Anyone know the development cost of this game?

Id like to get an idea of what Funcom needs for this game to steer clear of the oh shit button and go f2p/p2w like AoC.

Im hoping if TSW can hold 200k subs it can rest easy keeping its cash shop strictly fluff for the long term. But thats just a guestimate.

I think you're getting wrong impression here.

Decision if / how many /how quick advantage items will be placed in store will be decided after Funcom estimation if that will bring more money for them or not. If they will have some valid assumptions that doing this will make too much player to leave and increased revenue from putting advantage items will be not enough to justify this decision they won't put it into CS.

On the other hand if they have some estimations to suport theory that most people eventually won't be angry enough to leave TSW becasue of putting this things into store then they will put it in it.

Look WoW , they did ut CS into a game after 6 years , not becasue they did not covered their developemnt and other costs obviously , but because they could get away with that and earn more money.

Same thing with f2p/p2w they will do this as soon as they will decide that it will bring them more cash , having paid development cost or not is not most important thing here.

    /tinfoil hat on

Some might say that they do plan this from beggining. Release as P2P game , get alot of money from box sales , then steady cash flow from subscription and get playerbase used to cash shop by putting it in game from day 1 , and then convert to f2p/freemium model after a year or so.

Much more profitable than releasing as a f2p from beggining.

I think they will have adventurepacks/expantions you need to by as they did with AoC this month.(not huge expantion, but smaler adventuerpacks like EVE and othe mmorpgs have. This, moving charracters, changing names and the fluff items will give them with the monthly fees alot of money. Sow there is no reason for them to starting to sell advantage items any timw soon. 200k player ore sow will be more than what they need to float the game.

Seems FC will be having almost as much people byt the end of the year in Montreal alone as they did have for the entirety of their offices at the time AoC was about to be launched.
