag especially if you dont have 2 gigs of ram.
After you get it just right, the game ROCKS. Last night I dinged level 12 so I was off to fight some Malachite golems. They just look too kewl, all shiny and gemmy looking hehe awesome graphics on them
