You sound lik you should play Dark and Light.

Fair enough, it's not out yet, but I think it will beat the pants off of everything when it's released.

Single server; 40,000 sq km world, flying, underwater regions, massive scope for role-playing. semi-open pvp where it's dark vs light (duh), good crafting system

my only gripe with it is, that it has a lvl based system. but i can live with that. the rest of the amazing features. it will have live events too

hell, just check out the website www.darkandlight.net and read the faq.

Single server will never work...by what Ive heard of DnL as it is, has problems holding more than 2000 in their server...eve online works because its all black emptiness with just a little loading on your screen same time.

Irth Online will have many server types from hardcore roleplay to hardcore pvp with perma death as option.

Irth Online has world of same size, completely hand made not completely computer generated like DnL, irth online will have flying as well, underwater regions, well...you beat me on that one, massive scope for roleplaying...any UO veteran can tell you there's no such thing as massive scope for roleplaying in level based games...In Irth there is NO safe zones, not one single one...only limit is the civilisation you are in...good crafting system? I'll believe in good LEVEL BASED crafting system when I see one ::::28::

Irth Online gives you something new...in DnL you will just be grinding 6 hours a day just to be able to group with your friend...DnL is good but I want more from my games than mindless grinding...in skill based game you can group with anybody you want, you can be what ever you want...no classes and no level caps to hinder you!

Ok so, this is probably the new Ultima Online 2...that never came out except this one is....

But why does MMORPG not support the game much, and why is the hype level so low..I have heard some pretty negative things about the devs too, but maybe they got angry that they were not given a chance to properly get the game going well...I mean it is a beta not a demo ....you are meant to expect every possible bug and problem that belongs to a game in beta...not find it perfect or close to that at all!

Anyway I will keep my eye on this game, I have been looking for a game for 11 months and this maybe it, since its similar to Ultima.

BTW its not entirely like DnL...DnL is not Open PvP like Irth, its just Light Vs Dark like WoW except there is a conquest system where they can take eachother's territories which is cool but the lvling based system isnt my cup of tea and its not comming out for another 4 months or so.

The game seems pretty early in it's development cycle, to me. Little things, like players not actually grasping the weapons they have equipped. Inconsistencies in the level of detail in textures, lighting, etc. between screenshots. That's probably why it's not hyped very much.

I'm signing up for beta. We'll see how this goes.

Listen Asmodeeus, seven years ago, Ultima Online didn't even have those pathetic "quests" that you refer to or those "professions" of ninja, samurai, necromancer, and paladin. Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along. - Crabby

There is many things, Biggest being that 50% didnt take time to read the forums and was expecting to have game just like every other they have plaid and getting lost and frustraded. Irths main thing is features, some players main thing was graphics (*kick kick* Back to lineage2 you!), some were frustraded that their 1ghz pentium3, 128mb sdram memory, 64mb geforce MX wasn't supported.

Magic Hat Software did start a gamble and opened the game for public testing 1 year after first alpha had came out with intentions to get playerbase involved from early on. Most ignored this fact, didn't read the announcements from forums or simply got confused about the false release date reported in mmorpg.com that devs has stated to be false about 70 times.

All in All Magic Hat Software did nice gesture and opened the game for public from early on just to have it backfire on them.

They are working like nuts, the lead dev is up taking reports from players and just listening to playerbase on their irc channel every day and usually logs out just about 3am just to return 8am.

They have worked hard to fix all the things that people have complained of and the game has taken big steps from where it was.

These people have done amazing things with quite small budget and 15 people.

  • Mikey0114Mikey0114 Member Posts: 310

Yeah OK....I get what your saying...anyway glad the date wasn't now, that means that they still can fix everything so it runs smoother. I just hate the way people say that they hate the game cause of performance problems...No real ingame feature issues like they hate the combat system or something like that....its all about performance problems and its silly cause its a beta...if the game hasn't been released...give them time.

Anyway can anyone tell me if there will be a signup for another beta since I think I missed this last one :(

I got accepted a few weeks back, but did not have the time nor patience for the download. I think what I have read looks promising, post holiday I will revisit the download and give it a go!

It will continue untill developers feel the game is ready for release...

