I have to agree with Xerith. I personally got the pre-order just to be on the "safe side", but I am ready to cancel it if the subscription model is not to my liking. It really would be nice to have some info on this already though.

Agreed. I find it odd they haven't yet released the subscription model unless it's something completely different than we are used to.

Once you take off the tinfoil hat, it becomes a greater likelihood that they haven't mentioned it simply because it will be the standard 14.99 to which we are all accustomed.
Any hints as to how much this game will cost per month? I'm holding off on pre-order until I know for sure.
If i where to bet, I would say the normal 14.99 with lower per month if paying more months in advance. Also remember they have said if you do not pre-order you may not get to play for a while after launch. Which probablly amounts to just the next week; but depending on how hardcore you take MMOs, it could feel like forever.

Tinfoil hat? Since when is wondering and being ready to change your decision to buy a conspiracy theory? To turn your own arguement against you though, if they ARE going with the standard pricing model then why aren't they just telling everyone? Still no conspiracy theory in that question, it is what it is, a question.

Anyway, concerning a monthly fee of $19.99:
A sudden 25% increase from the accustomed standard MMO fee is a bit severe in terms of inflation and customers' expectations. While I don't profess to be a business expert, I feel money lost due to the alienation of potential players would outweight the increased income from the higher subscription fee. At the very least it's a huge business risk for a game pre-launch. That's not to say that it isn't also a huge risk post-launch. I doubt many players would be too happy to hear that the game they've been playing for months is suddenly going to cost them $5 more per month. This seems especially silly considering the advent of cash shops for supplemental income, which, of course, is also controversial for many, but it's at least a method that already has a foundation in the online gaming world and can be implimented in a much less aggressive, forceful manner.
I would certainly look to other comparable MMOs first.
I would pay $19.99/month if there were absolutely no cash shop of any kind and the game had sizable story updates for every class each month. Otherwise, no. The number of raids or battlegrounds they add, if any, means absolutely nothing to me, and I consider bug fixes their responsibility to pay for, not mine. Lots of ongoing stories would certainly be worth $20/month to me, but nothing else would be. I'm not sure I'm the best person to ask, though, because nothing else would be worth $14.95/month to me either, which means I probably won't be a long-term subscriber. The BioWare stories are the only "endgame" I'm interested in, and it's pretty unlikely they'll be able to afford monthly story updates for every class, let alone stories large enough to keep me busy for 30 days.
Well if you take into account how much value the U.S. dollar has lost since 14.99 became the standard. Then they could easily charge 19.99 just to make up for it.
However I see them sticking with 14.99 and making extra money with fluff items.
Can anyone speculate why they haven't announced at least some sort of payment plan on this game? I totally agree with NDA type things and not discussing every detail of a game but what does pricing have to do with that?
Why am I concerned? They're accepting pre orders for goodness sakes. You're accepting pre orders, but you havent even announced what the payment method will be? Monthly? That seems incredibly off too me.
I cant think of one reason not to have already announced this. Especially with people now actually putting forth money to play it. That makes no sense to me. Maybe Im ignorant on some detail here. Because Im baffled.

In all honesty they mentioned the game would have the standard monthly fee with some "twists" meaning there may be alternate payment methods being planned on here.
They could be exploring other options as far as payment plans go, they can also look at the data they are getting from testing and decide how much time people are spending on average playing and maybe trying to find a way to maximize profits, or create the best deals or incentives to keep players subscribing for the entire year. We really won't know until they announce this stuff... only then will we know why it took so long.

I'm actually expecting more along the lines of $15.99
I had considered going against my better judgement and pre-ordering a digital version of the game. However, the lack of an announced subscription fee has kept me from doing so. Like everyone else, I've "assumed" that they will stick to the standarrd fee of $14.99 but that seems like a good way to get bitten in the backside too. I mean lol, everything about the game so far feels high priced.
Well as for 19.99$ personally I don't care but to be realistic there are countries such as mine where such price would be fail. For that much (+ ~2-3$) here in Poland I can have 2 months of WoW or actually any other MMO. Maybe with an exception of EVE but even here prices are definitely in favour of EVE not SW.
Unless this would be 2 months sub or something that would allow avg player to play for a bit more than a month ofc:)
It wouldnt surprise me if they introduced the standard $14.99 a month but will have discounts if you purchase multiple months. The more time you purchase the more the discount.

A mmorpg for $19.99 a month? I would probably pass, even though I am a Star Wars fan since I was a kid. I usually sign up for a 3 month subscription anyways on mmo's.
With todays mmorpgs going the way of the F2P, I don't many companys using this route to get money from the player base. More likely they will just put in a cash shop to make more extra money as a bonus to their paychecks.
Meh. I guess. I dont consider those listed lower then the $14.99 a major MMO, except maybe for UO. Even now, UO is not as popular as it once was. I should of reworded that AAA mmos I have never seen below or above the $14.99.
Comments
I highly doubt they will do anything other than the typical $14.99 plan with discounts for bulk pricing.

EA knows perfectly that they haven't released the monthly cost yet and still they have all that pre-orders.
I have never seen an mmo that required a sub higher or lower then the $14.99 a month. Why would this be any different?
per month.
"Gypsies, tramps, and thieves, we were called by the Admin of the site . . . "
some mmo's have had pricing structures lower than $14.99, they ust arent all that common.

I hear that there will be no monthly fee. You actually have to RE-BUY the game EVERY MONTH if you want to keep playing.
Of course, they also have the option to install coin operated time cards in your computer and you can just feed the machine quarters.

Same thoughts here.
But I agree with the notion that its about damn time to at least release detailed payment / cost info. (As they have started taking preorders).

Might want to take a look at this list.
I'm guessing that SWTOR will at least be $1 more than average, if not having some type of "premium" subscription for $19.99 per month.

As long as they don't pull that crap like SOE with DCUO and charge Australia $20 a month, I won't have a problem with them.
How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW?
