During PAX, the Star Wars: The Old Republic team was excited to show off the latest PvP area, The Alderaan Warzone. MMORPG.com Managing Editor Bill Murphy had the opportunity to check it out and has a firsthand report. Keep reading and then let us know your thoughts.
You’re probably wondering: “Bill, why didn’t you write this sooner!?” but truth be told, Alderaan isn’t the most talked about Warzone right now, and there were lots of other talking points for The Old Republic in the past couple of weeks, so forgive me if I held onto this bit for a little while. During PAx Prime’s “Press Hour” on Friday, we writer-types were pitted against one another in a match to showcase the eight versus eight Wazrone. It was my first taste of TOR’s PVP, and I have to say… it’s a whole lot better than I expected it to be.

I cannot wait for TOR. The more I read about the PvP, the more I'm looking forward to it. I'm hoping the open world RvR is sort of like DAoC's keep sieges, seeing the planetary fortresses that you take.
Big downs for the multiple ways to spell an ill-fated fictional planet wrong.

It's nothing more than a basic WoW Battleground with some pre-story.
I don't understand why people get so excited about this lack-luster form of instance pvp.
Me being a pve-er, I can say that the warzones look fun enough.
I will have to wait and try the mechanics myself to see if I can start developing a taste for pvp.
I am also a PVEr. But from what I have seen then I am starting to look forward to joining guildmates (only way I PVP) in group PVP. If you PVP addicts can break loose from your elitism you might consider how much fun you will have ganking us unskilled newbies while we learn the 'trade'. For the real PVPers who enjoy the competition we nubes can give you a chance to enjoy the game while we learn the skills necessary to compete without the 'showboating' in endgame that turn off so many.
Also the esports nature of that 'Huttball' PVP, well, I am kinda looking forward to PVP for the first time ever in an MMO. Good job so far Bioware. And thanks Richard for the Alderaan coverage, boosted my interest in PVP a little more.
You get all this from a few videos and the article? Or you in the habit of breaking NDA's too?
Really, I know I have not played it either so I can't argue the opposite, but I would put more trust in someone who has, like the Author, then someone who just wants to hate the game no matter what is published about it.
Oh yeaaa...more battle ground care bear pvp...this is so fun, yeaaa...
How about some open world, pathetic

Before saying this, know that this is not an attack on you (the guy that posted this) but this is just what I mean...all Bioware is doing is catering to the pve guys...this crap they are calling pvp, is not pvp...its battlegrounds with a different game. Sure, you'll get your care bear fan club, but the Star Wars world is to epic to stop there...how about going a little further and finding soemthing for the hardcore pvpers...i'm soooooo dissappointed and feel shafted that bioware was teh company that bought the star wars title. I respecrt that they make good rpgs...but come on, give us some real pvp guys.

MMORPGers are not eAtheletes.
Do any of you like this "eSport" phrase? Don't you find it to be embarrassing?
eSports is embarrassing. Unless MMOs start to use Kinetic-like requirements to move, run, and fight, eSports should be known as eJoke.
MMO PvP is about as much as a sport as poker... oh wait. >.<
Because flying a Minmatar ship is like going down a flight of stairs on an office chair while firing an Uzi.
Ok, so that promo for it does look reaaaally good. Really catches your attention.
Yes, it looks to be great, fantastic, stupendous, marvelous, wondrous, OMFG, trouser-browning, bed-wetting fun.
Now how about a release date? (and 'it's done when it's done' is not sufficient)

Info is coming thick and fast, we are talking November release I reckons here.
I dont see any elves in there. /argument bye
Rage on internet!
"Instance PVP sucks! for CAREBEARS! I AM HARDCORE, gimme open world"
"Open world pvp sucks, force player to get involve in PVP! griefers!!"
"WoW Clone x 100 Zzzzz"
"This game is a rip off, *insert name* is way better"
"No release date? this game is doooom"
Yeah, let the haters hate. in the end of the day no one gave a F***.
I can confirm that it is true i've played it and it was also more fun then i expected it to be. you feel like it is kinda a war(not alot). the destruction of the ships in the background is also a nice view. i can't even tell you how much teamplay is necessary in this game.
This game is looking better and better. Some great info on the BH class too, thanks!
What exactly is "real" PvP? Many "hardcore" pvpers complain that battlegrounds and open RvR is not "real" PvP. This always makes me wonder what their "real" "hardcore" pvp actually is. Is it randomly ganking people (if that's all you do in an mmo it's borderline sociopathic)? Is it is grouping up and attacking another factions town? Is it mindlessly zerging each other in random locations around the world? It just seems like anything with an actual objective is labeled "carebear" by the "hardcore." I don't really get it. I've mindlessly and goallessly zerged in other games and I found it losses it's appeal pretty fast.
It's been a while since I've been excited about pvp in any mmo.
Are they going to give XP/PvP tokens to the losing team? I don't like that, as that brings AFKers that just want to farm XP/PvP tokens. Losing team should be eaten by a giant worm and get a temporary PvP penalty.
Nice, I like the alternate routes to the turrents. This will really set a good group apart from a disorganized mob. Looking forward to SWToR quite a bit.
