hi i just wanted to know a lil about this game..people are saying there are going to be 19 worlds you can goto..well is this more like just a diff. "zone / area" or are you so called droped into another planet with many other "zones / area" ?
like this ..
1. planet 1-19 ..each planet has a bunch of zones
or
2. planet 1-19 ..is basicly only 1 zone / territory
Comments
17, not 19, planet zones. Each planet is a zone unto itself.
the old republic site has 17 planets in its holonet, i assume there also 2 starter zone or something. That makes 19
Youtube a video or two. Some areas (starting zones) are smaller while zones like Hoth are huge.
There was an interview that explained the actual square mile area of the gamemap but I can't find it to save my life.
17 confirmed. That makes 17.

The starter zones are counted in the holonet. The reason people are saying 19 now is that James Ohlen made a mistake and said 19 at comic-con, it was later corrected.
Found the quote:
"James Ohlen: We do have some pretty huge worlds. Alderaan is the equivalent of 7 or 8 of World of Warcraft zones. It is just huge. The world is gigantic and it takes so long to run from one end to the other. Of course you have speeder bikes and landspeeders that you can get across the world a lot faster."

ok ...are these zones big? 17 zones for an mmo seems to be small imo ...when i mean zones i mean..like..hmm its hard to explain lol
when you look at a map ..theres a bunch of diff territorys like states..so one world is only 1 zone or a buch of territorys wraped into one?
like 1 world = ?how many diff territorys? just 1?
yea i heard that but that could also just be because theres mountians and inviz walls you cant go around lol..you ca still be in a small area and take a long time to get there
but 7-8 zones dont sound bad for 17 planets..seems like alot of content...but will you out lvl your self in this game too quickly?
like spend time on planets 1-3 and your at lvl cap and miss out on tons of other zones..or maybe are some planets just like Q'ing up for battlegrounds..in other words just calling stuff a planet and its just an empty shell of one thing to do there
Hi there.
I will try and answer youre questions to the best of my knowledge.
Its 17 Planets for launch, not 19. ( I believe a bioware dev. mispoke the number at a convention of sorts, in a Q&A. )
Those 17 planets will be a mix of major size - like Dromund Kaas & Coruscant the "capitol" planets for each side & minor sized like Tython & Ord Mantell etc the origin planets were you begin youre adventerous story.
if said planets are divided into zones of sorts im not entirely sure, but i do know youll get access to youre very own spaceship, in wich you travel to other planets.
Hope that clarifies it a little for you.
Read the post above yours, it has info on the enormous size of some of the planets.
Not sure how the planets are broken down but I believe they have said some of the planets would take hours to explore.
The range of size is quite wide. The starter planets for instance are small, at least in comparison to the other planets, but the larger planets have been described as being about the size of 6 or 7 WoW sized zones. So yeah, some are very large.
17 worlds or zones at launch seem small for a MMO? wow. I wish more MMOS released with that many areas to explore. Also read the post above you to get an idea about size of world.
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D
from what ive seen so far from videos.
a couple planets will be made of multiple zones.
1 planet = 6-7 zones
i believe their maybe a couple of planets following said formula above; Hoth and Tatoonie being prime examples, a couple maybes would be alderann, corellia, corusant, dromund kass and nar shadda.
then the smaller planets (3-4?) with much fewer zones per se would be the origin worlds Tyhon, korriban, ord mantell, and hutta
As for the rest of the planets i am completely unsure, to me they are unknowns with a hunch being they could be nothing more than giant events housed only for certain flash points, story arcs and one of the planets being for the eternity vault, again i dont know to give you a firm answer about the rest of the planets. ( Balmorra, Taris, Belsalvis, Voss) they could be planets with zones or they could very well be planets with 1 zone each.
Two other bizzare unknowns would be (Llum and Quesh), people keep saying 1 or both of those planets are to be pvp worlds, yet im still waiting to see a hint of open world pvp myself, let alone large scale pvp in swtor, soo *shrug*
thats 17 planets btw. the 19 of planets seems to be conflicted between developers to say if its real or not, im sure some one is being tortured inside biowares building for having to mispoke.
So 17 planets * 6.5 wow zones = 80 wow zones.
That's quite big.
An honest review of SW:TOR 6/10 (Danny Wojcicki)
i guess thats about average rift was released 14 ..but was saying..are some of those planets just empty shells with nothing to do except "that one thing" like just for a instanced pvp or small raid..i guess we will soon see..7-8 per planet seems quite beefy..unless most of the mobs lvl range is the same on some planets ..maybe the lvl cap should be 100 lol if im understanding right what some people are saying..1 planet = 7-8 zones ..total zones with 17 planets is like 130ish diff zones
this explained alot thx 4 info! and makes more sence
mainly have to go off of dev quotes at this time. there have been some vids to give an idea of their size though

