What has Trion done?

watchawatchawatchawatcha Member Posts: 960

There has been a lot of misunderstanding and speculation about Trion's response to subscribers questions and concerns.

It was suggested that a new thread was created.  I think that this discussion has some value, so I created a new thread for it.

I will list a few here and others can chime in to build on that if they wish.  This list will no way be complete.

About 6 months after release Trion has had four (4) major updates.  With those updates additional tweaks (hotfixes) has been a weekly basis.  This places almost 30 significant changes/improvements the development team has done, since launch.  The first month saw quite a few hotfixes, so the addtional numbers  could be more than 30.

Let's start with the reduction of shards.

Trion went with a more modern up-to-date way of delivering their product.  The digital sale distribution.  Unfortunately for them, the third party distributors weren't on the ball with code deliveries to subscribers - nor quickly forthcoming with number of sales.  Trion upon headstart was caught a little flat-footed.  Now, they've dealt with a mass number of people flooding their game before because of the Beta 1 fiasco that started the Rift Hating Core to go full swing.  Besides the usual comparisons of this skill looks like that skill from WoW, there was also too many people trapped in one zone.  Quests were overloaded and Rifts closed instantly from the amount of people doing them.  All of a sudden it appeared like the system wasn't going to work.  Of course they spawned invasions manually during the rest of the weekend so we got a taste of the system, but first impressions are first impressions for some.  The spawning of invasions on the next day is a direct response that Trion did because of the posting on their forums about not seeing the 'dynamic' part of their content.

When launch came, so came massive queues.  Trion responded to this to allow for more people to play at once by opening up more shards.  The reason for this was because of what I listed before (the mass overcrowding in the starting zones.)  Once people leveled up and moved out of the zones, more people could join the same shard and queues dropped.  As population balanced out, people could transfer to other shards and reduce total number of shards from launch.

PvP Wardstones

At first all Wardstones could be attacked.  The PvPers out there were very upset about this and wanted to be able to attack the opposite factions wardstones.  Trion responded and PvP shards would still be able to attack the wardstones, PvE could not.

Soul System Tweaks

New combinations created some imbalance that was addressed almost immediately.  FOTM constantly changed due to Trion's constent effort to insure that while some combinations would be better under certain situations, nothing was too dominate.  This is something they are still looking at 6 months out.

Everyone gets a mount - sort of

Because of the third party code snafu at launch - Trion allowed anyone with a headstart code to get a mount since they couldn't verify people whom did or didn't get the CE.  After March 1st, those players had to type in the code from their box copy to keep the mount.

Veterans' get a beta key

Before Beta keys were like water, Trion (from an online petition from the fans) gave out beta keys for the early betas to Vets whom posted a pick of something Rift related with something Vet related.

Reduction of mob density and elimination of exposed mechanic

Due to popular demand the mob density and exposed mechanic were removed to allow for players to get around the world a little easier and stop getting so annoyed.

Experts are hard

Keeping in line with the more hardcore players, Experts were challenging and tuned for a more progression orientated guild.

Experts are easy - kind of

Major nerfs come into experts to allow that content to be more accessible

Old Experts are the new Masters

Another version of the Expert dungeons allow more difficulty with a couple new bosses and varied trash pulls that will rely more heavily on support.  This is in direct response to the feedback of experts should be hard again.

AA system

Direct response from Trion to those that want a leveling curve after fifty to further detail and refine their characters.

Chronicle System

Direct response from Trion for those that want something to do in a solo/lore aspect at 50.

Bigger World

Two new zones coming by the end of this year.  One was always planned and not ready for launch.  The other (Ember Isle) is new.

Slivers

Absolutely direct response from the 10 man groups wanting Raid content that was previously removed.  Originally the Raid content for 20 mans was supposed to scale to 10 man content.  Trion found this process problematic and Slivers was their solution.

Varied Rifts

Two new teams devoted to Rifts and Invasions/Zone events started in April directly due to feedback.

LFG Tool

Exists solely because of the user feedback from Beta and 1st month of launch.

Crafting updates / crafting better gear

Long cooldowns and better gear with mat changes all due to feedback to Trion.

More lore

Chronicles is on the way (PTS now) and Water Saga quest chain came in 1.4

More Raids

GP, Drowned Halls, Hammerknell, River of Souls were all implemented after launch.  A new 10 man sliver is on the way.

Ancient Wardstone mechanic dies/PvP Rifts are born

Due to player feedback, Ancient wardstones has been elimanted and PvP Rifts born.  Further work being done on Open world PvP.

I get what you're saying, but for example.

The sab was able to nuke people at launch.  Basically, I would load 5 charges and if it crited all 5 charges would crit for an insane amount of damage.  They changed it for a chance to crit separately per charge.

Coincidently, the sabdancer is the king DPS right now and it's a challenging rotation to get off properly.  I haven't heard of any move to nerf that combo...yet.

I heard you can macro multiple abilities behind one keystroke. So effectively you can mash one or two buttons and do ok in PvP. That takes talent, for sure, right?

Not the condensed everyone yet never really lost any players.

They've actually gained 500% of their customers.

trion as i see it has taken what could have been a good game and ruined it the crafting is not worth the time and effort with the lack of plaques and ingame cost for items so you can craft, doing dailies hardly pays for the cost of materials.   from beta to now they have way overpopulated the server we are on.

This game is actually pretty good.  Was in beta and while everyone else was saying how great it was I was.. unenthused.  It wasn't bad.. had a lot of great refinements and such but it wasn't all that exciting.  Now?  The very speed they get things out (while not always polished perfectly) is amazing.  You can almost measure the value of your monthly sub.  I've played many other games and the average update time is about once every three months.  They might not even be all that exciting... but I've yet to find an update for rift that hasn't raised my interest.

I'm still shocked they can do this as fast as they do.  I'm just tired of waiting months.. or years(looks to Aion's vision trailer) for new stuff to play with.  I'm not pretending that everything is out of this world within the game but Trion knows how to treat it's customers.  That's worth a lot in my book.  While I see myself taking breaks from this game for others(I don't marry games) I also see myself coming back again and again as they add to it.  They probably will make quite a bit out of me in the long run.

"Due to popular demand the mob density and exposed mechanic were removed to allow for players to get around the world a little easier and stop getting so annoyed."

what he really meant to say was ...

becasue a large % of our remaining playerbase are emo 13 year old tards.

    ^^^^^^

Poster above me is a great example ofthe type of player mmos dont need.

Hes become interested inthe game becasue they keep changing it.     MMORPGS are supposed to be about a virtual world that changes becasue of what the players do in that world, not becasue the developers have to come along and make the game more interesting, easier etc etc for the players.
