Look, these discussions can get animated at times, that can be part of the fun and make for interesting reading, and there is nothing wrong with that.  But ad hominem attacks, meaning personal attacks on others (or insults), crosses the line of decent discussion, IMO.  In that I agree with PeterPain.

ad hominems = PVP on Atys.

Seriously, it's actually pretty hard to not fall into the ad hominems trap on these forums. I have only managed to see a handful of "professionals" do it in my entire life time on the net. Everybody will fall victim to it at one time another.

People tend to feel personally threatens when their "thoughts" and "values" are threatens (as in, I like this game. You say this game suck, ergo, you're calling me an idiot for playing it). Which is totally not the case.

PP has evry right to post that the game isn't to his liking just as we have to right to post that we love the game.

There's no shame in accepting difference of opinion, and one is not superior to another.

    edit to add:

    It works both way.

You can also interpret as: I don't like this game, but you say it's awesome, ergo you're calling me an
idiot. This is also not the case.

But, if you really ARE saying that people are dumb for liking this game or not like this game (as some tends to do), then ... well ... there's no point in debating with you.

People also have a really bad habit of calling anything that doesn't agree with them a flame or personal attack. I agree when someone calls someone else stupid for liking something, they are an idiot.

The thing that certain people on this board need to remember is that this is not the official Ryzom boards. Nor is it a board for praise only. It's a board so that people who play or have played the game can discuss the good and bad points of it.

yeah having strong opinions is dangerous. things typed in the heat of the moment can easily cross the line into flames and insults. I'm as guilty of this as anyone, and i'm sorry if i have offended anyone. Gonna try to be more constructive and less accusing from now on :)

point remains though there have been a lot of events recently :D

As for why I keep posting here? Because someone has to point out the half-truths to people before they jump into the game and find nothing like people described.

You have that right as well as anyone here. If you have something negitive to say about a game, I for one would like to hear it so that I don't do like I have done so many times in the past and waste $50.00 on a game that was slapped together with a nice shot of hype shoved up my ass in order for me to go out and buy it so that the game creator gets the $50.00 out of me and the rest of you becasue that is the only reason I believe some of these games today are being released for.

If the game blows, it simply blows. If word gets back to the people who released a game that blow, perhaps they will work on making it better. Very few companies do that, but I very much respect the ones that do.

I came to this forum to see what people are saying about the game befor I gave it a try. I'm gonna hold off and see if things get to looking better for it. TY for your posts and opinions.

i was in the closed beta of this game and dabbled in the open beta....someone please tell me why this game isnt a piece of shit...

i just wanna know why you think this game is fun.

  • mmattommatto Member Posts: 135

You can read ratings to see what people are thinking of this game. Of course, you must utilize your own brain to critically read both positive and negative comments about the game. Just that someone keeps repeating an opinion about game, does not make that opinion any more true than any other opinion out there.

After you have read those ratings and you want to ask more specific questions about game, please do so.

I believe the above statement is about as much a rating as any. It's called cutting through the bullshit and getting right to the point. image

Are you kidding?  That's the most ignorant view/review I have ever heard.

He played the Beta and deem to be able judge the game base on that, when the servers were in beta testing? image

The game is fun for a lot of reasons, and the poster who answered him say "a lot of those reasons are listed in the player reviews rating section.  Go read it."

  • theanimedudetheanimedude Member UncommonPosts: 1,610

Honestly, the reason why most of you *put ignorant name here* dont find it fun, is because you are sucked in this world of "OMG WoW and EQII are the best games ever" modes. MMORPGs dont all have to be the same, and frankly, if you had played SoR since beta 2 like some of us, you would know that it is a very deep game, that the community actually matters, unlike those "big name" company games that just say "do our quests and stfu"

Personally, I dont play SoR anymore, but thats because I dont have time with the game development I do. Seriously, I just think a lot of you are afraid of change. If something isnt the same template as everything else you follow, then it must be bad. I frankly agree with most of the comments by rush and others, you DONT know what goes on, because you HAVENT followed the game, and ARENT in the in-game events.

I know the concept of "GMs actually take part in the game" is hard for most of you, since they do nothing in every other MMO on the market right now, but you should really learn to get out of this habit, because frankly games like Heroes Journey and others are stressing on GM events, rather than your generic "everything is the same" way things are right now.

In summary, dont put down something, because you are afraid of change. And stop whining like a damned child, no one likes it. image

Well, I found the game boring because I couldn't find anything interesting to do. Harvesting gets boring after a while and combat/magic is uninteresting in this game. As for events, I only attended one, and it wasn't anything special. I've played both WoW and EQ2, yes, but I don't think they are the greatest games ever, I left looking for something different, but, honestly, didn't find it in SoR. By reading the forums, there seems to be something special in the game, but once I started playing, I didn't find it anywere.

