I think some people seem to be under the impression that would be getting into beta when then counter hit zero. Its just a sign up for an additional 'chance' to get in at some point.
Theres currently a crazy ARG(alternate reality game) thread over at there forums here figuring out if the clock means anything that is on funcoms frontpage. I read all 35 pages, its so funny.
"The cables have been connected and infiltrating agents have met their doom. We are looking at maybe 90 or so minutes until the connection to the signup for the Secret War could be an option. Stand armed and ready."
Amazes me how much people do not read everything. This was not a start to the actual "beta" yet. It was going to start some fun things and such to do, and to build rep somehow and when you got to a certain point (possibly max whatever it is) you would end up being able to do the beta when it is ready.
Something along those lines, will involve Facebook to some degree, possibly other things as well.
I think some of what is going on is actually part of the whole thing, it is a secret war and all 3 factions are working towards control, chaos etc.... this would play into that very nicely.
- I have played Everquest, DAOC, Shadowbane, WoW, Aion, Rift, SW Galaxies, Planetside and Guild Wars (all expacs)

I've been reading through a few of the threads on the official forums for the past 10 minutes and it seems that there are quite a few over there who were under the wrong impression that theyll get a beta key when the timer hit zero too. Some of them have been refreshing all day long. Poor sods are going to have a heart attack when it's fixed and they find out it's just an extra sign up for a chance to get in at some point lol.

Yeah but you should atleast be able to sign up for beta
Also as I dont know much about funcom, It makes me think if they can mess up a web page clock and rego then what will the game be like. Honestly I think this is a policity stunt. But hey for people like me who does not know much about them(funcom) it makes you wonder
Well it's not painfully obvious, I mean, I thought that for about 15, got all excited, then looked around. This in my opnion is a publicity stunt, like Jannet's exposed niple with JT. They have a letter drafted, I just think they fully intended this at the start. Or in the event they realized late in the countdown their Email system wasn't powerful enough to do this, they were like "Well how can we delay them, be entertaining, and diffuse frustration." Either way it was well done, and if you didn't do the little research it took to figure out this is not a "Sign up to get in thing" then you either are going to get pissed off regardless of what they did, or didn't care that much anyway because you didn't do your research. That clock broken-faced is just telling me, hey, I smell something fishy and I'm not buying it. It's not cool what they did, but hey it's not like you ever were going to get into Beta for sure anyway. I'll be ok buying the game on launch.

I don't know about the delayed beta sign up, but the clock and the messages and such, those are in line with former ARG's. A couple of people on the official forums are already trying to figure out the puzzle and available info. I expect that there will be more sortlike ARG puzzles and reveiled hints in the progress to launch. From what I learnt from the former ARG's, they're damned hard to figure out, usually took a couple of weeks at least and that was with the whole TSW community trying to dabble in it.
From what I read, I expect the ARG puzzles and mysteries in the upcoming period of time to be more faction linked, since it's all about emphasizing the secret war and distinctions between the factions that the TSW devs want.

Funcom are so far up their own arse it's unbelievable. I think they are going to have a nasty shock when then realise the vast majority of the gaming community is not waiting for The Secret World to be released. That in this instance they are going to have to prove to the community they have produced something worthwhile and we are not taking their word for it without first hand experience. So when you say you are launching a beta - launch a beta, don't waste every bodies time.
"Why do people keep saying beta? I could've sworn this was just a chance to signup for an additional chance to get in.. not actual "play a beta" today?"
@Celusion goo & point finger to other place yesterday u was ingore all fact what i say & u was say i am frustrate & trow bulshit to dear "funcom" today is noo more beta is a ARG game get a frak out
quote u'r word: "It is just that -- a beta." post 66 wow is black or white, ooo noo is white or black fssss

I didn't know that gaming majority appointed you as their representative? would be nice if you guys stop speaking on behalf of everyone. Use 'I' more instead of 'WE'.
Moreover, this event is not supposed to be about beta. And they owe you nothing and will release beta when they feel like.

Yes perhaps a study in semantics is what 'we' should focus on. Can you decipher this for me please this sentence from the following article,
'Funcom and EA announced at Gamescom today that horror-fantasy MMO The Secret World will launch in April 2012. And for gamers that just can't wait that long, the beta will kick off on August 26 and registration will be open soon.'
Don't owe me anything? Actually they owe me a beta invite which I bought when I purchased a year sub + expansion to AOC.

I just hope they get it running before the hurricane gets here.
I read there latest news article thingy about the chance to get into beta by forming your own group thing, but what exatly are we waiting for?

well besides the forum, I dont know of anyother way to get into beta, and the newsletter sign up thing.
So well organised Funcom, announce a beta - have a lovely countdown clock - then fail to deliver. I see nothing has changed in Funcom land then.
>.> <.< O.o Shhh.... It could be a conspiracy.
Why do people keep saying beta? I could've sworn this was just a chance to signup for an additional chance to get in.. not actual "play a beta" today?
They also said you get a sectret wars expirience.
Not much of a expirience

Wanted to see if Failcom will manage to acutaly start this clock event on time .. and hey I WON a BET!
Some things never changes ... Failcom being one of them
So looks like the expience could be a letter.

Oh well
90 minutes or so until it's fixed, supposedly.

If any of you are waiting to sign up then you might as well forget it for the next 9 hours at least http://www.darkdemonscrygaia.com/showpost.php?p=539320&postcount=5
ya all it was I thought was just the application process, why do people seem to think its more then that?
