I play the crap out of a F2P for a couple days. I occasionally find a new game in the process.

I buy a cheap old game on gog.com. Right now I'm playing Rise of the Triad.

    Read.

Or over the last 2 years I've gotten more in to console gaming / action gaming on my PC.

But I've been happy with playing Lord of the Rings every other weekend or so. The lack of pressure from a subscription is nice.

I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

I play something else that does catch my fancy. Currently that's different iterations of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. Last week it was Call of Duty. Next week? I dunno.

i usually play something that i dont normally play.  typically when i hit burnout its because ive played too many similar games.  so against my own will ill find something that has good reviews that is very opposite of what ive been playing and pick it up.

so recently i got burned out on quest chain mmorpgs, so i resubbed to warhammer and have been doing a lot of rvr and having a blast.  im slowly migrating into rts though playing the new might and magic demo and warhammer 40k

well i dont have any current games, since im on the "bored of whats out there"  mode since november 2010

i actually tried a super hard core game, with permadeath and present day graphics, works with skill system and not levels, and you can have any profession you like as long as you put time and effort into it...

i like to call it the "Real World" but others refer to it as "Real life" either way its the same game...

    as for entertainment

what i did was retroplay, i went on the top games of 2009-2008-2007 and so forth and played the top game of the year (not MMO mind you)

while doing that i bought bioshock 1 and finished it. i fell in love with the lore and the universe, i went and bought bioshock 2 and meh was good but nothing like the first, and now im really hyped about bioshock infinite. i bought the soundtrack from itunes for the 1 and 2. i paid  60$ for all that... and i got more fun out of it than the current shit thats out on the market.

also, i revisited Ultima Online and EverQuest... still awesome games alive and kicking, for barely anything i am having more fun than whats out there now... and even with outdated graphics, the gameplay makes it worthwhile.

As a PC player, I hold onto my old games.  There will come a time when I want to play them again, and their availability years later would be a problem.  One of the weird perks of PC gaming is that you can dig out some really old titles and use them on your current rig.  Granted, some older stuff from the 90s sometimes require more work to run, such as a few like X-Com needing the DOSBox utility.

Some older titles I've loaded back up and played with in the last year alone:

X-Wing: Alliance (1999) - A gem from the Golden Era of space combat games.

Freespace 2 (1999 or 2000) - Another gem just like X-Wing: Alliance, but IMO, the best space combat games have ever gotten and never came close to achieving to this date.

Arcanum:  Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura (2000)

Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines (2005) [Jeanette says, "Hi"]

    Company of Heroes (2007)

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War (2004)

    Battlefield 2 (2005)

I still buy new stuff, but every now and then I want the experience of an older title again.

Yea tried that too, to hard for my taste.  Do it every now and then to punish myself, but then I retreat to a nice and easy and colourful game world.

Or I hunt down some good series or movies.  If I have a moment of clarity I read something usefull or intelligent, or -heaven forbid- I attempt to learn something new.

I actually have several types of games installed and take turns in playing them.  On my pc right now are a.o. MMORPGS: Eve Online, WoW, Rift, DDO.  RPG: Drakensang-River of Time, Dragonage I (really need to get 2).  League of Legends.  Duke Nukem Forever and Starcraft II .  I also have some oldschool sidescrolling fighting games installed: the Golden Axe series and Final FIght series.  They're some good-though frustrating by times- nostalgic fun.

    Currently playing: Skyrim, SWTOR
Looking forward to: Guildwars 2 ! modestly excited for: The Secret World
Have played intensely: Rift, Eve, AoC, WoW, Conquer 2.0, Astonia 3
Have played less intensely: just about everything else

I think that's a terrible & tedious place to be OP, been there, didn't get the T-shirt!

These days waiting for the time I can really find the time to play some games I missed, more out of "working them out" curiosity than excitement to play most, although some of the above suggestions eg GOG do excite, as do App games which are easy to load, immensely cheap and usually diverse satisfaction.

Also Reading eg just finished some science Reading and catching up on movies, travel etc.

Just finishing a review of an mmo and compiling an app list of top games too. Intending to look into several space mmos additionally.

