Dungeon Siege III, is it fun?

gordiflugordiflu Member UncommonPosts: 757

No MMO interests me at the moment, so I was considering Dungeon Siege III. I loved Dungeon Siege but I hated Dungeon Siege II.

What do you think? Is it worth purchasing?

Thanks.

Most of my issues for the PC version are due to the wonky controls. It probably wouldn't be bad if you used a controller, but it is pretty obvious that it was designed around a console control scheme. My wife actually just picked me up a copy for the 360 at Target yesterday, it was clearanced down to $25. To me the game is worth it for this price, it's not very elaborate with classes and skills and the story isn't that memorable... wait I was trying to say the game was good!

I guess, if you were playing it on a PC - I'd pass. Maybe grab a copy of Torchlight instead of you want a good PC dungeon crawling action rpg of sorts. If you can get it for cheap on a console, I'd say go for it. The action is fast, lots of eye candy (in my opinion) and there's plenty of loot to go around. It's definately not much of a true sequel to the previous two Dungeon Sieges, it's on it's own really.

It's not just the controls. Everything screams console about this game.

DS3 is nothing like the original Dungeon Siege. Don't know about 2 though, since I haven't played that one.

And to echo what's been said, do not get the PC version. This is one of those games where you can immediately tell that not much thought went into the PC port.

dont know if there's a pc demo out there but if there it is try that. But ya i tried the demo on ps3 and thought it was pretty lame.

I was soooo soo hyped for this game cause I'm a massive fan of the first 2, but the third one was ok at most as another poster said the controls are wonky on the Pc and its very consolish... its was liniar all the way and u could only have 1 other player in your party unless your playing online, but that was god awful... as well, they've patched the pc controls a bit now its still a bit how you doing... its only 50 bucks on steam so thats ok... but in short not what i was excepting and i ended up dissapointed... what ever happened to gas power games btw? microsoft sell them off or sumthing? they made the first 2 soo awsome... until obsidian came in...

There was a PC demo in steam for this and there was a discussion too.

Most of the people who posted saided that they were annoyed by the controls n stuff.  I tried it and I swear everything about the controls is...Disasteriffic!  The same rating I would give to the FF14 controls when I tried it in beta~ :3

They went on to work on strategy games once Take-Two bought the publishing rights to Dungeon Siege (then later bought be SE). They worked on Supreme Commander and Supreme Commander 2, Space Siege, are now developing another RTS (name eludes me) and, finally, working on Age of Empires Online after replacing the original company.

    EDIT:

I wouldn't say they were THAT bad... though 14's problem was immense unresponsiveness.

If you want a good game like the original Dungeon Siege, then get ahold of Sacred and its expansion.  Such a great game with a massive world to explore, and many great classes!  Its a bit dated, but its still a great game.  You can get it at GoG for $10...

It's playable with a controller, but don't pay more than $20 for it. It's pretty and there are some cute boss fights, everything else just screams budget title.

edit: Actually, with Torchlight 2 coming out soon for $20, don't pay more than $10 for this.

It's ok on the PS3, but as with most console ports, it's horrible on PC.  you can't keep loot that you get in multiplayer, which totally ruins the experience, and noone plays online because of it.  last week I sat waiting for multiplayer for ~20 minutes before I finally got 3 people for it.

In my opinion: The name "Dungeon Siege 3" is misleading, since the gameplay is nothing like it's predecessors.

Pretty much. It's a completely different game that's essentially Dungeon Siege in name only. But it's a good game in its own right if you can get over the fact that gamepad is what it should be played with. Majority of hate for DS3 basically comes from veterans who couldn't deal with the fact it's different and how tacked on co-op multiplayer feels. I liked how Obsidian sneaked in some "proper" RPG elements into what would otherwise be a tight but typical H&S title - stuff like plot and moral decisions along with out-of-nowhere-5-minutes-long epilogue describing what your actions did.

it is way too short in my opinion.  you could finish the whole game in a few hours.

  • KalafaxKalafax Member UncommonPosts: 601

It is a fun hack and slash game for sure, definitly if you bring a friend along and co-op it, but you have to relize each dungeon siege has been different then the others, no two dungeon siege's have the same game system, this one is more like dragon age, while DS2 was like Diablo, and DS1 was what Fable wanted to be.

It does not have replayabilty, but its definitly great to give it a run through.

Also played DS 1 & 2 and loved them. I just got he DS3 demo yesterday and gave it a try before I decided to buy it or not (PC version). Horrendous controls. At times I was getting attacked by 6+ enemies at once and trying to use any hit and run tactics or dodging, etc was aggrivating. Found myself facing away from enemies swinging uncontrollably while I got pummeled quite a bit...and trying to roll away or dodge was basically luck to go where you actually wanted to.

    Disappointing to say the least.

huge diablo 1 & 2 fan here. i played 3 for about 5 hours. had to uninstall it, feels nothing like the diablo series.

  • majimaji Member UncommonPosts: 2,091

    It's horrible, don't buy it.

I loved DS1 and DS2. DS3? I thought "what the heck, let's just buy a game again". Played it for like 2 hours and haven't touched it since weeks. It's godawful, I wish I never bought it.

DS1, DS2, Titan Quest, Diablo 1, Diablo 2, everything is better than DS3. If I  could gift it to people I would. Or if I could delete it to get 10% of my money back I would.

They took everything from DS1 and DS2 that was good, and removed it. Then they added a clunky interface and a lot of nonsense and the result is just crap.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

I tried the demo and it felt clunky to me.

Generally if I cant sit through a demo i wont buy the game.

    Playing: Nothing

    Looking forward to: Nothing

Only played the demo, but it wasn't just the controls but the entire game just felt bad to me. I have this game Dungeon Hunter 2 on my phone and that's what the quality of the game felt to me.

I'm guessing he meant DS but wrote it in Diablo without thinking it.

Either that, or he's in the Diablo 3 beta and read "Diablo" instead of "Dungeoun Siege" >.>

    +1

It's a very shiny, polished terd. But it's still a terd.

Game is bland and on rails, customization is pretty poor. Multiplayer is frustrating at best (they limit the camera so all characters have to be on one screen, AND limit the degree to which you can zoom out just enough to be comfortable for 1 person.) I really wouldn't waste your money on this one. Get Deus Ex instead, lol.