Now these devs are people you can love :)

Atleast they have a massive beta test running while the game is still in development...well testing developement I would assume, and so maybe they can get good feedback on what problems exist and how many they can be fixed! Atleast thats how things are in Horizons at the moment. That game was ok but the lack of PvP nearly made me fall asleep :(....Still great game but this sounds more my type :)

I like the sound of Irth, but it just hasn't really grabbed my attention.

I'm not usually one to care about graphics, but I have really been put off by the graphics for Irth, just like I was for Roma Victor. They just look rushed, and lazily put together, so I figure if the graphics give me that impression, the game itself will probably have the same feeling.

I would have to disagree with you though, I think that the single server is the way forward. Espescially for role-playing, storyline, and quests. It's much easier to co-ordinate a story, or a live event when everyone is on the same server.
It worked for Wish (unfortunatley cancelled) and they could happily fit thousands of players on their server. The first few days were laggy, and I got booted a lot, but after a week of open beta, the server was much more stable, and a lot less laggy.

the graphic issue has been noted by devs and tons of changes has been done according to player feedback...what you see in screenshots is about 25% of what you see in game nowadays.

  • Mikey0114Mikey0114 Member Posts: 310

Well you know I heard those screenshots are 20 patches old....Can you imagine how much more different the game is by now after that many patches?...Anyway just so you make sure you know what you are missing I urge you to try the open beta of this game which is carrying on untill its release which isn't even official or anytime soon probably!

https://www.irthonline.com/betasignup2.aspx - sign up and wait for the email reply back to let you play

Then either download client from the homepage or else Fileplanet has it too.

By the way, I have seen the graphics of DnL and I would say 10/10 for everything (scenery landscapes the views blah blah blah even the environment, the seasons, the effects. Then you see the character models, really hopeless models except for the humans...I hate the dwarves character model for instance...he looks more like a hairy hobbit! Also I hate the clothes and armours and quite a few people have agreed that there has been a real bad job done on armours so you can say even DnL has some bad things about it. Anyway I dont hate the game because of the character models I just find them attrocious, and I don't fully trust the devs about the game handling 10s of thousands on their server. They even stated it requires ADSL or Cable because of the large amounts of data that are transfered all the time to everyone client from server. Well we will see when they attempt the open stress tests to see how the server will handle probably over 10,000 people.

I am one of the IrthHelpers, if you ever get into the IRC room for Irth Online I will more than likely be there to answer any questions I can that are not covered by the NDA :) Please come in, help them test the game. They are very open to suggestions, even to the point where they have a Suggestion forum for Testers to post features they'd like to see implemented. Good luck! :)

I don't like how they claim to be making a 'virtual world' when they include flawed concepts like:
    *Non PVP areas.
    *No Death.
*Instant quests (click NPC for a quest).
    *Instant healing (potions and spells).
    *Auto targetting.
    *Auto attack your target.
    *In game chat.
*Respawning creatures with hovering names above their heads.

This game is not a 'virtual world' by any means, it is merely a mmorpg. It is a step up from WoW and EQ2 however, which is always a good thing. I do like a lot of this games features, but since I prefer virtual worlds I will not be playing this game.

The Cricket Player says his cup is definately full. Everyone knows that Pamela Andersons cups are full. The Defendant says it was like that when he found it. In truth it is a game taking after Ultima Online m8! This game is for hardcore gamers....the ones who loved Ultima Online or Wish especially!

I have been playing Irth open beta and its great! The game keeps getting better and better. I suggest people who love UO style games to give it a try. Remember its a beta and isn't going to stay the state its in. If you have graphics problems, try adjusting. I updated my drivers and it helped me. Also the forums are very helpful so if you have probs ask :)

And if you want extra info (no noobie questions plz!) visit the channel of Irth Online....There are even the devs who communicate with us and help ppl out with things that are new in the game (through a patch)...This game is all you need from UO, with a great community and great developers, graphics which aren't bad....and much much more!

I'm not so sure about that, Mikey.  I've talked to lots of people on the IO boards who have no intention of PvPing, and they really don't have to.  You can be an Avarian which is a member of a civilization which is immune to PvP attack.  The Avarians have something like a biological doomsday weapon which the other 3 civilizations fear.  So, yes, most people in the game will PvP in the context of three warring civilizations (RvR).  But the Avarian players can focus on crafting, trade, diplomacy, and the standard PvE content.

