Hmm SOE. 3 days!??

holifeetholifeet Member Posts: 532

So I just got an email from SOE to tell me they're reactivating my account for EQ2...for 3 days.

I mean c'mon. By the time I've reinstalled and re-patched that's a day out of the way. I'm in the UK so I'll be back to work before the weekend is over in California. Does 3 days even give you an idea of how the game is these days? It could take me that long to get a group if past experience is anything to go by. That's not to mention I'd have to solo quest for 10+ levels to get to content that people would be doing.

Three days later: /puts up lfg.../trial over!

Games like EQ2 need promotion, not gimmicks. I'm not suggesting SOE let everyone play the game for free for an indefinite period but how is 3 days long enough to really decide it's worth going back?

If it had been a week I would have thought about going back in. They may have got a month or two from me.

Now they get me laughing behind their backs.

All hail the Pixel, for it is glorious Orange!

I agree 3 days is too short

Yeah 3 days is meh, however if your interested in this mount..

Come back and experience Norrath in style by leaping through amazing zones on your very own Leaping Vulrich mount. This is yours to keep FOREVER! (The Vulrich Mount is appearance only until level 30. You cannot leap until you reach level 30.)

I guess it's just worth the download for this mount in EQ2 and in EQ1 you get this...

Come back and experience Norrath while catching up with the Consigned Armor Bundle. You will have a brand new continent to explore in November, and this bundle is yours to keep FOREVER!

Don't bother downloading. It's not working. I have EQ2 installed already and got the e-mail, yet when I try to log on, it says that I'm not subscribed and prompts me to resubscribe. There are numerous posts on the EQ2 forum where people are having the same issue. By the time they get this fixed, it'll probably be over. Just another SoE failure I'm afraid.

Yeah it appears to be just another SOE cock-up.

I admit there was a time when they were getting all this bad press but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I enjoyed some of their games and thought I still could one day. Then their handling of the latest EQ progressions servers was a joke and now things like this that reek of mismanagement.

As the number of dev companies making MMOs has increased SOE really have been left down the tracks. I'll watch EQNext, but I'm not confident it'll be up to anything.

I had the same problem, called live support and it was fixed right after the 10 minute hold. Seems some accounts didn't get flagged though they got the email.

You know it worked just fine for me.

Did you goto the acount page to actually activate?

The same applied for that 45day thing, all you had to do was active before you'd get that game time.

The plot thickens. From what I can gather from the EQ2 forum thread (http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/posts/list.m?&topic_id=506255) on page 5 there is a post stating that this offer is only intended for players who have quit the game between November 5, 2010 and August 2, 2011. This was never stated in the e-mail that I and many other people received. They are apparently giving people who have received this e-mail, but who don't qualify (I know I don't), 3 days if they open a support ticket with support staff.

Well, I guess that's something, but I honestly can't be bothered going through with that.. If they want to win me back, things like these have to work right from the start. Afterall, it just makes me wonder what else they're going to screw up.

I received the same email. As much as I loved EQ, I equally dislike EQ2. I tried EQ2 and was so overwhelmingly disgusted with how they created the world over that I left the game for good. SOE should know better than to give a 3 day window. They have a bad habit of screwing things up. I still try the games, but after EQ1 it has been downhill.

They need to stick with 5 days. A week trial (not on some silly trial island that doesn't let you do much) and let people see what the game is really about. If this was EQ1 3 day, I would be more tempted (EQ1 needs to go F2P IMO). If they dump EQ2 and refocus on Vanguard they may stand a chance, slim, but they may. Especially if they make it action based.

But 3 days, I laughed out loud when I read that email and clicked on the delete button. SOE, don't waste our time. The SOE ship is sinking, we would need them to do better than 3 days for a mediocre, at best, game.

there is a two week trial - no level limit - available for the live servers

    http://eq2wire.com/2011/08/25/everquest-ii-launches-free-14-day-trial/

    http://everquest2.com/free_trial

the trial does exactly what you ask to see for a trial

the trial island was removed years ago

I agree the 3 days for old subs is lame effort

-- but the EQ2 trial for new accts is very adequate

Lets not forget a rather large amounth of people, including the ones who havent had an active acount for years received 45 days of game time, regardless of the reason.

I think it's more about them getting people to buy copy tokens and move, more than a win back thing.

Lets add another funny fact, you can play EQ2 , the live version, not talking about EQ2X, free anyway, granted you will only have

4races, 8 classes to chose from and only 2 character slots. So yes there are some restrictions to the bronce subscription.

But still, they have offered most current/former registered acount holders 45days and to some an additional 3 days of complete free time, unrestricted.

Sounds more like the OP is just looking to find reasons to complain about SOE.

Sounds to me like you're wrong. I've been generally supportive of SOE for a long, long time. With this, though, I don't need to find reasons. They're in front of me.

The reason I posted is because I fail to see the marketing bonus from offering 3 days of gameplay for closed accounts. If the free time started after you had downloaded and patched the game then maybe you could get some use from it, but I highly doubt it does. Three days is just not long enough. They may as well have sent out picture postcards.

SOE are starting to go down in my esteem though. The way they handled the EQ progressions servers was awful. They gave us all these rules they wanted to follow and broke them themselves. Now they implement too short a come back and get it wrong in to the bargain. Were they not the only company that fell eriously foul of hacking attempts too?

Anyway I can't get any worthwhile opinion of the game, as it now stands, in three days (less than three once I've patched) and I have given reasons why I feel that, if you want to bother to read them.

If SOE make an utterly outstanding EQNext or Planetside 2 then I'll be the first to say well done. I've actually been keen to play Planetside 2 since I first heard about. I just can't help but feel, based on evidence, that they'll cock it up though. They'll do something bizarre as they always do.

Actually, the 3 days did also cover lapsed EQ1 subs. Maybe even lapsed Vanguard subs (don't know because my laptop [all I had access to during the time] didn't have Vanguard installed to check).

You do realize that there is a streaming client available for Live right? You don't have to download and patch for a really long period of time before you get to play.

Playing MUDs and MMOs since 1994.
