Guild Wars 2: Guild Shopper's Paradise

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

According to several online sources, ArenaNet has confirmed that Guild Wars 2 players will be able to join more than one guild. All characters will belong to the same guild(s) but players can use characters in different scenarios within different guilds. If today is Monday, it must be RP guild day!

The guild information released was:

  • Guild membership is account wide, and you can add as many guilds as you like.  You will be able to choose, at any time and on any character, which guild chat you are viewing and what guilds you are currently affiliated with.

  • Doing different activities (“almost anything,” to quote Eric Flannum) with guild-mates will earn Influence for one’s guild, which can be spent towards guild upgrades (storage, etc), or special in-game boosts like a flag that grants extra XP to guild members within its range.

  • Specific guilds will be able to capture keeps within WvWvW PvP, and be able to use their Influence to create upgrades to those keeps.

I threw up in my mouth a little. I have had to deal with a bunch of problems that multiple guild games bring into running a guild.

I find it rather odd to be a member of several guilds. They should have added alliances instead or something :S

That is a good idea. Much better than the way they are taking it.

I think this is all about their philosphy on including everyone in their game. Stuff like raiding, single guilds, and other is about exclusivity. They are trying to get away from that. In real life you can belong to more than one club, same thing appllies here.

It always sucks when a group of your guild members decides to start a "cool kids only club" that brings in a whole bunch of guild politics and drama that results in the removal of said group of members. It's no good.

Ill stick to my lotro RP guild that are also going to play GW2 alongside lotro. Just give us a proper run european RP server but having played GW on and off since release i know that ArenaNet value their european players very highly.

Alliances or something similar has been vaguely implied at PAX panel. In any case, this is a good approach. Finally I'm no longer a slave to my guild while my RL friend(s) belong to another guild with a different purpose. I can switch at will.

Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.

While agree that politics sucks in any group, I don't think that is exclusive to this issue.

Tbh, i dont like this. So all my charcters will be in all guilds ? And everybody in those guilds will know all my characters  ?  I dont think this is good feature. They said in some pax interview that they view guilds to be similiar to social networks, but they should understand that not everybody wants to be permamently conected to some social network, this is imo realy bad implementation of guild system.

They should have made guilds and then given players the option to make social groups instead of making them one and the same.

They shouldnt make guild membership account wide and it would be fine.

No you can actually choose if you dont want a particular character to be in any guild or not. Its just that your account is linked to a guild.

I don't understand your problem.  It will be up to you whether or not your character joins a guild.  It sounds to me like they are adding a feature that allows for characters to belong to multiple guilds but it doesn't require you to join one.  Maybe I don't understand how the guild system works but I watched the video where Eric Flannum talked about the guild system and I didn't hear anything about a requirement that your character belongs to a guild.   If one of your characters never changes or joins a guild, how will anyone ever know?  The choice is on your end.

Anyway, I guess I didn't here what you are referring to but I don't think it works like you are stating.

At first I wasn't sure what to think.. but now when I look at it, I like it. You can have a nice tight knit guild to whom your all really familliar with each other, another 'raiding' guild for raiding, pvp guild.. etc.

  • TheRebellionTheRebellion Member UncommonPosts: 48

I can see this eliminating some problems though. I'm not sure what "raiding" or the high end game content will be like, but this way if you like hanging out with one guild, but can't meet their raid times, you can join another one to run the content.

This way you can also sample other guilds without having to risk leaving your current one right off the bat. I had this problem while I played WOW where I'd be part of a Guild for a few months and really enjoy the company, but they weren't very competitive, pve or pvp, and I didn't want to just leave them to get the chance at new content.

I believe they said that there will not be any guild vs. guild in the traditional sense ( apparently a guild could setup a pvp server for match play.)  Instead they will allow guilds to fly their guild banner at any keeps they take over during WvWvW.  I personally prefer the latter.  The other two worlds will know the guild that took their keep or the guild dominanting the mists.

This multiple guild system works great in FFXIV so why not in GW2? if anything it allows you to be more social.

Funny it has been more of a problem in FFXIV than it was in FFXI from what I have experienced.

I don't know how it is a problem because it allows you to be a member of different guilds with different goals in mind. That way you can interact on broader spectrum and not /quit guild in case your current guild doesn't meet all your requirements. For example if my guild is PVE focused i can join a crafting focus guild and benefit from both ends.

Thank you A-Net for keeping guild membership account-wide.

Which is nice until you have to deal with the people that skip out on dungeon runs becuse they belong to multiple guilds that focus on the same thing. I guess from a single person point of view it's a good thing. It a major pain in the rear for people running guilds.
