EVE Online: Finding a War in EVE Online

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

In his latest "One Jump Home" column, MMORPG.com's Ross McDermott, also a member of the Council of Stellar Management, has penned a new article about the adventure of finding war....and having a hard time doing it. Check out One Jump Home and then add your thoughts to the mix in the comments.

The technetium oligarchs built their shining homes on the backs of the humming plates of an orbital moon extractor. When the mineral shift came and the desire for technetium increased dramatically, they found their empires enriched even more than they were previously. In their grotesque arrogance they set about shaping the market to suit their own desires, controlling a precious resource that only they had access to. These were the economic foundations of the Northern Coalition. These were the minerals and resources that allowed them to grow fat, docile and indifferent to the threats at their doorstep.

Aslong as CCP doesn't change the 0.0-space into a more dynamic one and keep the sov-systems and moon-harvesting as it is, aslong there won't really be anything interesting.
The introduction of jumpbridges, jumpfreighters and the now available sheer amount of capitals doesn't help either.

EvE is a shadow of itself these days and the best and most fun time to play was back in 2005/06 imho.

I agree with the above comment. EVE is said to be the best sandbox out there currently - but it still has its' problems. Anyone playing the game for any length of time will tell you the same.

Space is supposed to be vast. Surprisingly - eve isn't. Going into 0.0 with anything bigger than a rifter is a mistake unless you live there. There's not really anywhere to "get lost" or "fly under the radar" as everyone shows up in a list as soon as they enter the system.

The amount of capital ships now being produced and flown keeps the small guys completely out of the picture in terms of running a corp in 0.0. The best you can maybe achieve is paying rent or - and this is dubious - joining a larger alliance that might accept your 10 man corp ass.

Making it 10x as big might help.. but that also has its' issues. Not really sure what the fix could end up being.

People forgot that NC was losing whole fleets of titans to node crashing a year and a half before the great PL I-Win fleet came. They gave up, said to hell with it, it wasnt worth it. EVE is old, the vets are tired.

Yeah, the North is dead.  The anom nerf hit the northern regions the hardest.  The NC did not fall apart because of arrogance.  It was time to move on.

Come down south Mr. TNT.  There is a raging war ongoing.  The Russians see fit to take control of entire the game.  Hopefully the SC nerf will come and that wont happen :D

    Yup.

Some people say it's dead. Some people say it's not dead. I say it's undead, with the introduction of a cash-shop it's fast becoming a blood-sucking vampire.

This has been the case for years. Peeps just sitting on thier moon mins, no reason to undock, sitting in thier stations.

Someone above said, eve is a shadow of what it was one, i agree. my main has been on eve since 2004. I would love to get back a slice of the cut and thrust of old small fleet warfare.

They need to make the moon minerals more dynamic and have them move round at random times. Due to mineral depletion or something.

The massive power blocks that are now in Eve hasn't changed for the past 4 years this is due to super caps being to powerful and everyman and his dog wants to hot drop you with carriers to kill battlecruisers.

Eve has a major problem with many 0.0 battles , it is almost always whoever brings the most capitals which of course is ridiculous.  Capitals without a bevy of support ships should be sitting ducks for a fleet that is better balanced.  But of course this will not get changed because many of the vets would howl, they just can't stand having to learn some tactics.

Supercap nerfs are on the way that will accomplish exactly what you are talking about. Alliances that depend solely on their supercap superiority are going to be decimated. The tears of the elite pvp alliances like PL will be delicious.

The first few drops have already been tasted, and yes, they are indeed delicious.

nice to have a CSM member promoting eve outside, as if CCP  doesnt spend enough already

just wondering if your job ist to read players suggestions on the forums, because no memeber of the CSM ever replies to ideas

all you guys do is make sure 0.0 space is good for you guys making money in big alliances.

how is the 170+  bugs list  going Dermott?

any news when CSM will give a damn about the high sec players?

This perception that 'CSM is only 0.0' is factually false.

A bug impacts all EVE players so it is in the interest of all CSM members to get it fixed.

The wide ranging news articles hitting the web by the chairman 'The Mittani' is trying to get CCP back into investing into EVE. Rather than spend it on WoD/DUST. This is a good thing for all EVE players, whether it is high-sec or 0.0
