And let the complaining begin. When will players realise that in game shops are not going away and almost every MMO is going to implement it. Hell even Eve Online did it. It is a part and parcel of MMOS and like it or not but majority like to spend money on these virtual items.
Am i going to spend money in items shop? nope. No one is forcing me so i will continue to ignore it and enjoy the actual game. People who are against it should just stick to indie titles or quit MMORPGS all together because this business model is here to stay.
Good for you. I prefer to moan and complain. Later on when /if I won't be able to find interesting game for me with satysfying business model (pure P2P or B2P like GW ) then I will stop playing mmorpgs.
Until then I will brag, moan , complain and go against this trend. Why? Becasue I can and I want.
Let me know how that works out for you. It is like spitting at the moon.
I never told that I expect that my doing will change Funcom or any other action's haven't I? I don't expect it will.
I don't feel I need to be logical about my opinions or reactions to this particular matter of mmorpg business models.

Nice hobby not healthy at all, and i dont think many people will understand the underlying fun of being mad all day, but i guess you like it. Even to talk about those few bucks we need for our hobby (in comparison to most other activities you can do in your free time the price of mmo's is just lol. i get payed 3 months of sub in 1 HOUR of work time, i mean wtf.) is so embarrassing i cant find words tbh. you freeloaders bugger of, we get our hobby for less or more money - just as we decide as customers.
what you people dont understand is, that i LIKE giving money to developers of my prefered game. i get out hundreds of hours of fun for, well almost nothing. i'd pay far more tbh. i dumped my car tho, for example, as i won't give a penny to oil-firms anymore (at least not through that channel).
They want me to buy the game, pay a monthly fee and then add a cash-shop? WTF?!?
Nope sorry, but Funcom lost me right there. It's Cryptic's model all over again and it didn't work in CO or STO... or look at the hatred thrown at CCP for their Aurum-shop.
F*in greedy game-developers need to stop being greedy.
i think some of you are going to have to get over the whole "OMG it has an in game cash shop". because thats the way the market is going, it may be time for you to quit the genre.
to me (and mind you i have been playing since UO) it only irks me when a game sells NEEDED items on their cash store. fluff or even helping items (XP Buffs) is fine by me.
How upsetting is that I was so hyped for the game, but Item store and sub? Sorry but if want to get mugged I can do that on any street in my fair city. What is wrong with these greedy pricks.
I think it's too soon to tell. There are just too many ways to implement an in-game store to know in advance how 'prick'y they are.
Buy to play (ala GW2) with an in game item shop.....yes. I would have been okay with that. This model they are choosing is more like EQ2, WHICH, by the way, EQ2 did not HAVE at release. They began using that later. It works for EQ2 because the item shop truly does have FLUFF and you can get or make items that look good (for appearance gear) in the game without buying them. Other things they have besides just stuff for appearances are some potions, furniture, and in game housing. Nothing game changing.
So....for me....I played EQ2 for 7 years and just recently quit. And what I have to say about TSW trying this is......they should not try RELEASING a game with this model. I was really excited about the game.....now.....a bit less. I won't pre-order now. I'll have to wait and see what real people (not writers on game sites) are saying about it FIRST. This has left my decision to buy and play TSW....kind of up in the air. I'm not pleased by it. Releasing a game with this payment model just looks greedy and looks like their plans are to fleece the sheep. It's one thing doing this to your population after you have EARNED their loyalty....which is bad enough....but doing it BEFORE you have earned their loyalty and respect is just in bad taste.

You feel better when you go judge people on internet and look into your crystal ball to find reasons for their opinions? Makes your e-peen bigger?
I AM paying for games I like , I would have nothing against to pay f.e. 20$ or more per month for TSW if that would mean no Item shop.
So get a clue and stop beign so damn elitist and throwing accusations left and right.

