I've read and I hear a lot about the fact that Guild Wars 2 will not have end game gear grind. Wich is a big plus for sure. I'm the kinda gamers that plays a LOT , I currently play Wow everynight, i raid 3 -4 nights a week, computers games are my hobby and I like it.
I do hate Wow on the fact the only reason you do not want a patch or an update is that all the gear you worked for the last three most become obsolete. That is a plus for GW2 . BUT in Wow there is a lot of "funny" gear. In Firelands we have a trinket that can proc a meteorite on attacks. There are items that does a lot of things ( us tanks can absorb extra heals and heal ourself with the new trinket ) . Some gear changes your appereance on use and you get a bit stronger for a while.. I mean, those kind of Items are really cool to have and use BUT also changes strength in gear.
Do we know so far if there will be those kind of gear in GW2 so not everyone attacks do the exact same?
I mean i still like to know my dps or tanking is better than someone else because i know what's better gear for my class and what is not ( gemming , enchanting and such ) . I do not mind if its easy to get but i still want to be able to personalize my gear for "stats"

There are stats on gear. Here is an excellent blog post about them.

Most interesting to me is how the gear stats favor generalization over specialization.
There might be weapons with procs. For instance, ghastly weapons heal the user during the day and steal life from enemies at night.

I don't know that we'll see specific weapons with usable effects due to the limited skill bar and just that by the way the game sets the first half of your skill bar by which kind of weapon you have equipped.
There are also upgrade components for weapons and armor. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Upgrade_component

Plus they're trying to take away min maxing your armor to be better, it's suppose to be more skill based rather than you just trying to get every little stat has high as possible.
In one of the fan writeups from Pax someone talked about picking up some arm that had come off one of the dead and throwing it at an enemy - and it burst into a poison bomb. I think there will be plenty of environment type things to use in some fashion.
