Pritty much, thanks for clarity although any sandbox chat is welcome. Is the secret world not going to be considered sandbox?
Well it won't have level system , but is it enough to label it as sandbox? Don't think so. I have not seen anything else that could label it as sandbox , though I am not sure.
Well TSW is going to be Box sale + Subscription + Item shop game model , don't know hwat you think but for me item shop kinda goes into direct conflict with sandbox. Especially that Funcom stated that shop will give mostly character customization , and will not give unfair advantage. So it will give some non-cosmetic things and will sell fair (lol?) advantage . Well at least if they won't go back on their own words. Heh.

well it seems funcom is always taking on the next big thing. As unique as the first videos that poped out with age of conan and as pritty of a world in the "the Secret world" eye candy vids, I hope they can make it work out for the masses. I want to see some good healthy population kicking it in the secret world.
Enjoying Ryzom at the moment on the side but yeah UO even though I was too young to remember actually achieving more than killing skeletons and buying hats.
My favorite sandbox is Runescape. I love playing in sandboxes. They offer so much more than themeparks. Runescap[e touts itself as having the most subs of any MMO.
Asherons Call is my favorite followed by Fallen Earth.
Never was a fan of FFA full looting PvP hence the reason why Ive never tried Eve, DF or MO. PvE Fantasy Sandbox is the ultimate goal for an MMO for me.
Neither of which are sandbox MMOs, and it has nothing to do with the PvP.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
Ultima Online is my all-time favorite. All the non-combat options, the boats, housing, taming, mounts, fluctuating economy, etc. Other games still haven't caught up on things that UO was doing way back when. Unfortunately it was a 2d game when the 2d era was ending. The PvP was fun for some, but also ruined the experience of others (and the honor system very exploitable).
Star Wars Galaxies would be my second favorite, and like UO it reached far. The space flight and player created cities were nice steps for the genre. The crafting was also amazing. Unfortunately, the combat was never very engaging, and the game was very buggy and imbalanced on release. Then dull and unoriginal after the CU.
Both games are near the top of my all-time favorite MMO list. New games should look at what they did right, and then try to work around their problems.
I played SWG 18s month straight without a break, good times, still my favorite game iv ever played. I Was one of the lucky ones who waited a year after release right at its peak and played till WOW came out.

Ultima Online not even Everquest came close to its charme, non combat activities and overall living world feeling.
EvE before CCP became greedy
We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!
"Everything you're bitching about is wrong. People don't have the time to invest in corpse runs, impossible zones, or long winded quests. Sometimes, they just want to pop on and play." "Then maybe MMORPGs aren't for you."
Fallen Earth doesn't even register as a sandbox to me, too much focus on quests.
I might have thought that, until I leveled a character without questing and found out it was faster. Not that I even agree with your underlying premise - that quests = non-sandbox. Sandbox is freedom to do what you want in an open virtual world.

It was the the bonus AP quests that killed that for me. I know that they've since fixed the AP system by adding a cap and making it so that you can earn AP through just playing the game. Prior to that though, you absolutely had to hunt down and do AP quests if you didn't want to be gimped.
Despite that being fixed now though, the item shop killed whatever other chance for me to consider the game a sandbox in my book.

Granted. I did level that character after the AP changes. I'm still not sure how the item shop will pan out. Right now it is acceptable to me. Fluff stuff, convenience stuff, but I wonder if it is sustainable or will just lead to a slow down to development.

And this is about SAndbox MMO's, WoW is definitely not a sandbox MMO. UO could probably be classed as sandbox.

Minecraft is the biggest non-massive multiplayer sandbox right now. I think the problem with sandbox mmo IS the massive element of the equation.
It's sort of like communism: it's fine if you only have 10 people. More than that and what was once a sandbox is now a litterbox.
UO - The best.
SWG was good, needed some tweaks, not the overhaul it got.
A lot of the developers for UO helped make SWG.

https://www.therepopulation.com - Sci Fi Sandbox.
The best I found around are Eve-online and Ryzom.
SWG (pre-CU/NGE) was also good for as long as it lasted.
"If all magic fails, rely on three feet of steel and a strong arm"
10six, endlessages,neocron and planetside.
Own, Mine, Defend, Attack, 24/7
SWG was my favourite game. R.I.P
Currently playing Darkfall

EVE
Fallen Earth

Shadowbane. Most fun I've ever had in an MMO -

Anarchy Online was my first love and tho I don't play it anymore it's still one of my alltime-favs. One of the best class-systems ever met.
Fallen Earth is the second best in my opinion in the list of sandboxies.
remember kids:
It's "down the road" and not "across the street"

EvE is also click-to-move which is the only thing about it I dont like, the rest of the game is superb, been playing it since 2006.
Ultima Online
Another vote for UO.
Missing it terribly at the present.
