My work requires me to travel a lot. I generally get low-quality internet connections (low bandwidth, unstable ping, frequent packet loss) in the hotels, so first-person shooter and strategy games are out. MMORPGs are generally more forgiving for low-quality connections than other games.
I also have a laptop for gaming. It isn't amazing for hardware, but it can run some 3d games at a good framerate. Minecraft and Alien Swarm run well on it. Gatling Gears and Rock of Ages get low FPS, but are mostly playable. Star Trek Online runs fine at low settings but I can't stand not having my gamepad for pressing all the buttons required in that game.
Does anyone know of some good top-down games? They don't have to be MMOs, but they do have to be multiplayer. Lower system requirements are a must and forgiving of poor-quality internet connections is also important.

No suggestions? This must be an unpopular genre.
One possible option is a decent FTP game called Spiral Knights. It's a pretty entertaining game. The graphics might be a bit child like, but don't let that fool you. I played with the Steam client, but you can just go to the Sprial Knights website and get the client from there if you really wanted.
Try Mythos, it's a diablo inspired (clone) so it's a hack-n-slash game. Check that out and, if you don't mind playing a bit offline, Bastion is a BEAUTIFUL singleplayer indie-game. Definitivley recommended If you're int he EU you need to get the EU version of myhos.

Try Thang Online.. it has been out for a long time, but went down due to lack of support from old company that had a license to run it. It is a fairly basic MMO but is extremely fun to play.
You can find there information in "Game List" at the top.
Would you include isometric view?
League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth might be worth a look.