Some have compared IO to D&L.  It's a bit hard to compare two unfinished products but I'll outline the differences which currently make me prefer IO to D&L:

    1)  D&L will allow "neutral" alignment which allows a player to attack anyone at all regardless of allignment.  Many people on the boards cheered this decision because it will allow them to kill people without worrying about restrictions like alignment, lore, or story events.  I have no interest in random killing or the people who enjoy it.  In IO you will only be able to kill people from an enemy civilization.  I like RvR, not fully open PvP.  (You may disagree but let's not divert this thread into a discussion about which is the best type of PvP.  The point is one of these two games should satisfy your PvP desires.)

    2)  By having only one server D&L will not be able to cater to conflicting play styles by offering special servers.  IO promises at least 3 servers: regular, RP, and hard core RP.  The devs also express a willingness to consider other special servers.  To me that is more important than "big events".  I have experience single-server events in EVE Online and was not impressed.

    3)  IO is being develped by people for whom English seems to be the native language.  D&L is not.  I have played SoR and found the French-to-English translations to be sorely lacking.  I have nothing against the French and I wish I could speak their beautiful language but I can't.  I've heard comments from more than one D&L beta tester that all serious discussion in the beta forums is in French (although I can't confirm that as I'm not in the D&L beta).  I actually enjoy playing with people from other countries so long as we can use a common language.  But I suspect that many D&L players have no intention of allowing English to be that common language whatever the devs intentions may be.

As these games continue to change and develop I might change my mind but right now IO seems to be a much more attractive game to me than D&L.

Yeah Angus you are entirely right about the PvP, its mainly RvR  between 3 civilisations, and the Avarians are a nuetral non-pvp civilisation which is good for the full time crafters and traders....but they are a peaceful race, not one with a dooms day device lol :P

Avairans are neutral with all the other civilisations because they hold the cure to the plague that killed practically everything in the world. And I think they share it with the other civs so they are in all 3 other civ's good books :P

Well, I tried this game out on the Pegasus server. It still needs a lot of work. I didn't find any way to submit bug reports so I just gave up on the game after a while. The only thing I really liked about this game was the horse I found in the wilderness and was able to mount and ride off on.

However, at one point when I would strafe with my horse while wielding a broadsword, my broadsword would float independently of my hand and was floating in my horse's rearend and also floated from side to side. I tried attacking a wolf on my horse, but as soon as I did, my character stood on the side of the horse opposite of the wolf (as if his feet were glued to its side) and started attacking the wolf. Then the horse ran away and the combat returned to normal. But even the normal combat isn't too great in this game.

I attacked a minor zombie to begin with and my animations were a little bit off and the zombie didn't even have to move or do anything to hit me but just be close to me. The lag was another problem. I don't know if the server I chose was a foreign one or what, but I certainly had lag issues while I played on it. Only one other person was in town besides me and it was incredibly laggy.

I also bought some padded cloth armor, but I soon dropped it because my shirt and pants looked cooler. I bought a longsword to begin with too, but I didn't have enough strength to wield it. Also, I had to reset some of the keys to more appropriately fit my own tastes. One example of this is that the default key for jump is 'a'... 'A'?? To strafe (I think) you hit 'q' or 'w'. I changed this to 'a' and 'd'.

I also found out that when my health dropped to zero I could still walk around. Mind you, I had logged out during this time and I entered character creation. I thought my character was safe, but as I was creating a new character, a message popped up on my screen telling me something about releasing a spirit or whatever and then I logged back into my other character again (the one I thought I had already logged off of) and my hp was at zero. My horse had apparently run away too. However, dying didn't stop me from walking/running. When I tried to strafe from side to side, my character would fall over to his side (but on a 50 degree angle so he wasn't laying down) and would float across the ground - the tip of his feet touching the earth. Oh, did I already say that the combat music was still playing while I was in character creation with my second character?

Also, the town music is decent for the first four loops through, but it gets really tiring (turned the speakers off) after that. I clicked the blue button towards the lower left of my screen to see all my different options, but I didn't see anything that had to do with audio controls. Anyway, cool horse, but this game needs a lot of work. The first things I would suggest taking care of are 1. the lag 2. user-friendliness 3. a blatant bug reporting option to submit bugs easily (because there are many of them).
