Hehe I see the kids are trying to wind posters up again.

Good news that Fallen Earth is going F2P, the tiered options do look very interesting, I may have to start playing again, but then again the choice of half decent F2P games is just growing and growing.

FE still the most fun I had in an mmo in a long time, kind of wondered how they would set up f2p.  The limits sound like to be on crafting mostly but that is a really major fun part of what makes FE FE.

Still I think I'd be in FE again now if SWToR was not so close.

Growing mediocrity of F2P games is starting to bore me. FE was pretty weak when it was premium, and having tiered subs (especially ones as restrictive as these) only digs a deeper ditch. I'll wait for SWtOR. I'd rather dedicate my time to a small assortment of satisfying premiums than a slew of downtime F2Ps.

I had only beta tested the game, was a bit shocked to find out later it was a P2P, it really should have been F2P from the start imo.

I'm sure a lot of things have improved since then, but during it's beginning stages the quality was just not there.

Reguardless, if nothing else i'll pop in to see how much it has changed, that should be pretty interesting.

Is that why every time I try to log in it says I should be subscribed and it shows fees for subscription on the site still? its not free yet.

if it's free to play with a Pay 2 Win system, then I won't even come near it.

    I've noticed that, too.

After reading a number of articles and seeing how they've characterized certain games as F2P (even when the developers themselves have not in a couple cases), I sense that there's a definite "pro-F2P" leaning on this site.

i don't care for the way this will be going f2p. Its going to cause segregation when it comes to parties because players with commander aura buff will want to group with other players that have the same thing to maximize their bonuses(+30% is huge). I could be over thinking it though. I just know if i had the aura i'd look for other players of the same caliber to increase my bonuses atleast until i hiit lvl cap :p

Treating former subscribers the same as those who haven't spent a dime on the game is a slap in the face. Anyone who has bought the game shoue get the "Survivalist" rank and the two subscription ranks should be pushed up one. Lotro is a good example of how to structure f2p.

It's limited hours of crafting :)  You can play 24/7 I think.

  • uncusuncus Member UncommonPosts: 528

I do wonder how thw limit of 8 hours crafting will work:

    1. 8 hr is functionally only 6.4 [at 80%]

    2. Will items that take longer than 8 hr to craft be disabled or just take multiple days to craft?  If it is the first, F2P fails because no one F2P can craft vehicles [though it will create a market for subs to sell lower level vehicles  and/or demand from the Cash Shop, though I think that has been over-estimated in G1's opinion]

There has also been stated on the G1 site that there will be changes to the harvesting system in terms of drop rates and some recipes.  How that will affect F2P crafters is also a question mark.

This is a full loot PvP game right. If so I pass then.

The stuff mentioned on the chart seems alright to me.

People who pay get everything done a bit faster. Not much faster, mind you. They don't have more life, better aim, longer line of sight or anything. It seems that in matters of PvP and stuff they have the same chances as everyone else.

So that seems fair to me, and I don't think people can complain about that. I mean, you can play the entire game for free now. Sure it's a bit slower and fewer character slots, but what do you expect?

So, I pay the subscription right now. I guess I will just keep paying it. The only difference for me then? While paying the same, everything will be done a bit faster and I get free items at times. So I'm fine with that.

In the end, it depends what they have in the item shop I guess. If it's just more mounts and mini pets, then it's like the WoW item shop. As long as they don't add overpowered items there I don't care.

About the 8 hour crafting limit for free accounts: I assume that after you crafted stuff for 8 hours a day, the crafting simply stops. You can probably add more items to the queue, but nothing will happen until the next day. Since not everyone plays a crafter I don't think that'such a huge drawback.

I prefer p2p games too, but still: this game is fun and according to that table, it seems to have a balanced fee as well. P2W is for me "buy items that are overpowered to destroy any other players". It seems that in matters of combat, all players have the same chances here, no matter how much they pay.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

IF crafting is all you do, minecraft, hello kitty online.. or other games which have little to no combat or danger are available.

LOL its actually CHEAPER to sub and play the game right now before the F2P. Epic fail? You can buy the game right now for 15 dollars and get two copies plus 30 days game time for each. If you plan on playing this F2P buy it before it goes F2P. I prefer Turbines F2P model all these games saying they are F2P are liars they are F2T, free to try. F2P is the Turbine DDO model otherwise you lie.

  • MemysabuMemysabu Member Posts: 10

No loot, no open PvP. They really messed the PvP system up but the games fun to play PVE over all. I helped a lot in beta so I know a lot about the game. I am same as you I want full loot open PvP.

This is the sad truth about most so called "free to play" conversion. You end up getting less than what you use to even though you pay the same. But that's the cost of having to support a bunch of free loaders in a game, I guess.

I think I'm going to have to jump back into Fallen Earth as a scavenger. Plenty for me to do under their F2P model.

You are playing a video game. By definition that means you are not hardcore.

You make no sense at all. With the upcoming payment model changes, you can play FE for free. Without paying a dime, as long as you want.

This also goes for EQ2X, Age of Conan Unchained (or whatever the name is atm), Anarchy Online, LOTRO and whatever other game changed to hybrid models.

If its F2P, that doesnt automatically mean you are offered the same amount of content/features as someone who pays a sub for the same game. They never claimed that to begin with. Does this mean you cant play as long as you want without spending money on it, no! You do actually get to enjoy MMO content for free. So calling it F2P is not deceiving at all.

Following your logic, you should never have to pay for any expansion either if you pay a sub for a MMO. But still no one bitches about that. You are paying full sub for a game, but cant experience full content without paying extra for the expansion.

This is only about making the entry level cheaper or like in this case free.

It seems stupid to me to have such long discussions about dialectical nimiety such as what is F2P and what is not.

Taken from he meaning of the acronym/phrase F2P would only be games like Entropia Universe (where there's no monthly sub) or Second Life where there isn't a monthly plan in place where you need to pay a sub to access the whole game. Although SL has its monthly subscription you can rise from rags to riches without investing a single cent on it.

Now pertaining _real_ F2P games like LoTRO or DDO, you can unlock the whole game farming favor and Turbine points, which doesn't mean they're easy/rewarding tasks; having to have plentiful of alts/minis to grind the content and playing all the F2P quests again and again to farm the TPs takes away all the fun of the game.

I'm playing DDO for the last 18 months (525 hours) and have four level 11 characters... played all the free quests available and some of the P2P ones (that I bought with TPs) again and again and I have unlocked probably just only 70% of all P2P quests for levels 1 to 11... so you see, some F2P games give themselves up on their entirety but that doesn't means a monthly/yearly sub won't be a better alternative to farming in exchange for content.

As a F2P player of DDO I realized that it gets old soon and really discourages someone who wants to play from beginning to end without having to work for it. I guess if I purchased the game and played a single character I would have reached level eleven with around 100 playtime hours.

Now, I haven't played AoC but played Anarchy Online from the same company (Funcom) and that's the model I think deserves to be called "extended trial" where you can do anything but within certain limits, like the restriction AO froobs have to play in Shadowlands, Jobe, etc, etc. which is decidely not F2P, but a trial without gameplay time limits.
