Goodbye to Goodbye threads.

pockets666pockets666 Member Posts: 198

Well I guess they got tired most of the posts in the community section were "goodbye" threads.  I was wondering why they were getting deleted.  Months ago when people left a goodbye thread nothing would happen to it.  I guess when there is 1 or 2 nothing happens but when you can count 10 goodbye threads in the last 20 posts in the community section that does not look good to investors or future buyers of the game.

As long as the thread does not troll anyone I do not see why they should be deleted.

According to the moderator team Community threads like these are not accepted, even though I don't think there's anything about it in the rules, and thus they'll probably delete it.

Talwin (Lead Moderator) : ""Goodbye threads" are not needed and we are removing them. If you wish to say goodbye, say goodbye to your friends through PM. But we have had enough of people creating "goodbye threads" for attention and then coming back a week later and repeating the process. They are not needed and the only purpose is attention."

I wonder if it has anything to do with them being posted here?  If things are so bad you need to change forum policy, perhaps someone should be listening rather than hiding. Its not like the MO forums are super active, there are posts from 2 months ago still on the front page. (July 4)

Told you we could expect more hilarity soon. XD

I love how he directly insults his paying customers and how he doesn't mince matters in order to appear like the 14 year old internet tough kid that he is.

Good job at employing kids, Henrik. Is that even legal?

Well, actually he is not employed, but a volunteer, and also turned 18 recently what I am aware of. Just fyi. Thou I wonder what it must have felt like for UO vetereans to be moderated by such a young volunteer.

It would be nice if you included a link to the actual post unstead of just posting the text. Without a link I had to search through scarecrovv's posts to find the one you linked to. (Not that it was hard to find, but a direct link would be nice.

A brief review of the community forum shows that they are not deleting "goodbye" threads as routine policy. As Talwin pointed out, sometimes "goodbye" threads are just an attention-grab. Sometimes there is a fine line between a "goodbye" and a ragequit / flame. Since there are plenty of "goodbye" threads left in the forums, I suspect the statement avout "goodbye" threads getting deleted was made mainly as a forewarning for those cases where it does get out of hand.

Discouraging  "goodbye" threads is hardly a new thing

Oh jeez.   They are deleting goodbye threads.  I do not know why they do not delete them all.  Gankez and Scarecrow a day ago both had goodbyes and they were deleted.  A couple here and there as well.  I think if they just deleted them all then there would be a lot more people quitting because of the mods.  To say they are not deleteing goodbye threads is just being blind.

I never said they weren't deleting some goodbye threads, just that they weren't deleting them as a matter of course.

The "goodbye" threads started by gankez and scarecrow may have been no different  from the goodbye threads that have been left. They may also have been clearly ragequit/flaming. It may also be that it was the 4th or 5th "goodbye" thread from these same people.  Without reading those threads it's impossible to judge.

And  I was pointing out that they have discouraged goodbye threads since beta. (i.e. not a change in policy)

Here is the google-cached version of gankez's goodbye thread. I don't know or keep track of him in any way but I do seem to ro remember him posting a goodbye thread before. Certainly a couple commenters in his thread had the impression it was more about getting attention and less about actually leaving.

They pay the server bills for the forum, that gives them the right.  The purpose?  They don't like to keep around threads that insult their product.  Those nazi bastards.

They do? I thought the players do. And Henrik's dad, when that isn't sufficient. Also this isn't about flame threads, it's about good bye threads.

Please don't go all "generic random sarcastic answer" on me, most of the forum members here are beyond this point, even the fanboys are waking up by now.

    Here we go again..

    1.) Make false claim.

    2.) Have it disproved.

    3.) Make another false claim.

    Not in the mood now.

I read Scarecrow's and Gankes's thread niether of them was flaming.  Scarecrow never just flames he always gives contructive critisim of the game.  Both of them did not say this game sucks we are leaving.  They were well thought out and well written.  If you thought they were flaming please post them for us to see the flames.

The problem is there is no consistancy with moderation.  Some are more delete happy than others.  I am sure it was some mod that does not like AQ for samshing his house in game.  That is the problem with mods that play the game.

Which is of course the point.  If they are deleating "flame threads" then it would simple have been deleated as a "flame thread".  Instead, the reason for deleating them is quite clearly because they are "Goodbye" threads.

Which of course leads us to the general moderation problem they have.  It's unsteady and amateurish.  There is no clear standard.    Whatever though... forum threads are really the least of their problems...

Unsteady and Amateurish? Surely you dont mean SV- I mean look at their proven track record . Obviously SV oozes with professionalism in all things they do.

SV is probably deleting the goodbye threads because of bandwidth limits in China (good deal on the server-) Perhaps some natural disaster such as a Volcano, hurricane or Earthquake has somehow caused these threads to dissapear.