I think often there's choice of games out there and good options but they don't quite hit that "Eurika" switch leading to "where's my killer game now?"

Been fishing, hunting.  i like building things so i go into my shop and repair or make furniture.  i'm not the best but i find it enjoyable.   pretty much really like repairing things,  electronics you name it i like to fix it.  havn't really missed gaming at all since i went back to old hobbies.  oh yeah camping and hiking n stuff too :P

gaming wise i just spend very few hours running around in different games i have on my pc and consoles, soon as i get bored i usually don't game for the rest of the week.

i'm hoping i just got really burnt out with gaming and just need a break, but i dunno everyday i look at games sites i just don't get that "i miss playing this" feeling.

Well I usually just stop playing games. Sometimes I play some old game for a while. I found a box of AoE 2 Collector's Edition so I am playing a bit of this.

Mostly I am just separating myself from gaming , and now I am currently waiting for GW2 and ArcheAge.

Was thinking about TSW but since they do double dipping P2P+ Item Shop , I resigned from trying it.

Well I am not looking to play alot of games anymore , I am just looking for some long-lasting mmorpg to play, I have some small hopes for AA. I am concerned about it's business model though as it is not decided yet. Really hope it will be p2p.

Before it will be released I might entertain myself with GW2 abit since some people I know will play it and It looks fun enough to try. I think that  I won't get really attached to it though.

Basically nowadays when I am older I am more picky than when I was younger. I want to have game with features I want , providing gamestyle I want and having business model I want.

There is slim chance I find it , looking at what's happening to mmorpg's and not only industry atm.

For other single player games , nothing I really look forward to be honest.

I would like a good CRPG , I was hoping for DA2 after suprisingly old-stylish and relatively good DA:O , but DA2 was very big let down , and there seems that nothing interesting is on horizon.

So basically if there is nothing interesting on gaming market I just don't play and I am waiting for those very few titles that have potential to be good.

Oh I am observing Path of Exile , don't have beta key unfortunetally :( but it looks promising

I take a break and do other stuff. There are of course games of other genres I sometimes play as well (I plan to spend some time in Heroes VI this autumn).

Steam deals... old games, new games, games you wanted to play but never got around to it. Just started playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 last night, think I paid a total of like $4 for the game, already got my money's worth.

    Move on

We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!

Playing Fable 3, Oblivion, Morrowind (good deals on Steam) plus I got all of Quake 1-4 !

Waiting for Skyrim and to try new MMORPGs Wildstar, ArchAge, GW2, and DF 2.0

Looking for a game without a raiding-centered endgame

I just look on various mmo site forums to see what's out there or coming up.
I was waiting on star wars, but just by watching stuff floating around I already feel like I been there.

Well, I've mostly stopped playing MMORPGs. Only one I'm sorta trying out is Star Trek Online, since a friend wanted me to try it with him. It isn't too bad, actually.

I do play a MMORTS that is in beta, that I am definitely going to buy once it is released. Dawn of Fantasy. Very very fun game, by an indie company. But it has a publisher behind them, so they get their box in store+digital. And is going to be a lot more highend than other MMORTS's that have come out (which are few). I may start avoiding MMORPGs all together, and just play MMORTS (rare) and MMOFPS.

Current MMORPGs really suck (at least to me). I don't want to raid for 5 hours+ in one sitting. In fact, I don't want to raid at all. I like sandbox MMOs that leave items to players to craft. Most MMOs focus on raids. I don't want 100 and 1 other people doing the same exact quest I am, and it making no difference. I don't want to get randomly PvPed for no reason. If space, I want it to actually be interesting. I want planets to look like planets and not tennis balls. I want to land on planets. However,  I'm looking forward to GW2 (which answers all my complaints) and SWTOR (I'm buying both, imagine that). If those two fail for me...then I'm done with MMORPGs. I'm also waiting for pre-cu to come out. I have good memories of pre-cu. Unless nostalgia is just messing with my memory...in any case, I'm trying it out. Especially since SWG is closing down.

