What percentage of mmorpg players have never been to this site?

eyceleycel Member Posts: 1,334

Simple question, to the point, what is everyones opinion on the percentage of mmorpg players that have never used mmorpg.com keeping in mind this is an english website so only counting english speaking players?  If I was to guess it would be somewhere between 5-35%.

Also what in those percentages relate to the top mmos; wow,aion,rift,eve,everquest,lotro,etc...if you want but dont answer it if you dont like the second question.

Of all the MMORPG players, 90% haven't even heard of this site, 9% have not registered to the forums and from that 1% that have registered, 0.1% have a post count above 10.

MMORPG.com forums also have an above average concentration of sandbox and old-school MMO players and inde game fans.

    There, that is my guesstimation.

Half of WoW's playerbase doesn't even know what an MMO is.

You should teach them or write a book on 'what MMO really is'.

99% of people who think they know what MMO is, do not agree with each other.

    Another guesstimation on the house.

It's gotta be over 99%.  The overwhelming majority of players don't bother with forums or fansites.  (Much like how the overwhelming majority doesn't care whether someone out there says they're "not playing an MMORPG", or insists they "aren't really having fun")

     +1

But alot of the regulars that post on this site sure do take themselves seriously.

    Well, I asked this afternoon...

My primary guild has about 50 people and we have been playing together since the early UO days. Of the 20 or so people that were online, two of us have been to MMORPG.com and only one (me) has a forum account. I asked why and the most common response [paraphrased] was, "game forums are for losers".

Yeah, if the number of players that have visited this site was any higher than a quarter of a percentage point I would be shocked.

  • Gabby-airGabby-air Member UncommonPosts: 3,440

From personal experience a very low number of people regularly visit even their game's own official forum, maybe 20% at max and people that follow MMOs in general perhaps just come to this site for the news and never visit the forums. I know I didn't join the forums years after I had been visiting the site.

So if I had to guess out of the entire MMO population, I would say less than 5% of the people have ever visited the site.

Amazing how a topic about MMO's in general and how many people know about this website... Gets trolled by a WoW hate thread.

Wish mods would moderate the WoW hate trolling like they do a lot of other topics!

Anyway, you won't find much useful information related to any exact game here so players generally look to sites that focus on content for their game of choice.

Pretty sure majority on this site are lost souls in search of something new!

well i remember when this site got to 1 million, I made a topic about it and everyone was just like, meh...so funny.  Still, thats a good deal of mmo players considering how games have done in the past 5 years.

I would say the vast majority of players don't visit this site. The only reason I ever came across it was because I was searching for a different game and typed MMORPG into yahoo. I'm sure many alot of people probably find it in the same way.

Hating WoW is cool, and mods want to be cool.

Anyway, I brought some friend in to WoW from Rift, just about a month after rift release, and after he lvled 2 characters and played a lot with me he said the game doesn't feel like an MMO. He played DAoC and War and some other free to plays, for something like 9 years now, and he simply says WoW does not have MMO feeling. And there are a lot of ppl that only know WoW as the only MMORPG

From my personal point of view, most of the intricate social elements of MMORPGs have been set aside in favor of streamlined action and combat. The minority of players who prefer a more social experience can now find that here. I can't stand Facebook games, and do not use Facebook for meeting others. However, I can name about 10 regular posters on here that I enjoy reading and have built some form of repoir with over the past couple years. My hope is that perhaps I will find some of them in the upcoming games that may encourage some of the social dynamics that have been recently overlooked.

I would say that 20% of current mmorpg players have been to this site at least one time in their entire life.

I would also say that about 1% or less of current mmorpg players have ever posted on this site.

(Hope external links are ok? I know some sites hate on it)

Anyway, what's my point? People need to create a new word or phrase to describe the game they want to play. MMO and MMORPG has already been taken.

World of Warcraft is 100% an MMORPG

    Rift is 100% an MMORPG

    Everquest is 100% an MMORPG

EvE (Heck.. don't even know what it stands for if anything) is 100% an MMORPG

Hello Kity Online is most likely 100% a MMORPG

We need a digital FIST to bash some sense into people sometimes. You hate how? Fine. It's still an MMO. You hate EvE? Fine. It's still an MMO. You LOVE GW2? Great. Still supposed to be an MMO.

  • TazlorTazlor Member UncommonPosts: 864

How would any of us know this? All we can do is guess, and my guess would be the majority of mmo players have never been to this site.

Did you know that 95.1% of all statistics are made up on the spot?

Visiting game forums/sites is a niche market, maybe even smaller than the sandbox MMO one, so you could probably safely say 95% of MMO players have never been to this site.
