You are right, this game is not a "traditional mmorpg", which is why I believe it is such a good game. Even NcSoft, the makers of the game don't call it an mmorpg, they call it an "online rpg". So, for the last time stop spamming up this forum with "Its not a mmorpg and doesn't belong on this site." There is NO ONLINE RPG.COM.
Besides what defines a mmorpg? If they are defined by camping mobs, getting ganked by much higher lvl players and other common traits of mmo's, then I'd much rather play GW.
Constructive criticism is one thing. Childish remarks with no substance are another. The posters of pointless flames are sad, and makes true gamers quite mad. So go somewhere else and complain cause everyone is sick you all being so lame.

In my opinion, persistent world is most central piece to being a mmorpg. This aspect is removed from GW almost totally and it has allowed much simpler map design compared to normal mmorpg.
This paper describes usual challanges related to implementation of persistent world. GW has taken clever sidestep to avoid most usual complexities, this has freed resources to improve game play and possiblity to run free to play servers. However, lots of mmorpg feel was lost at same time.
So, GW is good game and I play it but it doesn't give me what I get from traditional mmorpgs.
I completly agree. I am an avid GW player, and I come to this game topic to read about the game, not about how some people don't like it. I feel like I have to speak up. GW may not be a mmorpg by definition, but it fits all the descriptions of one. Even though the creators do not call it an mmorpg, that doesn't mean it isn't one. Its like this: if some guy's name is Tommy, but everyone calls him Tom, he will be known as Tom, but some people may not want to call him Tom, and thats perfectly fine. But even if you don't want to call this game an mmorpg, there is no point in flaming it, you should rate it for what it is, a great game. Besides, GW is on top in the ratings and everything. It doesn't matter how this game got to mmorpg.com, but if you don't have anything nice to say about it, don't say anything at all and get out of this forum topic, go to general discussion.
I think a few hardcore WoW fanboys who flooded this forum by starting theads like "This game sucks and I have nothing to say more". Last night I looked the first pages of both games on mmorpg.com. There was no thread like "your game sucks" in WoW forums, even there's no post that flames WoW players except a few one - I bet they're made due to provocations- But when I looked GW forum in here, oh my god, it's flooded by the threads saying "your game sucks". What's your motive? Really come on, you won't be able to alter the people's minds with this way. Cause you all are unable to give a valid reason to be able to say "GW sucks". Neither I nor other people who are trying to form an opinion and would like to hear impressions from experienced people in here will care about your posts which are full of hatred and insults and comments with a terrible English. Isn't it better to keep your mouth close and allow GW players communicate and help each other in here?

I think the people who flood this forum are just intimidated by this game. I sure would be if I found out that I'm paying 15 bucks a month for a game that is just as good or if not worse than GW, which has no subcription fee. Not even looking at subcription fees, GW has a lot of content including a wide variety of quests and so on and so forth. On another note, and as I mentioned previously, don't come to the GW section and start flaming up the game, I come to this section to discuss the game, not listen to all of your pointless flaming. If you don't like the game, keep it to yourself or tell someone who cares, because the people who read the GW section don't. I wish that someone would destroy all these flaming posts, and keep the ones that relate to the game. Who do I need to e-mail to get this changed? Seriously! I want to see discusions about the game, get some tips, and maybe even give a few. What do we need to do, start a petition? Because I'm sure there are many GW players who feel the same way as me. If any moderators are reading this, please try to make a change, thats all I'm asking. Thank you.

Here's a little quiz to try to help those intellectually impoverished gamers among you who think people who keep whinning about things like rouges are rediculous.
