I am kinda tired of run of the mill games. So if possible i wanna try and find a sandbox mmo. I figure its worth a shot to try and cure my crave.

Ive tried Mortal Online, Darkfall, and Wurm.
Mortal was my favorite. Played it for 7 months.
There are no new sandbox games and it does not seem to be any in near future.
I miss the years 1999-2003 when Asherons Call was in it best years.
My gaming blog
I wish there was a good one around but I don't think there is at the moment (with EVE being a sort of an exception if you're into that sort of thing). Keeping my own hopes up that something good comes out of GW2, AE, TSW (well...). In the meanwhile I'm resorted to FPS's and First Life to keep myself succumbing to utter boredom...
Try Ryzom...probably the best Sandbox going right now.
You can play for free up to level 125 (skill level).

Link Realms is the only real one I see.
I'm in Open Beta right now. The game still needs a ton of work. It's skill based and the whole system needs a huge and total revamp, but the Devs aren't willing to do it for whatever reason (laziness?). Regardless, the player created areas and zones seems absolutely awesome.
I'm still waiting myself. I sometimes play single player games like Fallout and Oblivion during the wait but nothing yet. Star Wars Galaxies was the last one to die although it really died after the NGE when it began to pull the Sandbox elements in favor of WoW elements. Best I can suggest is maybe getting Skyrim when it comes out and watch the boards before you heavily invest yourself in a MMO. Playing a bad sandbox MMO game is likely just going to turn you off to MMOs more and maybe make ya bitter.
Im looking at WURM at the moment but dont have high expectiations. I really need a mmo to hold me in till GW2 comes out so i can try it then.

Wurm is unlike anything i've ever played in the MMO space...and I've played almost all of them over the last 14 years. I'm really enjoying it now that I understand it
Joined 2004 - I can't believe I've been a MMORPG.com member for 20 years! Get off my lawn!
I'm a UO vet, turned SWG refugee, turned Wurmian. (though I no longer play)
I question whether I spent more time in SWG or Wurm, both lasted me about 2 years, and I will vouch that Wurm is an absolutely brilliant game - if you have the patience to learn a game with as steep a learning curve as say, EVE. They are not at all similar, beyond getting used to dropdown menus, but there are things to learn and figure out years down the line. Deep as nails.
~But really, it's a game for artists. I've made countless settlements with and for friends, and some of my own works were marvels the server respected. Being creative is important though, or else you will get bored and say "there is nothing to do!". In which case I would shout back "made an island or mountain yet?!". I never ran out of ideas in that game, so I thrived. If you can see yourself logging in only to milk the cows, then you're gonna have a problem.
Best advice is to use kingdom-chat and work with other people. I've done it solo for a long time before and after doing it with others, and there is no comparison. It's amazing.