But here is my list of games I play...if I get bored with one, I play another game that strikes my fancy. I have a lot of games, but these are ones I currently have installed. Sometimes I like city building games, so I find my copy of Anno Dawn of Discovery and install that...good thing of having a variety of games...get bored with one...play another or whatever you feel like :)

I find Mass Effect to be awesome, for a good RPG experience. I'm going through the storyline, then going to Mass Effect 2

Total War (Medieval 2+Stainless Steel+BGR IV) which makes the game really hard+WAY better and TW is always already fun. With BGR IV, it kind of makes Total War into a Europa Universalis style game, but less complex than EU. Less zerg rush, more strategy. Both in Battle mode and Campaign map.

Total War (Empire, with Terra Incognita mod) makes ETW a lot better. I prefer Medieval 2 setting though, but I like to play Empire occasionally

X3 Terran Conflict is my favorite space game, makes EVE look weak in comparison.

Both Oblivion and Nehrim, which makes an awesome sandbox/open world experience. Modded Oblivion does anyway. Andoran, a Russian overhaul mod, is coming out later this year (last ETA, may get pushed back), and makes the graphics to be just as good as Skyrim, as well as making a much more open world than Nehrim. Maybe even more open than Oblivion, as it introduces many crafting things and tons of more open world stuff. The world will be a lot bigger too than Oblivion. Storyline, from what is announced, is better than Nehrim too. Not to say Nehrim is bad, I love it, just sounds and looks like Andoran will two up it.

Minecraft, but I'm waiting for 1.8 to come out, pre-release is too buggy for me

Dwarf Fortress (fortress mode+adventure mode) is fun occasionally

I also am going through (slowly) the Assassin's Creed series...skipped one (I did play part of the beginning so I had an idea for the story), didn't like that at all...going through 2, and will go through brotherhood next. AC2 is amazing, I love it.

Spore (with PlatinumSpore mod) which makes Spore WAY better. Still not like the hype made it to be, but the mod makes it a lot better. I like creating creatures and terraforming planets and what not.

Future titles I'm 100% for sure buying in the near future: Dawn of Fantasy (money already set aside for it), Warhammer Space Marine (next on my list) and that is it for now. Plus some random game(s) TotalBiscuit/TotalHalibut  reviews and likes on Youtube, that interests me too. Way later, I'm buying Skyrim, but only after it gets a Game of the Year edition that will include the however many 15-20 dollar each DLCs that will be released. Learned that mistake after Oblivion/Fallout 3, i could have saved a lot of money.

I don't really have any FPS games now that I think of it. Guess I'm more of a RPG/Strategy person. I do like platformers and action games, though. Which Assassin's Creed and later, Space Marine fill.

I also have Prince of Persia (one of my favorite series), or I did...sadly, my boxes for it have gone missing...but if I find them, I love that series. If not, I'll probably just buy the series again...but it will have to be way later. I have other games higher on my list. I think my "friend" (who I don't keep in contact with, since he stole some of my real life pets) "borrowed" the games and since I wasn't playing them, didn't notice until many months later...in any case, I hope that isn't the case and I find them.

So, as you can see, I have quite a big list of games. I generally find them a lot more enjoyable than any MMORPG I have played. Guess I'm just burnt out on MMORPGs. So I'm not bored with current games, but a whole genre of games :P

  • Trolldefender99Trolldefender99 Member UncommonPosts: 416

Wow...that was a lot longer than I thought it was going to be. Ah well, if someone wants ideas of games to play...they can read the post.

    (edit)

Actually, only MMORPG I like currently...which has everything other MMOs have that I DISLIKE. Which is funny. That being, full loot, perma death, open pvp...is Haven and Hearth. I probably like it more, because it is generally focused on building and perma death actually makes PvP a lot more rare (though still happens quite a bit)...perma death being, needing to remake your character...but you keep some skill points and stats. You can play as a hermit, or with a small "tribe" of people or be a part/lead a whole village.

It is more about survival really, and I fawn over survival based games. I love being forced to survive in the wilderness, being part of a world that is entirely player made (buildings, items, everything except the world itself). Unreal World is another survival game I really really like, it is singleplayer though and I don't currently have it. It is on my games to get list. I even heavily modded Fallout 3 to be a survival based game...which actually makes sense, being a post-apoc world.