Actually not true, the EQ2 shop has a lot of game changing stuff in it.
In fact, and I say this actually liking EQ2 as a game, it's quadrauple dip (cash shop+sub+box+expac) revenue model is pretty disgusting.
If there is a box and sub price, an in-store shop is an instant 'no play' for me.
I'll happily pay for non in-game services such as server transfers etc. but for in-game items, excuse me am I not already paying the wages of the guy designing those items with my sub?
Yeah. DDO is still the only one I know to get that balance right.
There is a P2P sub where you get point to buy store stuff, or you can go the F2P (or P4C as I like to call thier model: Pay for content) way. Both works fine. Its a matter of taste.
Any P2P model that does not include point to buy store only shizzel is no go for me. Yeah, I am looking at you CCP...
I didn't particularly find the balance right with DDO. Cosmetic things like armor skins were pretty expensive (in terms of store points), but they could only be used once, on one amror set, for only one character. And that's also for subscribers like myself. That's sad. And then there's the artificial scarcity of Mnemonic pots, which can really turn into a drag if you're a heavy casting class. Of course, there's always the cash shop to the rescue for those times that you're tapped out and are uncomfortable being carried to the next shrine.
Guild Wars has had the only cash shop that never made me feel like I was being ripped off. For instance, custom skins you purchased were yours forever, for every toon on your account, whenever you wanted them -- and that was without a subscription fee to bolster their profits.
DDO isn't as bad as they come, but there's no way I'd hold it up as a shining example of a good cash shop.
As for TSW, I'll do subcription only for a very good game or cash shop only for average to decent games, but I won't do both for the same game at the same time anymore. Someone tell me there won't also be a box fee on top of everything else.
I don't know what to think at this point. If they give you store currency every month for your sub and the store only has cosmetics, xp buffs, and health potions etc. I will be o.k. However I don't think this will be the case so I'll just have to sit back and see. As others have said, with this bit of news coming out I will wait until after release to sub.
+Game Designed around forcing you to buy things from the item-store
I'm not sure what this is.... unless you mean pay2win? Is it about inventory space perhaps? I know of no subscription based game with unlimited inventory... is it about leveling bonuses? Some ppl will always want to level faster no matter where you set the bar... I have a hard time imagining such a game tbh coz end of the day, if your game is not fun it wont have anyone subscribing much less buying from the store. But then again, my only experience with store games is Lotro.
Posts saying this will ruin the game, avoid at all costs etc are a bit extreme. Instead of gazing into crystal balls perhaps wait until the game is released and we know what the item shop will contain. Worst case it will have items of power and best case it will only be cosmetic items but right now none of us have a clue how it will be and making decisions on whether to buy based on what we don't know is just silly.
Some of us understand that it's complete bull to pay for a game, and a monthly subscription fee, and then not be able to access some of the in-game items without shelling out more cash. It's not about whether those items give an in-game advantage (though that would make it worse). It's about removing access to that art, clothing, choices, etc.
wow some people these days are willing to accept everything right?
If you are paying a monthly fee you already paid for the development of items so there are NO fluff/vanity/cosmetic items. You are paying a monthly fee plus a 50 $ for the game itself, that should really be enough.
Funcom just doesn't learn after screwing up with AoC and making it pay 2 win they are trying to do this hybrid crap from the start.
Yes, people should avoid such games at all costs showing the industry that this stuff ist not acceptable and they better decide if they want pay 2 win or a monthly fee, NOT both. Everquest 2 has this system yes and people quit over it, cause they are selling advantages such as xp potions, mounts on top of a monthly fee.
We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!
"Everything you're bitching about is wrong. People don't have the time to invest in corpse runs, impossible zones, or long winded quests. Sometimes, they just want to pop on and play." "Then maybe MMORPGs aren't for you."

How many times we have read posts like this? Eve Online? LOTRO? AOC? STO? it is like a deja vu. Showing industry? show them what? majority of players complaining here will but TSW first day it comes out. been there done that. Nothing has changed because to show industry their error you need thousand upon thousand players to stop buying games with ingame store. So good luck with your crusade.
Anyone who buys this game knowing this fact is just wasting their money. P2P + cashshop has never been and will never be a good idea. Funny that people will bash F2Ps with cash shops but hardly anyone complains about P2Ps with cashshops.
My own personal thought on matters like this is...
If I spend 50-60.00 on a game I either
A - pay no monthly fee but buy expansions
or
B - pay a monthly fee and expansions are just free additions
What I never liked about WoW was paying a monthly fee AND paying 30-60 bucks every single expansion that is ultimately one reason why I quit got sick of shelling out so much money to play a video game. (and not doin the whole mmo negative nancy stuff only making a point on monthly fee vs. none etc... )
So a lot will depend on things for TSW for me. My wife and I will absolutely buy and try TSW for sure but how long we stay will depend how they handle expansions etc...
- I have played Everquest, DAOC, Shadowbane, WoW, Aion, Rift, SW Galaxies, Planetside and Guild Wars (all expacs)
