LoL @ anyone who says the words "vapor ware" or "scam". Since when has BioWare done either of those things? I seriously hope you're joking because that makes you sound really.......................................Hahahaha.........
Really though, who cares. I'd rather have a well done game than have them push out an incomplete game or something with lots of bugs.
I'm with the guys that don't mind the delay, but would like to have the game now since I have no current MMO. But I have quite a few single players or multiplayer to kill some time.
Anyway, I trust this company. They will take as long as they need to deliver the game they promised.
The official word on that build isn't that it fixes all the bugs, it's that it adds a lot of stuff that is missing in the current build.
But at least it's a new build, most of the bugs I've heard about were visual ones and that was just about it.
Considering they are still rolling in significant new content, and suspending test cycles for them, odds are against a 2011 launch at this point in time.
This annoucement is a way to give advance warning to something that has a very good chance of occurring.
Especially you should note, the 2011 date was based on a lot of "assumptions". As one who releases software for a living trust me, assumptions rarely come true, especially for a new development team that has no real track record to go by regarding the accuracy and vailidty of their assumptions. (optimisim almost always runs rampant with little basis in fact)

Right now spring in 2012 is a much safer bet.
Just for clarity, regular testeing was not suspended. It is still going on according to Bioware folks. They only postponed the BETA WEEKENDS while the regualar beta testers test the new build.
I am not surprised really, most MMOs gets delayed and it seems like EA wont force them to release it no matter what, I guess they learned that the hard way from WAR.

I am not really sure how you can call Bioware a "new development team" and even if you are refering to the fact that this is their first MMO, you must know that they have a LOT of EA Mythic folk (who this will be their 3rd MMO) as well as the folk who run Ultima Online (12+ years) as part of their big developement family too.
All signs I've read/seen/heard point to that the game itself is ready they are just preparing for and testing for the actual launch - the technical and customer-experience focused aspects of the launch itself.

They do have a experienced team but delays happens anyways. Blizzards Diablo 3 team is experienced as well.
Besides, they have delayed it once, it can happen again. Better to delay then release something that isn't as good as it should have been at release.
But relax, the game will release and a few months more or less isn't a big deal (or do you plan to do like Cartman and freeze yourself while you wait?).
Stopping the tester weekends after just one is a sign to me that the game isn't close now, and we're already in mid September. My money is the new year.
they stopped them to push a new build. They already have stated that testing weekends will continue
Regardless of the reason, times ticking.. if we're still doing testing in October a release this year would be unlikely.
They only postponed the beta weekends (which are more of marketing ploy and stress test anyway) for the new buld. Regular beta testing is still ongoing according to Bioware posts on the official forums. They want the regular testers to test the new build before rolling into the beta weekends. The new build will require a fresh download and a characte wipe.
I'm really unsure why this is considered 'news' right now - when it's the exact same thing they said in July? Can't say anything more than - unless something huge happens within the next little while - this game is ready for launch in 2 months!

The new part is that October is now a possible month for the release date announcement. Last conference call I believe only September was mentioned.
The pushback til 2012 is slowly happening. I think they will make it official in Oct.
Open-Beta testers don't really do any testing except for stress testing...
Bioware themselves have said the main/primary/only focus of these weekend tests is to simulate a "soft launch" by adding in thousands/tens of thousands of "testers" at one time and having them all hit the server in a short period of time - just like it will be at launch.
The "real" testing is still on-going in the real closed beta and has been going for months and months.
I'm sure the 10% or less of the weekend testers who actually submit useful feedback will be appreciated, but the only thing they really care about for these tests is how many people are downloading/creating accounts/toons and logging in/ hitting the origin world at once.
Considering stress testing is like.. the last thing they do before launch, I'm still 100% sold on a mid/late November release.
If BW dont release TOR soon I am Afraid that they will start loosing fans or at the very least many fans will start to become disgruntle.
Blahblahblah yadayadayada: "I lost interest" "I am not hyped anymore" "2 more months is way too much" "If they don't tell us a release date next week I wont play it anymore".

All I have to say:
See you at launch!
So true Lumster! I've seen so many beta leaks this game is going to be so hot! People are just haters!! All the WoW people fear the force!!!hahahaha!

I don't think the real fans will lose interest, but if they're getting into the GW2 release window they might lose sales from the people who were planning on playing both. That might be a significant chunk if GW2 is enough to keep people busy for more then a couple of months.
Waiting for Guild Wars 2, and maybe SWTOR until that time...
Aren't they required by SEC rules to report this kind of contingency when they cannot 100% guarantee a product launch date (yes they are that was rhetorical)? Plus since they don't want to announce the launch date yet there is no reason to believe that it's anything more than that rather than the game not being ready...

I am confident the game will launch in time for the holiday season. It is well worth EA/Bioware pushing their staff through every weekend for the next 2 months to make sure the game releases in time for the holidays; this will increase immediate sales, as well as get subscriptions recurring faster. If they miss early December they might as well release in March.
I'm reluctant to even quote this post. As I'm not sure if it's NDA breaking or not, when mods and admins state you can't say any more than you have been invited to Beta (which excludes giving opinions of your experience in any way) it's safe to say we can't discuss this.
Which begs the question why even bring it up in the first place? As you could mean anything by this, it says nothing of what you actually saw.
Then add to that we've seen dev comments to the effect of, (paraphrase) "the current build is missing many launch features, testing weekends postponed to add an updated build".
( This says to me the first weekend test saw a large volume of feedback on missing features, they decided to apply the next phased build before deploying anymore weekend tests.)

I'm hoping it's next year.
Personal Reasons?
#1. I'll get to enjoy some of the other major titles that are releasing VERY soon: BF3 / MW3. These games, IMO, will take away from SWTOR in a sense.
#2. I file my taxes in Jan. With direct deposit option, I normally get my check within 1-2 weeks. UPGRADES!!!!

Let's also not forget this is from ther same publisher usually getting blamed for forcing games out the door before they are ready.
Not worried don't care! Gives me time to play BF3 and MW 3!!
This game is off the rails as it is.
A premature (forced launch by EA) would pretty much kill it.
People ought to be content with waiting.

lol. This is not true one bit. This game will still be just as potent if it launches Dec of next year.
People will be more disgruntled if they get an early launch of a bad game.
