Any MMO savy type know what this means?

ok so random thread on the Rift forums and this dev commented. What does the statement in red actually mean?

""We've added headcount since launching and every day we work to make the game better. That's a lot of subscription money getting re-invested right back into the game.""

It sounds like he's saying the number of players has increased (or is steadily increasing) since launch.

Actually rereading it, it sounds like saying they've hired more developers.  Yes, that's definitely what he's saying imho.

"Gamers will no longer buy the argument that every MMO requires a subscription fee to offset server and bandwidth costs. It's not true – you know it, and they know it." -Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet, 2007

So that is just new people hired and not some hidden mmo industry term. Brian Morrin just randomly comments. I play Rift and I am not too sure who he is. He sometimea randomly pops into a Rift thread and just reveals like random information I am sure he is not supposed too lol

I thought it meant like for every 1 subscriber paying 15$ like 10$ goes back into the game or something.

Regardless of why he is saying this, take pride in knowing the game you enjoy is profiting enough to realize their success warrants more developers being brought on to the team. You don't hire developers if you are doing poorly. You fire them. Hiring usually means SOME sort of success.

"Headcount" is a term suits use to talk about hired help.  Despite Trion's near flawless launch, they did have one issue they were not prepared for.  The game was vastly more popular at launch, than they predicted.  Their CS team and website management were over-run.  They needed to hire more people.  I also remember in March they talked about moving people into the rift development (actual rifts, not the game itself.)  They talked about having two teams working on the slivers and a third working on the new one.  That's about the information I know on the staff side.  Considering the amount of content they are releasing, I would say they are holding steady at keeping up with the flow now.

What Rift needs is another wow factor.  I actually think they should of held this celebration off until 1.5 drops, so returning players could get a taste of that.   But we are talking about a specific date, so I guess their hands are tied on that.  Hopefully, they will do something similar for 1.5 release.

What I would keep my attention to is what this "special gift" is suppose to be at the end of the celebration event.

Regardless, all of this stuff is possible due to the increase of "headcount."
