I was waiting for this game to come out and I was like WOW this game look incredible and it looks like its gonna be sooooo much fun, and all instances and what not. looks like I was wrong about that because when I got the game I was so dissappointed about the whole thing.....I mean its a good game don't get me wrong, but wow gets my attention so much mor then GW did and so yeah, I mean I love PvPing and stuff but you know what I'm saying?

No I am not a wow fan boi putting this game down, because like i said above it is a good game, jsut not what i thouight it was gonna be.....so I mean for any oen who wants to try this game out I think you should give it a go, I mean $50 and no monthly fee for a pretty good game, maybe I will give this game another shot but we'll see.

Negatives:

-No 2h swords
-No 2h Axes(I don't think)
-No Crafting for players only thru NPCs
-Most armor looks the same.
-Can only have 4 characters

Positives:

-No monthly fee
-All instanced zones for less lag
-Can solo whole game
-PvP server is alot of fun
-NPC party members :-)
-2 class per char

Well this is all i can say about the game at this point, so for all of you that want to try this game I say try it and give it a good run.

There are 2H axes, and there are many different armors + you can customize their colors by dyes. What's so bad about having 4 character slots? I think that 4 slots are enough per player.

  • tu_uilwentu_uilwen Member Posts: 794

I have not seen may different armor types so i dunno maybe its just me??? And I don't care about colo I mean most armors look alike in the style and stuff not color....

In general the positives on your list out way the negatives by a whole hell of a lot when you consider you are not paying per month. I still love WoW but man for a free game to play, and the size of the world the gave you. It is a great game!

Most people seem to decide they don't like it, after just a short amount of play. That's stupid, to be honest.

The first place you see in the game, is actually only a newbie zone, and if you do a few quests, you will eventually get a cut scene where the kingdom is destroyed.

when you end up in the place where it's all ruins, and desert, then you are in the real game.

it gets a lot more interesting.

Also, remember, this game isn't about who has the highest level, or who has the best items. It's about tactics, and skill. Fair enough, there are only a limited amount of armour types for each class, but to me this is just a graphical thing. It doesn't effect the game play.

Don't be so superficial. Play the game, you will see that there is a massive amount of character customisation, only not in the sense of having pretty armour, but in which skills you take into battle with you.

The games that I have played and liked, got my attention right away. I would say to myself " WoW, that is cool". Then those same games usually get better the longer I  play and I start noticing all the neat little details and nuances.

If a game doesn't strike you that way from the start, then it's safe to say there is not much point in continuing to play, just hoping it gets better.

I'd have to agree with the original poster, GW is a good game, but dont see the hype surrounding it. Its longevity isnt what i expected for my playstyle. To give you an idea, ive 3 level 20's (finished story arc" with 1 free slot so i can create a pvp character as i need it. Have all professions unlocked almost to its entirety with only ranger unlocked, have over 800fame from the arena and this was a couple months ago.

It is a fun game, but from my experience you can burn out on it quickly. unlike other mmo's that you can play hours a day for months on end and still not achieve even 25% of the game. I've done it all it seems, gotten the finest armor, done underworld to death, finished the story arc 3 times, rank 5 in pvp, all within a month+.

My problem is i did to much to quick and the games content isnt quite up to par with other games. Does that make GW a bad game? not at all, but from my experience its far closer to a Dungeon Siege/Diablo game than a mmo. And considering its no monthly charge, you get what you pay for.

Then I gotta say... Don't sit and play games 24/7 cause it's not too healthy, and there are lots of other stuffs to do. I bought this game the next day it came out and I'm still not halfways.

Well cold hawk that would mean you barely play, in a matter of 3-4 days I had a lvl 13, wiht out even having a group.....ever......I did it all with the computer group members....this game to me is a good game, and as scor said...you get what you pay for with no monthly fee.....to me I love the game swith like 234728347298 armor types and weapons and stuff....I mean GW doesn't even have 2h swords....and you can't even dual wield like the warrior on one of their wall papers....why show a warrior dual wielding if you can't even do it?????

