Gotta give it to the guy, created the ipod solely from an idea. Nevertheless I always have hated apple products, they are way over-priced, and their ruthless business strategies disgust me.
We're all Geniuses. Most of us just don't know it.
As long as they get a replacement with a good vision, Apple will be fine. If they get someone who tries to be a clone of Steve Jobs, then the company is doomed.
Company doomed. They could not find the location of Apple HQ on a map without the help of Steve Jobs. Remember what happened the last time he resigned. The largest computer company fell to below 10% market share.

Technically, he's not leaving. He's just pulling a Bill Gates and staying on as chairman.

Well, let's hope they try to get a clone then. Apple products are crap.
What I love are the news articles I've been seeing in the last 24 hours giving him credit for inventing the Cell Phone, MP3 player and Tablet Computer.... Not just the Apple version of each but the whole product catagories. One was even from PC Magazine. LOL
Microsoft's biggest competition is itself. When you are looking at 90% market share in your primary market, thats no competition. Microsoft is more worried about the continued 30% market share of Windows XP then the next iteration of Mac OS.

I must have owned 4-5 mp3 players before ipods were ever announced to the world. When Ipods first came out, thats all they were.... neat looking mp3 players. What idea was he using? "Think I'll make an mp3 player with apples logo?"
This is like saying nike invented the shoe.
Smart phones were out long before Iphones appeared on the scene. Iphone is just a beefed up smart phone with apples logo on it.
I won't even touch the Ipad.
People give this guy way to much credit for taking items that already exsist on the market, just slapping the apple brand on it, and marketing it very well. The fact that he marketed it so well makes him a great CEO. He doesn't deserve the credit for inventing them.
One thing he does deserve a lot of credit for actually is a product that far surpasses all of those others: The Mac. If it weren't for him, PCs wouldn't have become so widely used in so little time. It's really the Mac that brought the world true PCs. That alone gives great props.
When Macs came out, I was like, ok cool. I want to open one up, just like I do with my PC, and slam in the memory I want, the GPU I want, or replace the CPU when I want to.
and Mac was like, uh no. You can't do that. You will only get Mac hardware for Macs. We don't allow anything else. No third party stuff, no clones. We own it, we'll tell you what you can do with it.
That was the last time I ever looked at a Mac product.
Steve Jobs has been a great entrepreneur, but I don't like the Mac idea of controlling their products. It just doesn't work for me. Even the Iphone was like, oh it's locked. You can only use the cell provider we say you can.
He has been on sporadic sick leave since January, at least now he will be under less stress but still be able to help the company out.
When it comes to apple products I am at odds. I love the iPod design, iphone, etc, but I hate some of the things they have one, and the restrictiveness on their laptop/desktop products.

Ahh the cube i remember it well. Never got one but its hard not to admit it looked nice. Shame thi it was spoilt by the overpeiced largly out of date hardware.

One can only hope the company making the most overrated products ever simply goes down into the abyss.
Well actually no, microsoft needs competition. I guess i should say: let's hope they actually make products worth the price.

Something that I found interesting.

Didnt he invent those?

I have to admit, the Ipad2 beat out Android and HP tabs because of the Software alone.
other than that, the Ipad sucks balls!!!
I traded in my Thrive for a Ipad2, just couldnt do it. Boy do I miss having a back button
