If WoW dropped to lets say Eve numbers, would it be dead?

Dreamo84Dreamo84 Member UncommonPosts: 3,713

Just wondering with the way people are talking, if WoW dropped down to another MMOs numbers(used Eve as an example) would you consider it dead? Cause at this point they'd have to lose likely 10million subs and merge about 200 servers i think to even come close to another MMOs situation.

Would people laugh and say "Haha you are just as unsuccesful as my favorite MMO now!"

To Eve's numbers? Yes, I'd say that it's dying. Eve actually has less than about 200k subs.

If WoW dropped to say, Lotro or another good MMOs numbers... than no.

Thats a hard question I guess.  EvE isnt considered dead so Im not sure.

But if they did drop to that population I wonder if Blizzard would go ahead and shut down the servers or not.  If they did then it would certainly be dead.

I doubt it would ever happen -- EVE will probably be gone before WOW goes

Diablo2  is what ?   11 years old now?

this is information from last year, July 2010

    http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/starcraftiilegacyofthevoid/news.html?sid=6271382

11 million users still actively playing the original Starcraft and Diablo II through Blizzard's online platform, Battle.net.

yes both these games have no sub fees, but they sure have a fanbase

So.. you are saying eve is not a successful mmo ?

Hell, why start a thread like this if your point is just trolling away.  WoW is the MOST succesful mmo out there... but it doesn't mean other mmos with less people playing are not succesful.  Lotro , EVE, DDO, CoH, GW ... those were the first ones to pop in my mind as successful mmos and they hardly scratch the numbers WoW have.

Think about it, you are not the most "anything" in the world, but still you can be something. If someone is more successful than you it does not make you a looser automatically.

Vanilla WoW was actually quite good. But you had to be there to know that :).

How would it be dead if it still had active subscribers and people playing it?

It would simply have far less servers.  It is not dead until they unplug it imo.

No it would not be dead

1.Wow already made a profit, everything from that point is extra

2.Once Blizzard cut staff and servers, they would be making a profit

3.The amount of people playing EvE is just about the cut off a successful mmo today,300,000.

Here is the truth if MMO is making a profit and the players feel it has enough players on the servers with them then game is not dead.

If it suddenly droppd from the current to the EvE numbers very quickly and not over years then yeah i said it would be considered dead because of just the comparision to the amount of people.

So in this scenario if that were to happen the general mass would figure something was up and the rest would probably jump ship at the same time. People tend to follow trends. If everyone left down to EvE numbers that would be like rats leaving a ship, wether the ship is sinking or not people will figure it is.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

What are you smoking? Eve not to long ago posted a mile marker of 400K paying subs.

And to answer the question. No, WoW with 400K subs would still be a viable game for Blizzard to run.
