Just a question on the state of the game

in Dark Age of Camelot

Like the title says I was wondering what the state of DAoC is because I have played warhammer and liked it but seemed to be missing something. DAoC seems interesting and I have read some threads on it but the problem seems to be a mix of people that are just sticking around with it because there is nothing else and people who say it is dieing. I want to know if the game is worth playing over other free options such as Realms Online or has the devs only been updating enough to keep the people staying happy?

    Hi Bitcl,

    Last time I played Dark age of Camelot was about 7 years ago and I really enjoyed playing it. In my opinion it was the best game I have ever played. I cant say for what the population is now as I stopped playing. But I too have heard that the population is not great but on here the user rating has gone up since last time I was on this site so people must still play.

    Game still has a decent pop IMO, 3-4k players during primetime all clustered so makes it pretty active.  Although you have to consider a large amount of those 3-4k are bots, still even if everyone had a bot thats probably close to 2k which though seems small you are all fighting in the same rvr zones.  Last time I played the bgs and frontier rvr were still going strong, with less mind numbing grinding to compete.

    Ok, well heres another questions from my first as both of you said that you have played in the past is there a big reason for leaving or just been playing too long? I am trying the trail for now but 14 days doesn't seem a good way to get a feel for how the game plays. I guess really I am looking for something similiar to Warhammer online but with more depth, but in the same thought I don't really trust the whole EA Mythic thing.

    The game is still active even after 9 years a month away from 10.  I still play the game now and if your a new player I really recommend doing a lot of research on the game. This is a very complicated game to play and can be a real headache.  This game is far from Warhammer gameplay just want to let you know that. The game still have a pretty good pop. and leveling in the game is really easy also they got more friendly ways of level in the new patch coming out you can read here http://darkageofcamelot.com/article/899 . Also in the upcoming patch they got a new system coming out that will teach new players and old players the ropes of the game and how to play your class. I would also recommend reading on each realm and classes daoc has a wiki page that give info about classes http://camelotherald.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_Age_of_Camelot_Wiki  You can find the best class to your liking this is not a gear base game its a skill based.  So the best gear don't win fights and there a lot more to look into on the game. Also daoc ui sucks not new user friendly at all. So find more info on custom ui's where you can find the best one you like people post alot of custom ui's on vn board daoc you can google vn board daoc ui and it will give u the link. Thats all I can think about now but I hope you enjoy the game if you come on hibernia look up Ravkeen I'll help you out a little.
