the only thing that would lead me to take points away from a perfect score are the poorly designed characters that you have to observe as they twitch, spaz and writhe during some dialogues. besides that, the game is a masterpiece. makes me feel like im in the Ghost in the Shell universe.
i have no idea why they rushed some of the character models like that....
This atmosphere in this game reminds me of Blade Runner...l.
Beat this game on the 24th, day after it came out lol. Was pretty fun, though I have no idea how I didn't get the "no kill" achievement, unless the tutorial counts.
Also I got The D Project achievement, by accident, because the Halo series trained me well :P

I've sunk twenty hours into the game and have yet to fight the first boss... heh
I can already tell im going to be playing this game for a while. with multiple play throughs.
Got the game this morning and spent 5 hours on it already. Loving all the little touches like scam emails from Nigerians offering to put millions in your bank account lol.
I don't like how the game rewards you so much more for one style of gameplay.
You get twice as much xp for stealthing the whole thing and killing no one. Zzz boring, Thief does it better.
Wtf is the point of having the option of stealth kill and stealth K.O. when the latter not only netts you more xp but also doesnt make noise.
Seems to me devs couldn't make up their mind what this game should've been. Feels like a whole bunch of different games rolled into one, except they all do their 'thing' better. Deus Ex 1 shits on this. Games these days... and their retarded xp/point systems.
I just finished my second playthrough and i still think its one of the best single player shooter 'Ghost in the Shell' esque games i've ever played. First playthrough was fun, though the automatic weapons didnt really strike me as useful, but i kept the same pistol through the first run and added damage upgrades, laser sight, and armor piercing, which pretty much did it for most the normal enemies with a headshot. The second playthrough i did stealth, tried to do it all stealth, but missed a few here and there. Like one poster mentioned, WAY more exp stealthing, i had like 13 praxis points saved when i got to second boss again. GREAT game, i dont see how anyone liking this type of genre can not like it, but to each there own!
EDIT: Here's to hoping for some sort of expansion pack with more missions/stuff to do!
Forget your umpteenth half hearted mmorpg you were going to play, and get deus ex human revolution - Simply the best game I have played for many years. Sure there are problems when you look back from the finish, but when you are in the game it draws you in and that is the key to a good game. You are led around and the story drives the game, but for once that fact is hidden so you dont notice it much while playing. Unlike mmorpgs, this is a type of game that takes advantage of story driven gameplay.
Can only speak for the pc version, but despite beeing multi platform targeting various consoles, the pc version doesnt suffer much from consolification.
Make sure to turn your sound up good while playing.. and save frequently because this game is challanging *yes you heard right, a challanging game in 2011.
ps. One minus is it require Steam and an active connection to play.

90% of your XP comes from quest rewards. The little bit of xp you get from kills hardly matters, at all. If that difference is enough to make you think this game wasn't amazing, you have preposterously high standards. It matches up with Deus Ex 1 blow for blow story-wise and atmosphere-wise, but obviously beats it on multiple areas such as ai, graphics, sound, etc.. all the advances that come from being made 7 years later. This is Deus Ex 1 with a new coat of paint and a new story. If you don't like that, you don't like Deus Ex.

Unfortunately the intro sequence in the Sarif labs does count towards the achievement, to get the achievement you have to avoid or takedown the handful of mercs you come across.
Currently playing:

Gravity Rush, Dishonoured: The Knife of Dunwall.
(Waiting for) Metro: Last Light, Company of Heroes II.
So far I like the setting/storyline. Gameplay isn't to my style. Sometimes I'll stealth but can't be arsed to do it perfectly, can't be arsed to wait for patrols to pass me by. I'll just say hi and blow people away.
I like the ammo conservation element of this game, since there are often some situations where even if you did go in guns blazing you wouldn't finish the fight as you'd run out of ammo or die. Especially the robots. Those things eat a lot of damage before they go down. And bullets!
Conversation options seem intriguing but I dont think they explained how it works (pheremones). Kinda had to figure that out for myself. Was easy once I got it.
Personally I know I could get a lot more absorbed into this game's story, but for now I'm just going to zerg through it since Warhammer 40k Space Marine is almost here. Thats the real game I'm waiting to play!! No hiding around like a sissy girl!
P.S. The chinese are lol in this game. Waiting to see how the story develops.
Anyways off to bed V_V
Currently waiting for the MMO industry to put out something good.

He's kinda right on the point of optimal playstyles though, i'd have preferred that i could have just punched a password in here and there and not feel like i missed out on the items and XP that hacking grants you. I have no beef with killing someone occasionally though as the reward i'm missing out on is so miniscule (Even though the occasional kill only happens because i'm constantly out of tranq. darts and stun rounds) still, it's kinda niggling me that there is an optimal way of playing the game.
Oh and bosses, don't get me started on bosses, that first boss took me at least 20 tries before i got enough lucky breaks with my handgun as the only lethal weapon (and only thing with ammo :P) let's just say i learned to use everything in the environment real quick.
Still a great game and a worthy successor to the original Deus Ex.
Pretty good game for action junkies out there. The story is also great, nice cinematics. Quite realistic gameplay, since you are able to shoot some bad guys on the first few minutes of the game while you are hiding on walls without crosshair. And I cant even use my bunnyhopping skills for the fact that they have augmented arms that increases their firing damage at you.
Just did my first playthrough. The game is good... Well worthy of the first game. First game has been on the top of my "favorite games eva" list for ages and now it has some run for its money. My only beef with the story is/was that it sort of suddenly just stopped and the end game was revealed. I would have really liked the story to have one more twist up it's sleeve or a longer build up for the final stage...
Loved it, will probably play it again with a little breather in between.
And to point out that, if you guys are focusing on the xp and how the game plays, you are missing the point. Sometimes I do sneak around, but when I screw up, the shooting starts, and that's the beauty of it. Don't reload for xp sake, it's not like you will miss that much xp for it. The story rolls on until Jensen lays on the floor bleeding oil from his augmentations. If you constantly re-load due to "someone spotted me", no wonder you can play the game 20 hours before the first boss...
I like how the game gives you choice. Though it is quite a "tunnel run", there are multiple paths just like in the original game, and that's where the draw of this game is and was in the original... It is finally a worthy successor to the original title. I really hope they have more in store. Can't wait to get me more DX!

