Just Ordered Galaxies : TE

in Star Wars Galaxies

Well, I originally ordered WoW after weeks of badgering from my friends, but after further investigation and thought changed the order to SW Galaxies Total Experiance instead. I am feeling slightly guilty, however I think I made the right decision in the long run. Warcraft has never really appealed to me, and with the slightly short life span and similar gameplay to GuildWars (my most recently purchased game) I thought Galaxies was the better choice.

I've read the reviews of the original release, all of them said it wasn't that great but it had good 'potential'. Now with the latest expansion etc I've heard that its the best the game has ever been, can anyone vouch for that ?

I am a big fan of Knights of the old Republic, so that game sort of set the mood for a similar MMORPG experiance.

Anyway, I've made my decision and I hope to see you all in the servers soon !

    All I say is good luck.  The game is nothing like GW, WoW, or anything else out there if you start from scratch.  The overall impression I got over the first few days of play was being overwhelmed, and it was my second time playing the game.  Don't get me wrong, the game is not difficult, just different and can get very slow if you do not group.  Yes you can solo, but I think if you are inexperienced in the game's mechanics you might find the game frustrating.  Anyway, do what you can solo to learn the game, then run and find a group xping on missions and you will start to see experience come in.  Once you get your first block in an elite profession, you can start soloing again because you have the ability to start using armor and decent weapons and that will start to make a huge diffence for you.

    Also, if you decide you like the game and are going to play it for some time, I recommend moving into space and making your first priority mastering a pilot profession.  The reason I say this is that space combat provides much better income than ground combat, resulting in the ability to get better gear for space and the ground, making both much easier.  Good armor and weapons on the ground can make any time you need to solo into a much more enjoyable experience.  If you are always scraping by to get armor and weapons, there are going to be times when you are under-equipped for your solo play and then you *really* are forced into grouping whether you want to or not.

    Greetings,

    if you like KOTOR, you will like the planet Kashyyk from the rage of the Wookiees expansion. Lots of quests, multi-part, multi-planet, ground-space mix.

    However, to survive there you will need to learn at least one elite fighter profession.

    Several forum readers here will be happy to help you with your first steps .... either on Naritus galaxy (contact me as Novarider or Delos) or on Lowca or some others ...

    I'll check it out.

    In terms of skills, how many professions do you usually strive to become good at ?. Could you specialise in say fighting like Pistoleer, Piloting and a non combat profession like smuggling ?

    Yes, in fact that is one of the more popular combos. In fact a friend of mine is the following:

    Master Pistoleer
    Master Smuggler
    Medic 0220
    Artisan 0030 (so he can have his own vendor)

    He sells spices and sliced goods on his vendor all the time. Sucker makes silly money too.

    piloting is completed on a completely seperate table then the rest of the ground skills.  piloting is also real time twitched based.  like a real fighter sim.  so it's a nice change of pace from the turn based ground game.

     

    as far as pistols.  i personally am enjoying Master Pistoleer/MAster Smuggler (Smuggla fo life!!)/4440 Commando.  The ability to use weapons and special attacks from different profressions can create some interesting combos.  Nothing like a rocket launcher Concussion Shot to keep the bad guys manageable.

    if you decide to join Eclipse, look up InVictus,  me and my PA certainly enjoying helping out new blood  :)  and of course you've seen many other offers from people ready and willing to assist you on other servers as well.
