Collectively speaking, I've probably played WoW for about two or two and a half years over various stops and starts. It's really the best themepark MMO out right now. Every time I get bored with WoW I always keep bouncing around from game to game trying to find something to replace it until I eventually end up running back to WoW with my tail between my legs.
I've tried em all. I've tried EQ2 (actually had a max level character in that before I reached the cap in WoW), Aion, WAR, LotRO, Rift (only game I've hit max level in since WoW), Lineage II, City of Heroes, Guild Wars (another game that I had a max level character in before WoW), Champions Online, Star Trek Online, Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy XIV, etc. None of those games have kept my interest for more than a couple months.
The graphics in the videos look quite bad. They must be doing something right to be having so many customers, but I think I will never be one of them with poor graphics like these. I might give the trial a go and see if the gameplay is that good that it will make me turn a blind eye, but I really don't have high hopes. Ventured into this area on the forums with the post on the Tier 13 Warlock armor. Sorry, I don't mean to upset the fans, the cinematic trailers are quite sensational, but the in-game graphics...pffff, they almost make Allods look like Sci-Fi and let LoTRO look really quite good.
Waiting for Guild Wars 2, and maybe SWTOR until that time...
It's the most fun I've had in an MMO. I was a huge fan of Warcraft 2 and 3 as well as Diablo 2. At that time Blizzard could do no wrong in my eyes. Now, I only play for a couple of months when an expansion hits as I'm no longer interested in the gear chase and hate what Arenas did to PvP.
I refused to play UO based simply on their horrible and buggy launch. I let friends try it first and they saved me some money.
I refused to play EQ based on the laughably horrible graphics engine and the idiotic time and group commitments required.
I refused to play SWG because it lacked space combat on release and the random nature of becoming a jedi.
I tried EQ2 and quit after a week. Terrible graphics and combat.
LOTRO is the only other MMO to keep me until the level cap. I ended up buying a lifetime subscription because it's a decent game to pick up every now and then.
The first MMO to get me excited, since WOW, is Guild Wars 2. SW:TOR is too similar to WOW to garner my interest and it also has space combat as a minigame only.
Never played WoW. It's never held any interest for me as I do not like the fantasy setting. Far too many games out there with elves and orcs and such. Never played EQ or EQ2 either. LOTRO is the only fantasy game I play and that's because I like the books/movies. I'm a sci-fi guy, which means I don't play too many MMO's.
