WildStar was probably the best-kept industry secret up until last month's GamesCom but now Carbine Studios is ready to open the floodgates. In a brand new exclusive interview, MMORPG.com Managing Editor Bill Murphy had the opportunity to sit down for a candid chat with WildStar's Senior Producer Eric DeMilt. Check out what the pair chatted about and then let us know what you think in the comments.
What about the Scientist and Settler? They weren’t polished enough to let people play at PAX, but they sound really interesting. Could you delve into a few more details on how the Settler will spend his career?
I’d love to go into more detail about these, but I’d rather wait until we have something more to show about them. I’ll let you know when we’re ready to speak specifically about those paths.

Sweet, another one to add to my watch list.
Horrible graphics..
Another game for children.
I love this graphic style more than photreal. And what's the deal with "game for children"?

wait wait your a child to because you play games
.....
Dissapointing that its a 2 faction game, when will developers learn.
"Its better to look ugly and win than pretty and lose"
Where did you find this info..?
If so, yes, when will developers learn that 2 (or more) pre-set factions is NOT what the platers are looking for (wel, I'm not, and clearly you're not either).
Letshope the 2-faction thing is not there, but if it is, then I'm moving on already *looks at TERA and ArcheAge again*
Just found the factions. The one we've seen are the exiles. Humans, golums, and furries.
The other is called Dominion, but I didn't see anything else about that.
Why do they have to have such freakishly outlandish arms/hands? I know it is meant to be stylized but oh my that just looks terribad (imo).
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
Because it's not FOHTOHREEALEESTICK! And not drenched in blood and boobs, presumably. That's usually what people mean when they say something like this.
Developers did learn. They learned they could focus on a two faction game and it would work just fine. Especially in a game that doesn't appear to be focused on PvP.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
To me graphics looks cool and WOW demonstrates it is not a problem for inmersion. In fact, those photorealistic I have played have a poor inmersion (like Earthrise).
Offtopic: about the factions, what would be your preferred system? a player-driven one (based in guilds)?
Why do the reviewers here keep mentioning Firefly in relation to this game? None of the screenshots I've seen to date even begin to make me think of Firefly. Am I missing something?
It's the characters and the humor. Really have to watch videos/trailers to get the Firefly references.
Personally, I don't think it comes close to the brilliance that was and is Firefly, but I hold that show and its characters/settings as being pretty much the highest standards possible.
The more I hear about this game the more I love it. ^_^
All games are for kids, not that there is anything wrong with it.
Games just lose me when they split the player base in half, for recruiting it sucks. Make factions in game that matter, not just imposed on factions.
"Its better to look ugly and win than pretty and lose"
I don't understand "the deepest MMORPG ever" and grahpics that appeal to 12 year old boys who have no interest in deep games???
A truly deep game would take hundreds if not thousands of hours to uncover and 12 year olds have the attention span of a gnat.
Firefly was great but it sure didn't look like this. Firefly/Serenity was gritty not amine.
I keep asking myself "Why do people care so much about Graphics and Art style?"
Then I proceed to make a comment about SW:TOR's Animation and Art Style, a game I will likely play anyways.
The lulz capable of being produced from the internet is mighty.
People think it's fun to pretend your a monster. Me I spend my life pretending I'm not. - Dexter Morgan
I still need more information about this game to really get into it. The class system... it feels meh to me. Yeah I like being an explorer, but I like exploring places because it could be dangerous to do so, and I like killing things that are rare or haven't been found.. or just because I'm somewhere I shouldn't be and its attacking me. I like crafting and learning about lore or the history of a world when its interesting, and I love building a community to.
It sounds like when you're an explorer, you have a lot of exploring content.. when you're a soldier you have a lot of killing content... but I'm pretty balanced in everything that I do when its fun to do. I don't know why they want to make this mutually exclusive. But again, I'll reserve judgement until there is more information on all of the "paths"
"deepest MMORPG ever"?
wait and see. thats not the first time i heard that.
however, i like the graphics, even if i am not 12 years old. i just hope, they know, how deep the deepest could become.
played: Everquest I (6 years), EVE (3 years)
months: EQII, Vanguard, Siedler Online, SWTOR, Guild Wars 2
weeks: WoW, Shaiya, Darkfall, Florensia, Entropia, Aion, Lotro, Fallen Earth, Uncharted Waters
days: DDO, RoM, FFXIV, STO, Atlantica, PotBS, Maestia, WAR, AoC, Gods&Heroes, Cultures, RIFT, Forsaken World, Allodds
I hope I never grow up. ^_^
Common misconception - Paths (Explorer, Soldier, Settler, Scientist) are not Classes (ESPer, Warrior, Gunslinger [so far]). You can be a Warrior Explorer or a ESPer Soldier no problem.
The Paths gve extra content, there will be elements of it all that is open to any player - just the juciest stuff is likely to be Path-restricted.

Other than the freakish hands on the female mode, I'm not sure what the complaints are about. Stylized art should be the norm for MMOs as it stands up over time much better and takes less processing power to generate "quality" graphics (which has more advantages than just making it so any random computer can run the game).
Forever looking for employment. Life is rather dull without it.
I'm excited about this game. It's on my top 3 watch list with GW2 and ArcheAge.
I'm an explorer and have always been looking for a game that rewards my style of play. The reason I played Darkfall for 6 months was just to explore the vast world of Agon and it's dangers from the (relatively) interesting AI of the mobs and of the other players.
