Turbine finally announces TP prices for Isengard

trancejeremytrancejeremy Member UncommonPosts: 1,222

We’re happy to announce that you will be able to purchase and experience Isengard on DAY ONE by purchasing its components from the LOTRO Store using Turbine Points.

The break down below shows you what features will cost and when they will be available. Please be aware that the store doesn’t allow for a ‘pre-purchase’ option so the Expansion instances cannot actually be purchased until they are released as part of Update 5. This is also why they’re not included in any of the bundles listed below.

Isengard Expansion Quests

Available in the LOTRO Store September 27 (Isengard Launch) for 3250 Turbine Points

Over 375 Quests and more than 40 Deeds for characters level 66-75 in the following regions

  • Dunland -- Adventure amidst the bright forests in the foothills of the southern Misty Mountains. Beware the Dunland Clans, rugged warriors tempted by the dark promise of power.

  • Gap of Rohan -- Battle over the legendary pass between Eriador and the plane of Rohan. This key strategic point must be defended against the ambitions of Sauron.

  • Isengard -- Explore Orthanc, one of the iconic Two Towers as it rises over the once beautiful Isengard valley. The once beautiful vale now desecrated beyond imagination by the Wizard Saruman the betrayer.

Raid: Draigoch’s Lair

Available in the LOTRO Store September 27 (Isengard Launch) for 1250 Turbine Points

  • Face the ancient evil of Draigoch, one of the most powerful creatures in Middle-earth! Prepare for the ultimate challenge where nothing less than the strength of an entire force of 24 heroes stands the chance of victory

Derudh’s Stone

Available in the LOTRO Store September 27 (Isengard Launch) for 995 Turbine Points

A permanent pocket item that grants +25% XP on Monster Kills when equipped. This item binds to the purchasing character. Usable by characters level 1-64.

Expansion Instances

Available with Update 5, currently slated for December, for 1495 Turbine Points

  • One 12-player instance

  • One 6-player instance

  • Three 3-player instances

So basically just under 6000 TP if you want everything...plus 1000 for the xp thingie

So if I preordered the game, do I still have to buy the instances from Update 5?

Its nice that the raid is separate, cause I'd never do it, but seriously $32.50 for the base expansion, then another $15 for the instances, and $10 for the XP Stone.   Thats quite a bit more expensive if you don't pre-order...

    Yep.

Turbine has a way of creating messes for themselves to try and clean up.  First it was selling lifetime subscriptions.  I'm pretty sure at this point they consider it a mistake.

The second mistake was giving out free TP to VIPs and allowing you to earn them in game.  That's fine except that they also sell TPs for cash.  It's those people who will never get an equal value when it comes to expansions.  The good news is those people are now well informed as to how Turbine plans to run LOTRO.

As a lifer I can't complain about the point cost.  But I sympathize with people who purchased points in good faith.  They may actually have a legal action available to them.

I don't think it was really a mistake, Turbine needed cash in the days before WB bought them, and lifetime subs were one way to get it.

I think it's more a case of having your cake and eating it too. Especially now that they are owned by WB and cash is presumably no longer so important to keep the company going.

I think they've screwed up making it a la carte like that. I was expecting 4-5k points for the whole thing, but this, this lets people just buy the quests for 3250. How many people actually raid in this game? Not a lot, not for a 24 man one.

But if I'm wrong, this is also a way of raiders putting their money where the mouth is. If it sells really well, it tell Turbine to make more raids like that.

In general, I am not a friend of the whole F2P change, but in my opinion, the point for the expansion costs are fine.

One year VIP stipend just gives you enough points to buy the expansion. That sounds about ok.

Those who want to spend money on it, can get it for 30$ in the store. Also fine.

Handing out TPs for free to VIPs and give players a method to earn them in game is also fine, because it prevents a strong gap between players, who can (or want) to pay cash for advancement, and those who don't.

They just should have been more communicative during the past few months.

