I hate all the childish fantasy classes; elves included.
Elf is a class like being white is a job.
Anyway, I agree, elves are getting kind of boring. If you're gonna make a fantasy game, there's nothing stopping you from going away from the medieval setting cliche and including more alien-looking races. Humans with pointy ears or a crazy skin color are boring. As silly as that sounds, why not Zoidberg? I'd totally play a lobster humanoid race.

I hate this responce, but I like it at the same time. how is that possible?
Shouldn't you be telling use that? :P
but really, what do OP want to see then? He offer a complain yet no idea of how to resolute it, might as well be a proper troll and use proper troll language =
You don't want elves, yet the most used race is humans, do you have a problem with human race as well? What about orcs? or trolls? or golems?
Elves is part of what made the fantasy genre as it is, just stop playing fantasy genre games?
How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW? As much WoW as a WoWhater would, if a WoWhater could hate WoW.
Elves as a race (lore, strengths, weaknesses), are not.
When the differences in a games races are statistically negligible and you're essentially just choosing what you look like, then I agree that developers should be as imaginative as possible. Do not, however, let this spoil your view of the potential of Elves and other classical fantasy races.
In a game where all races are equal, Elves are merely skinny humans with pointy ears; just like how dwarves are short fat humans with beards. In a game where your race actually means something (anything based on the dnd rule-set) then classical fantasy races can add a great deal of depth.
Harsh statistical trade-offs and universally understood background lore can make for interesting group dynamics and story, but easily suffer from power gaming. Classical races can be fun if you're willing to make a few concessions to game balance; but otherwise shouldn't be bothered with.

This is very true and sad.
Remember I first start playing EQ1, I read somewhere saying Ogres have more hps and so makes great tanks and melees, though they level much slower, ok I make an ogre, when I hit 50, I realise I spent a lot more time to make it there, but he is just as weak as any other race as a tank. Sad, the trivial starter difference in str or whatever is meaningless when we hit max, all races are the same.
Same for WoW, same for anything.
I remember my old RPG solo games, the wizardry series, the might and magic series. Some race has a lot more hp than another race, so much more they are really different, not just in name.
You are bored to with boring Elves. Game developers have no more imagination
Elves are one of my favourite races to pick in any rpg. The lore, the style, appeareance ,military training ,discipline alot of staff around elves lore makes them magical and sersly i would be dissapointed to play an rpgwuthout eves.
But there u go..Gw2 doesnt have elves as a race so some devs walk the path of differintation. But that isnt necessary good when u exclude such a ni ce race as elves are,or dwarfes etc
I've always liked the forest people. Somewhere there are elves, in gw2 there are sylvary, but they are nothing like elves. They have completely unique personality, almost childish, and look much more like plants.

I can do this for awhile,Gamers are selective, fine if you want to look WoW, Rifts, War,Lineage 2,Darkfall, EQ2, Vanguard, Lotro, Archage and Tera say they are only games ok.You are not force to play as elves,You are force not to play games with elves. Now if for some reason you can't live play classical fantasy setting which normal has elves Guild Wars 2 is your choice.
parrotpholk-Because we all know the miracle patch fairy shows up the night before release and sprinkles magic dust on the server to make it allllll better.
There isn't really that much left that you can do with character models without them looking too unfamiliar for the player to relate (a upright walking creature) or just turning the models into looking completely ridiculous. Elves and dwarves are really just the closest things to relate to human appearance.
I don't mind the elves, though it is always nice to see new ideas. (:

Nope.
Thats like getting bored of Human race as well... Oh wait,,, developers just been changing the name of the human race now days.
Its traditional or a Humanoid Animal

Hi-Rez Studios would like for you to know that Global Agenda has no elves.
Whether the game is any good or not is a different matter.
No one is forcing you to play anything.

I hate all the childish fantasy classes; elves included.
Well I quite enjoy elves, even though I usually roll humans for my mains.

I need to take this advice more.
It's not a matter of imagination or lack thereof, but of safe fantasy conventions and aiming to please certain demographics.

What I cant stand, is when you cant make Black Humans. in Rift for example, you cant make a Black Human character.
Philosophy of MMO Game Design
Yes, you can.
You can't make a black looking Mathosian/Guardian character but you can most certainly make an Eth/Defiant one.

No you cant. I play a Eth as my main since they have the darkest looking human. But clearly its not black. not even close to be considered.
hey its not really even a deep tan color.

Guess we're playing different games then.

Elves as a cosmetic option are boring, sure.

I like Dragon Age's depiction of Elves as slaves.
