Over the years I stopped following games that seem intresting to me before release, I dislike spoilers, I dislike promises often made with most games and like to see for myself what the outcome/release will be for myself with actual gametime playing it.
I noticed years ago the more I followed a game the bigger the disappointment was when the game was finaly released.
I wonder am I the only one and are more who are intrested in a game the ones who follow it to the letter?
It doesn't mean I totaly ignore news/topics/reviews about games before playing them, but I have learned nothing beats the true ingame experiance instead of the expectations build by hype.

Nope. While I am interested in The Secret World and Star Wars; The Old Republic. I don't follow them other than the occasional video because I don't want to know the secrets of the game. I don't want to plan out my avatar even before I can get in game. I want to experience the game as it is. Not as what I think it's supposed to be based on months of research. Where's the fun in knowing everything before you even log in?
I don't want to be efficient. I want to have fun.
you are not alone. i'm very curious about GW2 and TSW, but i know very little about them compared to the amount of info out about them.
hype can kill anything. music/movie/book/game.
More I follow a game (getting to know every detail), less I want to play it because I lose interest. Waiting sucks (maybe that's just me).
I used to be the other way around. While waiting for my new computer back in the day I read all about EQ for months before starting to play. But now I try to distance myself from learning too much, even playing the beta now tends to ruin games I feel.

I'm a bit at the opposite, i have learn the kind of taste i have and can see way before release what are the games that i will play, and i rarely fail. It doesn't mean i'm not disapointed, far from that. But the thing i'm sure is that most of the time the game that seamed the good one during development showed to be the best from all the game released the same year. Also with time i try to not read that much about a game as i used to do, i try to keep some distance, and just look at the general informations.
I remember after discovering EQ1 all those years ago that I was hungry for news about forthcoming MMO's, I would eagerly absorbed as much info on a proposed project as quickly as it could be made available.
My faith in the information being fed to me was shattered after Horizons, the original screenshots resembled nothing like the outcome, gone where the lofty promises of an MMO never before seen, instead we got a game that was more Meh than OMG.
Since then I've given new press releases on forthcomming games a cursory glance, noted the feature list and tucked it away on my "To watch in the future" list.
So for me, yes it's good to see new games announced, but yes I believe in seeing beforing believing the hype machine, that is inevitably created by over-zealous fans reading too much into a feature list that may never be fully realised come release day.
Call me an idealist, but all i ask from a new game is that it brings something new... and that its prizing is reasonable. I may like it or not, but I'll always applaud innovation.
I'm quite the same, I only look at big major announcements and don't even bother glancing at all the interviews, hands-on impressions and what not mainly because I've grown acustom to the "try it before you bash it" approach. But when I have some free time, I don't mind going on the games website and looking around and reading up on things.
I don't clamor in line to play betas any more, so I see what you are saying! I follow the games to a point, but not excessively. If there is a 30 minute video, I might watch the whole thing, but usually once I get the gist of it I will turn it off. I don't want to watch someone else play, I want to play it myself.
I stopped following games much too!
Ocassional teaser video is awesome as long as its just info like the ones you see on the back of the box n stuff like "this has co op!" or "this is single player" or "this is an rpg!"
And I do look at the lore a bit sometimes but I try to not look at gameplay stuffs much anymore o.o
