Not sure why I AoC is listed as a good pve only with no mention of the new hardcore fresh start pvp server. Pvp in AoC is a blast. The only mmo besides eve that does not feel like a kids game
Yeah, I am not too sure about this list. I think it would be better if a group of staffers did a concensus ranking instead of one person giving his list. As I was going down the list, I felt like it started off strong (Vanguard is a decent game) but it just kind of went on a downward spiral. Before looking at the #1 game, I tried to think what game I thought deserved a second chance and the only game I could think of was Dungeons and Dragons Online... but Darkfall As Zack Ryder would say:
Don't bother with Darkfall, the company is dishonest and has been misleading its players with DF2.0. Vanguard is just on an SOE skeleton screw and your really not getting a proper MMO service for your money, SOE has no interest to take VG forward, it will be out the way by the time EQ3 is released.
Vanguard - Yes, great game. Only problem is you need to be playing with friends. Not much you can accomplish on your own. That being said I think it is a great game, but it has no future.
CO - I just tried this game yesterday and removed it today. Just isn't my thing. I'm not sure why, I just didn't find it fun. I would rather play DCUO.
Fallen Earth - I have never understood all the love that game gets here. I have tried it multiple times because you guys push it so hard and come away disappointed and remorseful of having gone through the effort to get it up and running each and every time.
AoC - Possibly, but I purchased all their expansions and don't feel like playing under their new F2P rule set.
Darkfall - I always wanted to like this game, however I just couldn't find ANYONE who was willing to play it with me. I did the free trial and thought it was ok. I was even going to buy it when they were selling it cheap and giving you a free month but I got caught up in something else, and when I went to go buy it they had raised the price again. I would be willing to give it a shot if they drop their price again with 2.0
Darkfall - if aussie ping wasn't 280-300 now (after the ninja server move) I'd still be there
AoC / FE - played early on but happy with Lotro as my PvE mmo for now - reasonable titles
CO - not my style
Vanguard - if it ever goes ftp I'll be there
Playing: Darkfall New Dawn (and planning to play Fallout 76) Favourite games have included: UO, Lineage2, Darkfall, Lotro, Baldur's Gate, SSX, FF7 and yes the original Wizardry on an Apple IIe
Vanguard - Absolutely. Fun game at release, lasted me a good few months. I may give it a second whirl if it seems like others are giving it a chance too. It was a desolate wasteland the last time I looked in.
Champions - Awesome character creation, below average - average game. Honestly I could make heroes all day, and if they charged $5 for a standalone character creator, I'd probably pay for that and forget the game existed.
Fallen Earth - I did the 14 day trial for this game, and ended up rather unimpressed. I'm still not sure if it's because the game has a lack of quality, or if it's just not my style. I tend not to like grunge/dreary settings.
AoC - This was on my short list to give another chance until it went F2P. Unlike other people, I don't think games built for the subscription model should ever be F2P. I don't like Turbine's "pay for game content" policy at all.
Darkfall - I will never play this, ever, under any circumstances, despite my love of hardcore PvP simply because of Aventurine and Tasos Flambouras. Worst. Developer. Ever.
This is a good list for people that want to get into games years after launch. For me I only like tp join mmo near launch. That is when everyone is leveling up. Community and interacting is the best. Everyone trying to learn the game.
If I come in later I. Feel people are too far ahead of me. But, maybe I am just too competitive.
Especially Darkfall that is DEFINATETLY a game i'll be checking back on it is hands down the best mmo made for a very long time will be interesting to see what a small company like aventurine will be able to pull off in the 2.0!
I'm sorry but FE has no place on this list. Granted, I haven't played it in a long time because after the crap-tastic beta I decided it was a large turd, well behind today's MMO's graphically and in terms of gameplay. Even running was painfully slow. Again, it has no business being on this list.
I started playing Champions Online again, and meh, it's a lot of running around punching or shooting stuff. Not a lot of teamplay going on and I found the events lacklustre so I'm off it.
LOTRO is nice. I'm currently (and happily) playing RIFT. Great game and lots to do solo or in a group.
But as our re-review coming this month will attest to, the Saga of Heroes has come a long way in recent months and deserves much more attention than its getting.
Yes.
last time i try'd this game i sayd the following.......as long as SOE aint putting money in this game to develope more content and patches, i aint paying SOE to just let this game rot.
Vanguard is STIL one of the best i EVER played (nothing beats UO hehe) but SOE is milking their players without caring for this game.
5 Games that launched too soon to try and milk their community while finishing their product.
No thanks, I wont encourage any of these studios to try that business model again by buying their games. You want my money, release a quality product, dont expect me to give you a year of my cash on the promise of it being worth it later.
5. I've heard nothing but negative things about Vanguard from the get-go.
4. I'm currently playing Champions Online. LOVE the character customization, but there's too many issues to keep me subbed longer than a month. Game is too easy for Freeform characters, and if you are a F2P archtype, you are absolutely terrible in comparison. It's the definition of pay to win.
3. Not gonna lie. I'm intrigued. Will have to give it a go.
2. All I needed to read was "not allowed to equip epic weapons" as a free player. Pay-to-Win garbage. Pass.
1. Adventurine is planning on wiping every player character for 2.0. You *cannot* do that in an MMO. Not only will it drive vets away, but I'd never invest time into a character in an MMO with a company who has a full wipe under their belt.
5. I've heard nothing but negative things about Vanguard from the get-go. **AGREED**

