LucasArts Working On An Open-World RPG

firefly2003firefly2003 Member UncommonPosts: 2,527

Could LucasArts finally be delivering the single-player sequel to the Knights of the Old Republic so many Star Wars fans have been clamoring for?

The two Knights of the Old Republic games left some narrative threads dangling and many questions unanswered. Most importantly, what was the unknown threat that Revan set out to face in the Outer Rim after defeating Darth Malak and destroying the Star Forge?

LucasArts creative director Clint Hocking, whom you may remember from such Ubisoft titles as Splinter Cell and Far Cry 2, recently tweeted that the company is hiring a gameplay engineer for an "open-world RPG." Could this be the long anticipated KOTOR revival?

We sure hope so, but for all we know it could be a new IP, the continuation of Jet Brody's totally radical franchise Fracture, or even a RTX Red Rock revival starring EZ Wheeler, "the true hero for the next generation." Here's to hoping we get a Fallout-style KOTOR.

Considering we have TOR coming and it's a Bioware game. No.

You also do know that Lucas Arts also have IP other than Star Wars right? Monkey Island comes to mind.

List of all Lucas art games I have enjoyed:

    1. "Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders"

    2. "Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge".

That is all. So I am somewhat sceptical of them doing a KOTOR game on their own.

Oh god I hope so, I would love to have a KOTOR single player game again to play instead of having to play the MMO to get that. But I really doubt they will do that, it would be competition for fans that like KOTRO for TOR. Although I will keep my fingers crossed for a new KOTOR single player game!

What no X-wing, TIE Fighter, or Dark Forces :( ah I miss the good old days of good Star Wars games.

Myself, would like to see Battlefront III, Imperial Commando, and a revival of the X-Wing Vs Tie Fighter games tbh....

Seems like some people are jumping the gun and letting their imaginations run wild over such little information.

Don't hold your breath about Lucasarts.  They're a bunch of incompetent fools.  Definitely not like the Lucasarts from the 90s.  There was a time when you saw a game wrapped up in Lucasarts' highly recognizable box design, and gave it a shot because they produced many great titles.

Half-baked titles come to my mind when Lucasarts games are mentioned these days.

Its really a big relief to see people acknowledging how bad LucasArts is now and how far they've fallen since the 1990s....

Whatever the game is, I expect it to be either a big disappointment or something I'm just plain not intersted in playing.

That said.. an Open World "RPG"?

I'm going to root for an Indiana Jones game.... (yeah right, like that'll happen.)

Imperial Commando was such a good game.  Best AI for a squad based shooter I've ever seen.

Now if they could do a Privateer-style open Star Wars game.  That'd be something I'd spend my money on.

I haven't played a good space combat sim in awhile.  I miss them.

I think I will wait until I get more information before I jump to any conclusions or let myself get excited.

Well, if they're planning on making an MMO from one of their past IPs, of which there are quite a few good ones, the #1 pick for me would be Full Throttle.  To this day, that was one of the best adventure games I ever played, and the setting was fantastic.  I really like the biker scene, though I personally never got into it.

On a side note, if anyone else likes bikers, then you gotta check out the TV Show Sons of Anarchy ~ Season 4 starts next month!

Please tell me that you've never played Grim Fandango... seriously, one of the best games of all time.

If they did an open world, Privateer type of Star Wars game, that'd be awesome on so many different levels.

Space combat sim games have been practically extinct for years now.  Nothing like the glory days of the X-Wing series and Freespace 1 and 2 (FS2 was outstanding).