I played the game since launch, followed it closely (still do in fact) and your post is absurd. I won't argue that there are some events that go on, but to say those events make Ryzom this game that is truely different than other games is redicilous. A MMO can not depend solely on events to make it successful. There needs to be unique and fun things to do between the events. This is where Ryzom currently fails.

You can scream, yell, flame, and tell people they just don't get it all you want. None of that matters because in it's current state Ryzom can't pull in a decent number of subscribers nor can it hold on to the ones it has for long periods of time. I won't deny that Ryzom has amazing possibilities. But until Mr. Cohen Corval's letters stop talking about what the future holds and starts talking about what the game currently has, the game simply isn't going to go anywhere.

Hi Peter.  I personally thought SoR harvesting is quite intriguing, as oppose to EVE and EQ2 click harvest and go make coffee.

When you're low lvl, digging just consist of running to the auto pop green nodes in town and extracting from it.  But once you up to a little more skills, it gets a bit more interesting.

I also have a lot of fun tracking special supreme mats in the prime root, running treks, exploring new area, fighting named mobs and their goons, partake in a goth party, a wedding, a gladiator event, an olympic event, and a faction war event, all within the past months.

I think SoR is very hard to get into, but once you find the right groove it's very addictive and entertaining.

As an example, I had a blast 2 nights ago trying to kill a Goari Boss on a Tryker island, and it took us 3 hours to try to figure out a way to kill him, which we eventually did, but involved a lot of strategic 'ressing' image.  But we would never be able to do what we did if we were low lvls.

Also, I think falling in with the right group of people enhanced the game a lot.  The people I play with on a regular basis (my guildies) are matured, fun, and kickass'ing.  They improved my gaming experience immensely and is the main reason I play mmorpg as oppose to the more content rich standalone games.

Just another view for your consideration to oppose that of sleepy.

sleepy, did you ever stop to think that maybe SoR isnt trying to pull in the masses? Not everyone is Blizzard or SoE you know. Some people try to make the game their way, instead of going the safe and easy templated way to make a game. As for the events, they do it that way because thats what their player base likes, if you're not into it fine, then youre not. I was simply stating that those people who flame it because its not like WoW or EQ are on a one track mind. I have played both WoW, and EQII, and i'm not going to say theyre absolutely freaking horrible, theyre rather a different style of play. They are what the general public wants, and thats what Blizzard and SoE cater to, the masses, not the little people.

My problem sor was its inability to welcome the newbie. I tired to like this game, but I found it frustrating to do anything. I had to go hunt something, ok so I wanders around for ages trying to find the damn thing, and still couldn't find it. I even got together with three others and still we coulodn't find the damn things! MMO's need to understand that not everyone is an expert at mmo, they need to provide something that people can pick up and play, then after a while discover the hidden depths, Ryzom doesn't seem to have this, and it seems  very much a beta game, which is a pity, as others have said it shows promise, but these days promise is not enough, a polished product is.

There is a big difference between pulling in the masses and what they have now. Clearly they intended to have many more subscribers than they do now. It's why they started with 4 servers.

Also don't fool yourself into thinking that the way things are currently run is the way they want them or even the way the players want them. Or for that matter players are totally satisfied, they are not. It's not to say they are unhappy but most players view the game as it is now as something that is missing much of what they want. A working encylopedia, Invasions, Outposts, more in game story content, new areas, new races, new skills.

its funny how no one has said how this game is fun....just a bunch of whining.

i heard some guy babbling about wow and eq2 and how we're dumb or some-shit for playing their superior products, but whatever kid...i have no ties to these companies; i'm here for the party.

last time i played ryzom there was nothing to do, so i'm asking now, whats up with SoR? i dont have time to be hating on people or games

  • SxarletSxarlet Member Posts: 112

    lovely thread this is ;)

I love the game and find it lots of fun. (so there is the first who says it is, necbone)
Since release I have a lot of fun with the (roleplay) events, boss hunting or exploring.
Sometimes the game still amazes me.

But some things sleepy says are true. The things to do between events can be a bit
thin, and sometimes you just have to make your own story to enjoy it.
One of the problems the game has is that it has so much potential. But Nevrax is just
very small and works hard (at least i hope) to make something of that potential. But
for us players they cannot do it fast enough.

I still enjoy it, and as long as i do, i will play it.

    There's still nothing to do.

    To "theanimedude":

I've never played WoW or EQ (I or II).  Your comments above are completely off the mark.  I found SoR boring after a few months of very casual playing, not because of how it compares to some other game, but only because it was boring.

I played this game about 4 months (since beta...).

It's a very immersive world... a lot of good ideas...

but it becomes very boring at some point... there're always something to do... but only grinding...

the world looks alive... but feels empty...

    the pvp system is crappy...

almost all the players I know... have quitted the game...

Actually, Nevrax is currently improving pvp system as their main focus and skill balancing part should improve also pve experience. Hopi it goes well as it might end up in lots of whining if some uberskill get nerfed a lil bit.