If you are F2P, then maybe it simply takes a while longer to get the items (either due to need to grind faction/reputation OR perhaps it's a 'gated' process).

agree with most of what u say-was an alpha/beta tester w/FallenEarth not a bad game but not worth a sub to me.Since they went with Gamersfirst i have to say they went Down hill with customer service!-Gamerfirst is like Webzen with customer service-"we will respond to ur question only if we feel like it and not till then!". I feel bad for all the hard work put forth into FallenEarth i think they will b disappointed in GF.
FE used to be fun but gamersfirst sucks and combat changes makes combat boring in a lot of ways feels like a nge all over again to few skills to use now. AOC is fun for sure.
Always going back to Fallen Earth. I just can't find anything that has that dark open world feel. One of the better sandboxy titles out. Im still not sold on the combat changes tho.
"Never met a pack of humans that were any different. Look at the idiots that get elected every couple of years. You really consider those guys more mature than us? The only difference between us and them is, when they gank some noobs and take their stuff, the noobs actually die." - Madimorga
I have tried 3/5 on that list. I haven't tried DF or CO. DF doesn't interest me at all. Maybe I'll give CO a try one of these days because I really enjoyed CoH several years back and I like the whole superhero thing.
Only game on that list I would retry is VG. I liked it, but it never ran really well on my computer for whatever reason. I had a problem with things loading in really slowly, so I would run into an 'empty' area which was actually full of mobs and end up dying. The game is really good otherwise, though really low population. I played before the trial isle so can't comment what that is like. I do recommend it, and those who refuse to try it or give it a second look because it's an SOE game, well that's just silly in my opinion!
I do agree with those who say that paying a VG sub though is not really worth it since there is no new development.
AoC I found really lacklustre. The much vaunted combat system to me was pretty boring. At first I thought it was really cool, but it got annoying for me after a couple hours of play. I didn't like the quests that much either, nor the storylines. I was disappointed because I thought it would have more of a Dark Sun sort of harsh feel, but it seemed very saccharin to me for some reason. Was it an issue of the lighting or the plastic look of everything? I can't say. The environments are beautiful though.
FE I have tried to get into twice. I lasted all of two days the second time, which was better than the first which was for only a couple hours. I am not sure why, but it didn't hook me at all.
WOW!!! The list was horrible at best. Sorry, but all the games mentioned were launched too early, half-baked, and ruined by the players...with the exception of Vanguard.
For the love of god, I'm trying to forget the game. Now, you sparked my interest. So, I guess your job is done here. Thanks for the recurring nightmares...

I'd rather Allods online over champions anyday, just say'n.

Darkfall deserves to be on this list because it is the only decent harcore FPS mmo out there. This is not to say it is a great game. But is is unique.