Im still playing the game and i went from trying to never kill anyone to basically playing the game how i would act on it in real life if i could. if i see an oppertunity to sneak i will, if im low on cash ill slaughter an entire alleyway of citizens, If i come across two guards in a room with no way ill get detected by others ill speed run and double kill their asses.
Its completely natural and i found that trying to play a certain way exclusively makes the game feel limiting.
Already 35 hours invested into the game and i still turn it on, its so much fun.
I am almost done with my second playthrough, and decided to go gun blazing style. Screw mercy takedowns I am comming through and my upgraded 10mm is leading the way with headshots.
Thing is that it is not really viable to rush in because you will die (atleast on hardest), so even after deciding to be a badass with a gun and no conscience, I find I have to sneak and hide and plan ahead almost as much.
My point is, yes I the game is biased towards sneaky maneuvers and the 3D shooter approach is not possible/fun.
BUT the loss of xp from shooting vs sneaking and mercy takedowns is very little if you do the actual calculation.
Say you incapacitate all the enemies in the game that would make 250ish enemies? (only a guess).
If you headshot they will give 20 less xp than mercy takedown so that is 20*250=5000xp, which is something between 5 and 10% more xp. Since you will have all the augs you need halfway throught the game that 5-10% extra doesnt mean much.
(correction after checking xp again, it is more like 2-5%)
ps. I tried for the pacifist achievement the first time, never killed anything besides bosses, but still didnt get it - Problem is the idiots sometimes kill themselves by hitting an exploding barrel and similar, and either this count as a kill or maybe I tranqed some enemy near that blew up with it.. not sure but if you are doing pacifist, be sure to check some guides. Now for foxiest of hounds, which I hope to get this time .
Darn it, where have I been this time of the year? I am late again, so its out already. Guys what do you think would be the best console to play the game. I have both xbox360 and ps3. Need to know the difference in frame rates and add-ons in game.
im only on the second level so far so i cant comment on all of the game and personaly im finding deus ex a chore to play
last week i played metro 2033 and im finding deus ex to be quite bland compaired to metro
so far metro story and graphics are 100% better than deus ex
even metros stealth feels better cause you feel like your really hiding
the only thing ive found so far deus ex has which metro hasnt, is a inventory and the abilty to talk to people with different outcomes and args
but to behonest if they took that out i wouldnt miss it
Those are two completely different games, Deus ex is a Rpg not many Rpgs are going to stack up well against a regular FPS with survival horror elements.
Obviously if they took out the RPG Deus ex wouldnt be much since it is a full blown rpg heh.
Deus Ex hr is up to same standard as the original. Some things are better, and some things are not as good.
It is a rpg and not really a 3d shooter.
it requires much sneaking and planning while watching patrols and generally alot of patience and reading to follow the story.
All depends on taste, but for me its the best game in years.
Took me around 70 hours for the first completion.
pros/cons:
Awesome sound, nice story, great sneaking elements, many ways to accomplish objectives.
Some AI flaws, some crashes, Steam required, loads slooooow (on a brand new i7 with 16g ram etc), maps can be overwhelming and hard to navigate at first.

Just for future playthroughs or fights, save EMP grenades for the robots. One hit kills!

Holy shit dude, 70 hours? My first playthrough took 22 hours, and I explored pretty much everything! I did run and gun though, but does sneaking around really take that much more time?
<childish, provocative and highly speculative banner about your favorite game goes here>
The most aggravating thing about the inventory system in this game is how you cannot carry multiple copies of one weapon. I didn't shoot those 20 cops in China so I could get their damn combat rifle bullets, I wanted their GUNS so I could dump them at the local weapons merchant and finally get enough money for Praxis upgrades. I'm assuming that an unseen conversation between Jensen and the merchant in the Hung Hua Hotel went something like this:
"You make me poor! Barter with you no fun!"
"How about I bring those 19 other shotguns on the dead Belltower agents down the street?"
"Sorry, we no make bulk purchases here. But if you pick one up, bring it back here, then continue doing this 18 more times, maybe I reconsider."

Just finished it, took my time - the game was SWEET.

Edit: Also read a review saying Jensen grated alot as the main character, didn't pick that up at all - maybe it's how you play.

The Deep Web is sca-ry.
Well, I read they cut about 60 hours of content from the game, so DLC is likely I'd imagine.
Anyone else immensely disappointed with the final "boss"?