But all in all, it is a good game and I did enjoy it.....sorta.....I jsut get more out of games like EQ, WoW, EQII, and what not......

tu_uilwen: I'm a GW player, and throughout my gaming experience, you do make some good points, and even though I still love this game, even through its few flaws, I would like to say that you had an excellent way of getting your message accross. You did not immidiatly flame the game, you made a list of the pros and cons (and checked it twice, lol), and you put the facts out there. At least this topic is a sign that the flaming in this section is going down. Thank you.

  • tu_uilwentu_uilwen Member Posts: 794

The only people I flame or game(never a game) are the people who flame a game they have 1.) never played.......2/) know nothing about....or 3.) jsut started playing.

I played GW till I was about lvl 12 or 13 and I mean I like the game......its good for no monthly fee..and you know....jsut I ahte how they showed there warrior dual wield yet we can't......no 2h swords.....and stuff....which is cool, nothign that makes the game bad, jsut would be better if that was implemented.......

    2. I love the 2 class per char so I think thats true char customization.....
    3. I love that the game is about skills rather than items and armor.....becaus eI play wow and its not fair to me when I was like lvl 35 and a lvl 60 would come and KICK MY EVER LOVING BUTT!!!.....

so you see I think this is an EXCELLENT game for the money and no monthly fee......and I am sorta humored that some people here think I am flaming the game.....because I have stated that its a good game and I am not flaming.......I might give this game another try in the next few days........

but thank you lightning for actually see the point I was making, and for noticeing that I was not flaming the game in any way or anything.......

Then why did you never try out to get a group with real players. That's so much funnier and you can also communicate with the other players. I also play quite much, but right now I am in vietnam for vaccation so I can't play GW. But if you are a common MMORPG lover like EQ, EQ2, WoW and SWG that's almost the same shit, then I understand that this game wouldn't last so long for you. Do you even like PvP?
  • tu_uilwentu_uilwen Member Posts: 794

dude, i did group with outs....I said its cool that you don't need to......so you can still pretty much solo.....whats funnier is you don't know how to read and understand what someone is saying to you.........and I am in a guild so obviously I communicate with outs.......

I just want to thank the original poster for coming in and actually making a pros and cons list of the game. You did not flame, and you admited you liked Guild Wars but you prefered WoW. Thats okay, for some people, Guild Wars is not their game. I just am glad that someone can come here and actually give the game a decent criticism instead of just flaming about how bad it is. Again, thank you. image

Yes, you can max out your character in 3 days if you are a Hardcore RPG player BUT this game is for people who dont spend their entire day playing RPG. (im not trying to say you are) but

Thank you for making a point of not saying i played all day. I was in 4 beta weekend events so by the time the game came out I knew exactly what to do in what order and so on. And this is not because im a genius but rather the game is extremely linear and simple. If you've done it once, the second time around, you could do it probably in 1/5th the time.
Most games its almost as hard as doing it again because the leveling system is grind based. But in GW the leveling is mostly mission based, do the missions you level, know the missions well and your on an accelerated curve.

Again I wanted to thank you all for actually reading what I had to say and understanding it and for knowing that I was not flaming at all.....I mean the love GW and its an excellent game.....but for my play style i perfer WoW, and EQ2, I still play GW every now and then so if anyone that has XFIRE wants to add me to there friends I am

Ok I've never played guild wars, but i was goin to buy it. It was just that fact that i realized that all games are hyped, not some all games. Without hype games don't sell, or the sell really slowly till people realize its a good game. So ive just learned to wait a game out see if it actually gets a player base then try it out. After reading all the stuff about Guild wars it sounds like a great game like the dude pointed out but just not a game for me and i am glad that i didn't try it out because that would have been another 50 dollars i would have waisted on a game to add to my already to large pile of games that i have bought and stored in my closet. I figure if your going to spend money on a game it should at least last you two months if it doesn't last two months then your just wasting 50 dollars a month on games and starts to add up real quick.
  • tu_uilwentu_uilwen Member Posts: 794
lol send me some of the games that you have stored in your closet........But if I were you I would try it I mean theres no mothly fee or anything.......but if your hardcore into MMOs like WoW, EQ2 then don't.
