Except for when you enter Ironforge... no. Never any lag. Alterac Valley battlegrounds did lag maybe a few times, but not too many to actually consider it unplayable, and best of all it never happens during combat! I died, I ressurect at graveyard, I run towards the battle, I see everyone at a distance, 2-3 second lag, game becomes stable again before I even reach the battle!

Thats the biggest key to no lag right there. if you get up to 1GB RAM then you should have almost no system lag. Very rarely does the game have much server lag, the only lag i usually deal with is client lag which is just a simple RAM upgrade to your computer and you're good to go.
I used to lag TERRIBLY in Ironforge. Then, as some suggested above, I bought a 1gb memory stick for my laptop, giving me a total of 1.25gb of memory. Now, I don't lag at all. I'd highly recommend boosting your memory as much as possible if you play WoW.
That should be more than enough to get you through WoW. I'm not sure if that will keep you lag free in Ironforge, but you'll smoke with those specs everywhere else.
Just curious, as I haven't played WoW for a few months now, does AH and/or mailboxes still lag a lot at peak hours? It was very frustrating to play when you had to wait few mins to read your mail or search AH.
Try moving to a server with lower population. You can see which servers have high pop and which have low pop on www.worldofwarcraft.com. Check Realm status to see their pops.
It has never really lagged for me except for 7 seconds everytime I go into IF. Then again I have 1GB of memory. Mmm memory is so nice and tasty.
On the subject of lag, does anyone know if the servers are actually located in their timezones? So a server on west coast time is in the west coast but a server on east coast time is in the east coast? Becuase it looks like from what I have seen I do get a little higher pms if it is on the other side of the country.
Only at about 1GB of RAM you'll start getting smooth gameplay. I had 768MB at first but I had to buy extra 512MB because it was so annoying to play. But no amount of RAM can help you with AH/mailbox lag.

Depends.
Where do you live? How close to the servers are you? How much peak time traffic will you have to pass through? What router stations/service is being used?
I can only speak for ONE server, in ONE region. I play on Emerald Dream, in Europe, and YES, I do get lag, even with 1 gig ram. Database, mail, AH lag occurs at peak times, especially weekends, combat lag too and random disconnects. ED in Europe is about 70% Alliance, so IF (around the bank)lags BADLY, except early in the morning.
And before you say it, ED is a low pop server, but the server tech is crap and there have been problems since launch, including restarts and downtime.
I have found, in the past, that to get the most accurate answer my question will provide as much info as possible.
-Pentium 4 2.8Ghz -512MB Ram -ATI Radeon 9800 Pro video card
Well see, this is the only problem with 512MB of RAM.
The game itself requires 500-600 megs of free RAM. With only 512MB of RAM, you have WinXP sucking up a good 100 megs for itself, plus any extra softwares running in background like torrents, firewall, anti-virus... another 50 to 100 megs of RAM.
With 512MB, you're left with about 300MBs of free RAM. Since WoW needs 500-600, it'll take up that 300MBs you have left, and whenever it needs more, it'll keep getting info onto your Harddrive and that causes system lag. Add system lag + server lag and you get MAJOR lag. hehe
With 1 gig of RAM you'll never have system lag and you'll only have to worry about server lag!
You'll have 200MB of free ram for whatever else you wanna load at the same time as WoW! I like to listen to MP3s with Winamp while I play WoW and I get no lag because of that.

Sorry,I cant help you on that quetion.
no, it doesn't
at least on the horde side there seems to be hardly any database lag anymore.
even if the server is filled up (ie. queue on joining)

For me game starting to lag when I enter to areas with 30+ active players. I never had lag in MC or Onyxia instance raids.
It has never really lagged for me except for 7 seconds everytime I go into IF. Then again I have 1GB of memory. Mmm memory is so nice and tasty.
