In a new blog post on the Darkfall Online site, Tasos Flambouras indicates that the much-anticipated siege system is "looking good" for deployment sometime the week of September 12th.
In addition to the announcement that the siege system will be releases soon, Flambouras wrote a bit about Protection Shards. According to Flambouras, the Protection Shards are a feature that many players have requested. The shards will come in large and small sizes and will protect player's holdings for three (small) or six (large) hours.
The team is also working on relaunch details such as distribution partners, distribution and timing.

They also said they'd give an ETA for DF 2.0 by the end of August.
So I'll believe it when I see it, and when I see it, I still won't care much.

We still haven't seen most of the promised stuff from "DF2010" and its nearly 2012.
I wouldn't get my hopes up.
LOLOLOLOL
U really thing it will be out next week........................
I did enjoy my time in this game, however brief it was. Were I a twenty-something with time galore this might have been my main MMO inbstead of a ship passing in the night.
Spot on.
He who keeps his cool best wins.
I had hopes for Darkfall so many times. I can't see anything the dev team says as good news unless it actually happens. They always say, "Hey this is coming out" Or "Hey look at what we have been working on!" and you never actually see it added to the game.
Agreed.
It is a very good game for those who have infinate time to play it.
You dont need infinite time to play it, the PvE (with the risk involved) is some of the best available, but to succeed in pvp yes you need huge amounts of time.
If you only have short periods of time you do have to give the game 100% focus during those times though, its not a game to play while the wife and kids constantly distract you.
As I've said before I'd still be playing if it wasn't for the shitty 280 ping (to Australia) since the server move. I never had long periods of time to play, but I enjoyed it when I did get on.
Playing: Darkfall New Dawn (and planning to play Fallout 76)
Favourite games have included: UO, Lineage2, Darkfall, Lotro, Baldur's Gate, SSX, FF7 and yes the original Wizardry on an Apple IIe
Didn't AV already try their new Siege on this site? This game a waste of time imho if your out for some good PVP. The down time for too much.
Wait a minute, did they just take out full looting?
kinda XD
I'm not sure what makes you think they took out full looting. They haven't, and most likely never will. It's the feature that makes DF give it's high risk (or rewarding) gameplay. It's like removing PvE raids from WoW, not likely to ever happen.
Its also the main reason why this game will always have one empty server in North America.
Just let a clan take another clans town by force no rules, its after all FREE FOR ALL pvp mmo right? Why all these carebear rules, beats me?
If thats the main reason that means there only non pvpers left in mmo gaming community.
Darkfall is made for hardcore free for all full loot pvp if 99.99% dont like this so be it, i realy hope devs never bow to those gamers and rather let the game DIE then abandon there gaming principles.
Free for all FULL LOOT FOREVER!!!
I really don't think that the full loot is the problem. If the game had better balance amongst resource placement, resources used to craft, and strong enough reasons not to use the ENTIRE game map as a quasi-Quake map, then I think more people would be inclined to give Darkfall a shot.
Eve seems to be doing really well, afterall.

Isnt that what protection shards are? To protect your loot?
Ok, never mind. It wasnt clear. They let you change your seige time.
It is not a good game because there are still no skill caps. Without skill caps the chances of someone making a competitive character are almost nil compared to a veteran player.
Don't try to compare this game to Eve either, as Eve's skill design caps are not an issue, you can be very competitive in a months time and very in a few.
Skill caps limit gameplay, but they are adding some forms of specializations instead. Supposedly no longer the once-promised prestige classes, but they are not giving much info on it yet.
What the game is suffering from is a blackout of solid info for over a year, endless delays and excuses, and no new notable game content for almost 2 years (last thing being sea towers).
Lack of content patches and communication is causing the population issues. This siege patch won't change it either, after 2 months of delays and being renamed from a patch to an expansion for some reason, a few siege mechanics changes aren't enough to pull people back in sadly. All bets are being put on the relaunch right now, and if the relaunch fails the remaining population will also leave.
Time will tell how it all turns out though, my point is though, it's not the full loot that makes DF have a hard time right now, it's really just Aventurine being careless with their own playerbase. Any DF player can give you the same answer.
The combat mechanics are great - I think the PvE and PvP combat is arguably one of a kind.
But like someone above said, to be competitive in PvP requires a lot of time , and I would rather not macro swimming or spell casting in a town just to be competitive.
If AV tweaked the effectiveness of skill levels and let PvP be truly "player skill" based, Darkfall would have alot more players and subscribers.
Limiting gameplay is good because it enforces risk vs reward.
