SWTOR going in the right direction

BelgaraathBelgaraath Member UncommonPosts: 3,205

The below article is an example of some of the more positive feedback out of the event. Don't worry about these others threads crying about what they wish the game was. For what Bioware has stated from the beginning will be, I'm very optimistic we will get what most of us outside of these forums want. Some of the things in the article mirror the opinion of so many others who got to play the game at previous events on older builds.

"The place was packed today. When I got to the SWTOR booth they were actually in the process of extending the line. I was prepared this time. I brought a gallon of Gatorade, a Monster and a Star Wars Book. I’m reading the Darth Bane Duology again."

Definitely a sign that people didn't bother showing up because the game is going in the wrong direction, right? lol

The detail was just amazing. It really felt like I was watching a movie. Everything was smooth and the level of detail to the actual Warzone was incredible.

Definitely a sign that the graphics are horrible, right?

Trolls, your loosing the battle here, but I'm sure you can find another obscure article from an MMO nooob to support your opinions.

Pay them no mind, I just know I will be playing SW:Tor and if people don't like game....DONT PLAY, or post on the SW:Tor forums for that matter, People or trolls feel the need to try to force people into thinking like they do, as if they are going to get people from playing lol, they are just upset that there game of choice might be effected by the success of games like SW:Tor and feel the need to try and discourage SW:Tor fans from playing the game.

a message to the trolls: .. If you don't like or agree with the direction of a game just don't buy it or post on there forums, you dont see me going over to the (exeample) EvE forums, or GW2 trying to spead hate, if someone enjoys something let them be, pay attention to your own business and let the people here in the SW:Tor forums enjoy the hype.

Ummm.....the Bane Books are a TRILOGY.

Edit: and I agree....the game IS going in the right direction.

ToR is shaping up to be one pleasant surprise after another. I came in expecting a polished themepark with the traditional dungeon, raid, battleground gear centric mmo. And I was ok with that. I knew theyd have an awesome storyline bioware style. I was happy with that. Then they added companions, space missions, housing, crew skills, huttball, and a holocron exploration system... that was so much more than I expected and next week we can look forward to even more reveals including world pvp details.

Im really looking forward to playing this.

edit: oh yeah and 17 planets at launch... so good!

One thing I noticed and this could be because it is the demo. There were no collectable items anywhere really. Like artifacts like you see in Rift or EQ

The vid I saw with Total Biscuit looked on the rails pretty heavily os he did no walk around or talk to the NPC's. How much back story is there? Like random NPC's with different stories to see? Does it have that?

The datacron system system is all about that stuff. From lore about locations, bestiaries, and discovering datacrons in hard to find/reach places hidden all over the planets. They give stat bonuses as well.

Almost all the "Walkthrough" vids we have seen so far have been in the starter areas, including the one from Totalbiscuit.  Generally not a whole lot of collectable stuff in those areas.  Though BioWare could easily decide to change that as well.

My personal opinion though is that EVERY game out there, MMO or SPG, is a mix of some things I like and some I do not like.  The trick is in trying to find a game that has enough things I like that it smoothed over the parts I don't like.  In the case of SWTOR, about the only thing I do not like is some of the anima style armor, while I am neutral on a few others, and love the rest of the other features in the game.  Especailly the new twist on crafting.

Offcourse SW:TOR is going intoo the right direction, the direction of a highly pollished Bioware game. If you like stories and good storytelling, then you must love these Bioware games. On top of that it uses a very lot of well proven MMO mechanics so they can't go wrong there either.

There is one thing this game will not be, it won't be the greatest innovating MMO on the market, but who cares as long as the game is one of the most immersive them park MMO's and you like theme park MMO's you will love this game outright.... who doesn't want to play the leadrole in his very own Star Wars movie?

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

I agree to an extent, but thats why I usually play multiple games at once. For my main MMO fix with a strong RPG build in, Ill play this game. If Guild Wars 2 lives up to its greater than Warhammer + Aion combined hype, Ill play that while I wait for my friends in SWTOR, not to mention for the single player sandbox experience...Ill be playing Skyrim if I can ever finish Oblivion (which Im loving :-) ). I don't need anymore than that for the next 1 1/2 years minimum...nor do I have the time lol.

I've said that many times as have others but it isn't going to matter. The trolls aren't really here to convince others to not play the game. No one is THAT delusional. They're just here to be trolls because they have no life outside of gaming and right now there isn't one reaches their high and mighty standards.

My favorite criticism is "You're only playing it because you're a fan of Star Wars." I've never played Bounty Hunter, Episode 1, any of the games based on the Clone Wars,Republic Commando, Force Unleashed 2, the Jedi Knight series, KOTOR 2,  etc. etc. If this game was going to be SWG 2, I wouldn't touch it with a twenty foot pole. That alone told me that this game was going in the right direction.

My initial worries about the graphics have changed and the only thing I don't like about it are the weapons restrictions. It was done probably because of the fear of balance issues, but then again I don't think equal balance CAN be achieved in a game.

    Currently Playing: World of Warcraft

we need more tinfoils also over here? :)

jokes asides..forums r nice 'cause you can post lot of stuff when u've got nothing better to do, still i prefer criticizing or promoting a game once i've managed to put my hands on it...yes alphas and betas count as "my hands on it" imo
