Why isnt MO on the list? Because its not popular, it's really that simple. Hows that "viral marketing" working out?
You can't measure popularity on forum posts or Darkfall would have more players than Wow.
DF is just more controversial while most MMO gamers havn't heard of MO. Of course that is not a great thing if you lobby the game for a "most" award.
I was kinda replying to this part of the thread :
" Many times a random game was bumped up to knock Mortal Online out of the 10th position. (For some reason Mortal Online seems to have a huge forum post count for the relatively small niche playerbase it has.) I don't think its a collective effort from the Darkfall community"
It is hardly the tenth most popular MMO out there, so no, there probably is not a conspiracy its simply the fact that there are a lot of games more popular than it.
I would say the fact it even made the top ten at any point is perhaps due to a concerted effort by its very small but vocal fanbase.

I'll buy that, thats why their so upset about getting bumped. I can't see MO having a legitimate place in the top 10.
Similarly, it's impossible to believe that Darkfall has a place in the Top 10, given that it's playerbase is about the same size or smaller than MO's, and that it has shown very little activitiy here in the last year.
That's the point of the thread you linked in the OP - some person or group of people was actively hit-spamming the DF site here to artificially make it appear much more popular than it is, as pathetic as that sounds. From 55K supposed hits on Saturday, to less than a thousand each of the next three consecutive days after they were caught cheating. That's a pretty solid indictment.
That's it, nothing more, and nothing less. Personally, I don't think it was a conspiracy against MO. More than likely, it was nothing more than a few from the DF community (or Aventurine) attempting to cheat on this website. Imagine that.

No really. You almost had a fair point, then I re-read the first sentence and your agenda shined through.

How did MO ever hit the top 10 Rohn? Darkfall has issues but the game works. I would play DF if there was a skillcap- It has great exploration - Its just not my game though (seriously its that stupid no skillcap that breaks the game for me) MO on the other hand...We have a whole forum worth of discussion that outlines the tale of MO from the begining. And SV cannot delete those threads.
So, How did MO ever hit the top 10? If so,and legit, I find it plausable that DF has more players than WOW.

Or someone figured out how to write a script that pinged a website and tried it out. Then forgot about it to go watch Sponge Bob.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Where did I say MO hit the Top 10? Did you even read the only post I made in the thread linked in the OP (which was the thread-starter)? I brought up the fact that someone was manipulating the hit counter for DF. That's it.

DF is just more controversial while most MMO gamers havn't heard of MO. Of course that is not a great thing if you lobby the game for a "most" award.
And this is what people need to remember "popularity" in this case isn't the same thing as the head cheerleader or captain of the football team popular it's controversy if you release steaming pile of poodoo onto your playerbase your game will make this list along with unreleased games.
From my experience watching that tab (which I admit is very little) the best and most stable games fall off and rarely return WOW makes sense to stay on because it has like 100 times more subs than any other game out but all the other stable release games I know of are never on this list so it's a bad measure for what people tend to try to think of it as.
DF and Mortal players don't look at your game being listed there as a good thing whether it is being artificially bumped up or not the only reason those games are excluded is because more than half the people who would like to be playing either game find themselves unable to because of the state the games are in.

And how would you know either game player base figures? What figures are you going by? Why does DFO have 4 times the posts/threads? Anyway...Havent most people stopped playing until DFO 2.0? (pending the wipe)
This type of thing has happened before, most recently DAOC which was also pointed out by a MO fan. Aren't the affected games popularity reset anyway?

Well, actually it may be the 10th most complained about, especially as some part of mysterious calculation quantifying complaints per customer. Popular though? Hmmmmm....
I would guess that activity produces ranking. Also my guess is that MO's activity on MMORPG.com is due in part to discussion of the games issues and assorted controversies.
Seldom a day goes by where there isn't something about MO on the homepage of MMORPG.com. If anything, it's free advertising and the posts help promote exposure of the game.
Given a drop off the top-10 list, maybe the posters are getting bored talking about MO. Nah, I doubt it.

There hasnt been much going on other than silence and speculation. Until today even the staunch defenders of MO have been absent from the conversation, thus its been a slow couple weeks around these parts.
I think of the phrase "Calm before the storm" and think its fitting. We just got a topic injection regarding the new patch. We should see a patch in another 3 weeks or so. I speculate something interesting will happen before the next patch.
i dont really see anyone poniting the finger at darkfall saying it has anything to do with MO fans except 1 or 2 people so why was this thread even made? when there is a perfectly legitimate thread in the darkfall section. The only time darkfall did not get into the top 10 was when the servers at darkfall hq were down for extended maintenance so their is a hint. But since you dont like darkfall hanoverz since its buggy and the devs lie to people why would you care?

How do I give MO the rating it deserves anyway?
-For real. How does this game get a 7/10. Thats like 2/3 of the way to a perfect game. Hard to hold much stock on ratings here after realizing this.
Darkall Forum = 196385 posts
Mortal Online Forum = 42542 posts
WoW Forum = 190163
So why all the finger pointing by MO fans?

I win!!! LOL@U
Yes, yes... everything is a conspiracy against MO!
A man is his own easiest dupe, for what he wishes to be true he generally believes to be true...
It would appear so: its "haters", its MMORPG.com mods, its the Media, its other games, its the reviewers and so on.
Psst: "It's the game!"
I win!!! LOL@U