How does this effect the folks who bought the life-time subscription?

I was wondering the same. I think we (I have a limfe-time sub too) have to buy the expansions as well. Now I don't rly mind for it since I'm no longer (actively) playing LotRo and have over 8K TP right now, but I can imagine a lot of life-timers gavings pend some TP already and now are short...

That point of view ignores the people that bought the points for cash.  Maybe Turbine shouldn't have misled people into thinking they would get fair value when they bought the points.

I didn't ignore that problem. Hence I wrote the last sentence.

What do you mean by "fair value" for the points?  (not trying to troll your point, I'm just not sure what you mean).

  • TeiraaTeiraa Member UncommonPosts: 447

In my opinion, the price of RoI in TP is fair, insofar it corresponds to what a VIP or lifetimer gets as stipend per year (6000 points).

However, I should add, it is not fair to those who bought points for cash during the last few months in hope of spending it on the expansion.

To avoid this problem, Turbine should have announced the point price well in advance of the expansion (not just a few weeks).

If I paid cash for points, I'd want $30 worth of points I bought to buy me what someone else could get for $30 cash.  That's a fair value for people that bought points.  Turbine created a system where people that buy points are screwed when it comes to the expansion.

I didn't buy points as I'm a lifer, and so it doesn't affect me.  Although I'm sure there are lifers out there that spent their free points already and may have purchased more in anticipation of the expansion.

Not only this, but turbine had a big sale on points right before announcing the preorder would be cash only.  Pretty crummy thing in my opinion.  At this point anyone that has bought points know where they stand.  Turbine really did a crummy job of communicating how this expansion would go down and how points would be useless on preorders.

They are charging customers paying by TP extra because they didn't get the instances done by release. Bloody brilliant move.

  • cagancagan Member UncommonPosts: 445

I was planning to buy this with my saved up TP but now I have to pay extra for the raid and instances? Really?

I bought around 2k TP from store and they are almost completely useless now. I can grind some deeds and maybe buy the quest pack...

And december they will release the instances? Instead of buying more TP i am planning to save up for GW2 and Skyrim...and maybe TOR the wow clone

I dont think the expansion is going to be good enough to compete with all the big titles releasing soon. The land of free people will be once again deserted...

  • leojreimrocleojreimroc Member UncommonPosts: 371

This seems pretty expensive to me.  Most zones are like 700 points and they all include the zone quests + instances.  3 X 700 = 2100.  I'm not sure what you're really getting for that extra 1k points.  In this "expansion", you're just getting 3 zones for 3200, 1k more than what would be the general quest pack price, with no instances.

That said, I will probably eventually buy it, but only next year after SWTOR and all the other major games come out and we see these quest pack drop get much, much cheaper.

  • AthcearAthcear Member Posts: 420

Glad I pre-ordered.  Having to pay even more for those instances... that would suck.  30 bucks for 3 zones, 5 instances, and a raid... not bad.

    Important facts:
    1. Free to Play games are poorly made.
    2. Casuals are not all idiots, but idiots call themselves casuals.
    3. Great solo and group content are not mutually exclusive, but they suffer when one is shoved into the mold of the other. The same is true of PvP and PvE.
    4. Community is more important than you think.

It's not a mistake. I am a lifetime subscriber and when I have money I enjoy to buy some points on discount to pimp my account. I think it is good toreward those that play the game early enough.

As a lifetimer I could easily get everything for free though.

Secondly this game is cheap as fuck. Good graphics, loads of content on the way up and an awesomely nice community. What more would you want for a low subscriber price?

Just bought the expansion & raid from the TP's I've had because I'm a life-timer (not actively playing now though). Spend a total of 4500 TP for the 2 packs, and still have around the same amount of TP left (only bought horse-riding for a few chars on level 5 becaus eI have a mount from Moria at level 1 already).

Perhaps it's time to pickup LotRo again and move my lowbee warden through Moria and check out the new content after that. I never had a char over 60 in LotRo :p