Next question from a reader is will I be ushered along a storyline and have very little room to sway or can I sway off and go in a different direction?
James: Our game is very open. We’ve developed several worlds, and each of those worlds is wide open, huge worlds with many square kilometers and you’re able to explore those worlds any way you want, just like your standard MMOG.

First off, once your character leaves their Origin World, other planets tend to be significantly larger in terms of land mass than those you might find in other MMOs – sometimes five or six times as large. While this is really cool for creating canonically expansive worlds in the Star Wars™ universe like Hoth or Tatooine, it also creates interesting design considerations.
hope some of this helps

I arrived on Coruscant as a level 7, which is about three levels lower than expected for Coruscant, but again I skipped every single side quest. The very first thing I did, since I was the first person to get to ride on a speeder bike from the press back at E3, was try to continue that legacy by hopping onto a Taxi! I took the Taxi from a station located in front of the Senate Building. From there I went down into the propaganda central of Coruscant, where the Justicars held power (there were several other locations I could have gone to instead). This was a “They are on to something here” moment, because the Taxi ride into that part of Coruscant gave me similar feelings I had during the first moments of Half Life 2 and Bioshock, seeing all the propaganda posters on the wall in your way in really sets the tone, it was only missing some musical ques and it would have been dead on. It was here that I dared to get through the first blockade into the heart of the Justicar’s territory. This was a bad mistake, I finally died the first time here, and even after getting some assistance and being pumped up to level thirteen to be more on an even playing field with them, they still took me out. Rest assured the next time I come across them, they will not be so lucky.
Time was running out on our big play session, so I decided to make the most of it... by flying back to the Senate Building and just playing around. It was revealed to me by Daniel Erickson, that early on they made the choice to build everything in real scale. This means no walking into a small shack where the inside of it is larger than could actually fit into that building and vise versa. It was inside the massive Senate building that I danced ontop of a senator (who shares the same race as Yoda), pranced around the hallways, and enjoyed an overall sense of awe at the amazing and beautiful interior hall ways and rooms. Everything really felt hand crafted, and unique inside. I can not emphasis just how massive this building was, and the overwhelming sense of “This is what being able to actually go into an entire building in a game feels like, without being pinned down and locked off to one tiny room” was great. You will just have to see and feel it for yourself. After strolling by some temporary PvP vendors, my time was coming to an end. There I was, looking off the side of the massive structure I was standing on, watching the cars fly around. I knew what had to be done. “Times up!” was heard, and there was no going back... my life as a Jedi Consular was over for the day. I made the faithful leap down to my characters death off of the cliff falling hundreds of stories, and to the bottom of Coruscant.

This was actually 7-8 WoW zones, a dev stated Alderaan to be like that.
To comment on that, WoW vanilla had like 40-45 open world zones.
As for the other normal planets, they were said to be at least 4 times as large as the largest of the Origin Planets. So far I could determine that the Origin Planets are 1-2 medium WoW zones large. From what is known and seen so far, it looks like SWTOR planets vary in worldsize to the explorable landmass equivalent of 6-9 WoW zones, but more accurate info is needed to have more detailed estimation.
