    Power outage verified.

Why would a company this big not have power generators for the game servers? I mean my local food store has back up power I do realize this would take more power, but I also understand we are talking about sony I mean they crap money.

What are they going to connect to? The other internet backbones with generators running? Get real.

By George game companies need to build their own nuclear powerplants behind the studios in order to keep the servers always running.  If there's a global apocolypse those servers better be going anyways!

Seriously folks this is totally understandable by any reasonable person, and its totally out of their hands.  They're probably not having a lot of fun with it either.  Stop feeling sorry for yourselves and start feeling sorry for them.  They're the ones really having to suffer the mess.

Yes lets all have a moment of silence for the ppl working at Sony who are doing the job they are paid to do.

Im sure those SOE employees are working hard trying to get the local power plant/system to work agian. Sent them to washinton next to fix the national  budget next?

Well I did not think anyone could mess up the budget worse then the ppl we put into office, but if you give Sony a chance ya they might be able to mess that up too :)

I just called a friend of mine who lives in SD.  The ISP's are still down.  MAybe you should wonder why they don't have backups either?  But I bet Albertson's grovecy store has been operating with no issues.  Oh and Wal Mart was closed.  But the worlds largest retailer certainly must have thought of that?  Oh, and they posted nothing on their site.

After reading these pages of whining about how Sony should have backup of backup of backup  plans in place and how horrible a company they are because they are not online when over **one million people are without power**.......

    Geez people....

There are some people here who really need to get a life......

Trolly system down, airport closed, nuclear reactors offline.  According to gekkothegrey above though its all SOE's fault.

Well, they were the ones responsible for the NGE.  it's only logical then to assume they were also responsible for the outages and that they will most likely be responsible for the end of the world in 2012.

I live in San Diego, CA.  Power came back on in my area very recently, at around 2:30 am local time.  They could be putting power on by areas gradually, seeing if the power grid can take the load (huh) but that's just a wild guess.

I love a good witch hunt.  Get the torches and pitchforks!

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

i'm not the biggest fan of SoE, but the only power backup i would expect them to have would be twofold:

    1. to allow developers to backup their work

    and more importantly,

    2. allow employees to exit the building safely

now, if they had more i would expect it to be purely for their own building and staff, ie., power for lights and environment control, *not* for their games. gimme a break.

    -----edit

as of 6.30am EST SoE still down.

My god reading the comments here I feel sorry for SOE. You guys are totally nuts about your hatred.  Some of you need therapy.

  • SulaaSulaa Member UncommonPosts: 1,329

Yeah I am not a fan of SOE , but in this case when whole region is without electricity it is kind of dumb to blame SOE becasue frigging power plant is not working.

Really get a bit of common sense.

According to the LA Times newspaper, the outage may have been caused by operator error in Arizona.

an Arizona power company admitted as much yesterday. however, they said they had no idea how the outage spread so far.

LOL some of these comments are just stupid.. how stupid can people get..

If hole states lost power and also parts of mexico how the hell do you expect SOE to keep their servers up and the rest of the internet hubs in those areas ? Yes they will have backup generators but guess what they will only use them long enough to save all the info on the servers and shut them down.. all they would need if the backup generators to fail and pop goes the servers and god knows what information could get corrupted.. You then have to think about health and safty issues for the workers without power is the enviroment they work in going to be safe.. i believe there is a big heat wave at the moment in that part of the US so no its probally not safe.. so many factors come into it..

I just cant believe people are on here blaming SOE..
