Bro, we're on an internet forum. Get a handle of my login name
The F2P vs P2P threads are all over the place, esp. in "The Pub" section. One of the things I dislike about F2P is that it's deceptive. It's "Free" to play alright, but there's little costs they spread out here and there. The game is also designed to nudge you to buy those convenience items in the Cash / Item Shop. Not at first, but once you've put time into developing your character, it becomes that much more apparent. They spread out little costs here and there.
You want to buy access to a region? Fine. $$$
Man, I'm running out of health & mana potions. Never had this problem before but it's getting bad now. I'll get some, just a few of both. $$$
Some F2P titles will sell potions to buff your stats significantly. I've seen some increase HP by 50-75% for 3 hours. You don't need it right away, but later on, game design will nudge you to glance at those items. $$$
Some F2P titles will outright sell gear. Really nice stuff, too. $$$
I know this sh*t because I myself have fallen for it in a F2P title. You get these little purchases here and there and then next thing you know, you spent a boatload of money. Far more than I did paying a sub and buying a brand new expansion pack with a different game. I promised to myself to never to be a sucker again and stay away from titles using this model of business.
That's the deceptive nature of F2P.
Lastly: YOU want to throw up a thread proclaiming your love of Turbine's F2P model (probably an employee) like it's an ad, and expect no dissent? On the internet? Really?
Edit to add: A game with P2P + Cash/Item Shop isn't a true P2P game. IMO, it adopts the worst aspects of both P2P and P2Win / F2P to fleece players. Cryptic's STO is the worst I've seen.
Don't you think most folks know this by now, though? I honestly don't need folks telling me, "dude, that game isn't REALLY f2p."
It's just like people proclaiming that F2P is in fact free, while moaning about having to fork over money in a P2P or even B2P plan.

You do realize of course that with a Turbine subscription you get a number of points to spend however you wish every month?
Yeah and only 15 months worth of subscriber points to have full amount of stat tomes on ONE character providing you dont spend on anything else. Then with RoI stat cap is removed so you can expect way more stat tomes, hmm with level increase and stat ca removed maybe up to +100? Then there are store-only relics which also are more than 1 months of subscriber points per one relic ,and RoI mean new relics and new store-only relics...
Not to mention that we talking about subscriber points so points you get for paying for subscription , then RoI i paid subscription , hardly a "free" game.
You tell you can grind points in game. Well good luck with grinding points to pay for few quest packs , traits unlocks , crafting unlocks ,3 expansions unlock and stat tomes and store-relics unlock. Think that would be anything between 15-20 thousands of TP. You get 5-10 TP for doing one normal deed like slayer or exploration deed. Doing one deed can take hours in mid-late game, so lol
That's how the F2P system works. As you progress, there's increasingly larger curves are thrown at the player. Then they'll have stuff like XP potions or consumeables to temporarily grant you access to a higher reward zone (XP, gold, loot).
Great example is a sharp increase in XPs required to level. Before, you were going at an acceptable, comparable rate of advance. Then usually at the mid-levels, the XP reqs get much, MUCH higher, and progression drops drastically. But if you spend money to get an XP bonus potion that lasts 3 hours, it helps. Just as long as you keep buying and using these potions. You CAN progress without the potions, but it'll be as slow as a snail travelling in the middle of the Sahara Desert.

None of that changes the fact that you paid a comparable cost to a p2p game in a f2p game and you still don't have the entire game. I can choose to pay the same as you, and get the whole game.
Hi brick wall.... nice to see your post again. You see, you are wrong in the thought that you might actually get the entire game content buy paying a monthly sub because as we all know as players some players never get to see end game raid content, some players never finish any serious part of the game and pay much much more then if they had a choice of which zones in the game they wished to play to reach the end game level.
Secondly, yes you could unlock the game with a sub only but as i pointed out and you must've missed twice somehow, the amount i paid was NOT necessary in order to complete the achievement of the highest level, the content to get me there, or the end game requirements for dps. SO, and maybe you will read it this time, if you spent as much as me on a sub for this game as i spent then you would essentially be paying for 17 months of game time and locked into a sub only contract to play.
I don't have to sub to go on the game now and do the things i like to do and i can bounce between games to do what i want when i want by having a no sub gameplay, you wouldn't be able to do that. Not to mention if you took 17 months of paid time to reach max level and finish Vol III epic questline you would definitely be considered a casual player and would benefit more from playing F2P then paying for all that time you never used.
Look forward to your next post where you haven't read what i've said
I don't miss what you say. I just realize it doesn't mean what you think it means. You beleive your justifications and rationalizations changes the meanings of certain things, but they don't. What you wish to ignore or de-emphasize is that over the course of a year you paid a comparable amount of money as a sub based game for a 'free-to-play' game and in the end, didn't have access to all that the game offered.
So then explain to me that I have enjoyed exactly the same benefits of the OP without spending any money (except the lifteime when game launched)? I paid about 2 year sub up front and got my money worths out of it, now even Crytpic pays me to play their game with the free stipends I get each month.
But next to that lets see the maths again: you as a P2P spend $170 that equals 17 months access with $10/month. But after that 17 months you don't have anything left. You can't play the game anymore. Now the OP can play for a lot longer then 17 months with all the endgame content ulocked to him without spending anything, where as you will have to dump another $10 to gain access for each additional month.
