Dead Island Features Pantiless Heroine(s)?

HazardHeresyHazardHeresy Member UncommonPosts: 6

If you're playing Dead Island right now, you're most likely too busy defending yourself from hordes of zombies to notice Xian running about commando style and maybe Perna too. That's right, you and everyone else, including the ESRB, had no idea there was nudity in this game. If you check the ESRB or other game rating sites, you will notice there is no included "nudity" in the rating or the review. This means this was hidden from the game raters as well as players like you and me. Either one really sneaky dev or the whole team thought it would be a funny idea.

But wait, remember when "Hot Coffee" was found in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas? It featured the main character humping his girl friends, partially clothed, earning the game a new rating of ADULT ONLY once the ESRB found out. Not only that, but Rockstar, the develepers of GTA, took heavy fire from many groups and people, including U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton. When a game does have nudity, it's normally just a butt shot or a topless woman. When have you ever seen a pussycat in a M rated game?

The answer is never and if the ESRB or the other game raters for the game release outside of America knew about this, they might have given the game a higher rating, or at least put "nudity" in the M rating. But should lower nudity and sex be placed in the same category? It's an odd subject to talk about. If you place a penis in a movie, it will be rated pg13 and everyone will laugh about it. However, the moment you put a cooter somewhere, the rating skyrockets.

The same can be seen in gaming. In the new GTA IV expansion, The Lost and Damned, there is a nude male character featured in one scene. The game itself was rated M but did include "nudity" in the rating meaning it is obvious the ESRB did not know about Dead Islands little up skirt surprise. But again, we are talking about man meat here and that's nothing serious when it's shown in media. But for this, would Dead Island get a higher rating?

It's very possible. You already see it in films in other video games. Showing a meat rod is apparently just funny but the moment you show some love tunnel, things get serious and quick. Why do I even care about any of this? I'm the first to report this story, so with that, I'll gladly say "FIRST"!

I am actually not surprised, Purna's skill "Gender Wars" was apparently called "Feminist Whore" before.

So it's not a big deal to try to hide nudity from the ESRB and other game raters when rating a game? You do understand that customers of the game now have valid grounds to sue the company for this like they did with GTA: SA, right? Of course like Rockstar they are going to claim that a "rogue dev" snuck this in and they did not know about it, thus saving them from court. But still!...

Oh derp de doo, it's a game about killing the slavering undead en masse and the ultra-violence doesn't bat an eyelid, but as soon as there's any female genitalia involved it's suddenly the antichrist?

Well she must tan a whole lot, because her Lady Zone is way lighter than the rest of her.  Maybe that's why nobody noticed because it's so light it just looks like panties.

eh, they snuck in a lot of sex scenes in the games... i mean come on there were porno scenes in it where women were tied down and some of them had their chests eaten out (you think that didnt bring any sort of flack into the game?) hell its in the beginning when your exploring the beach hotels..

this is just another thing they added and im betting the base model was fully nude and they forgot to add the panties underneath..

its easier to work with a full nude model then to create clothing that may not work correctly overtop when you are placing the bones into thebody and skinning the rig (means to make it bend and move correctly)

Some people choose the dumbest things to get upset over.

If people should be getting upset over anything it's the violence in the game. A bit of nudity never hurt anyone.

Perhaps worded a bit harshly, whereas I would use the opportunity (like any other) to show off my English vocabulary and be all feigned intellectual about it, but I fully subscribe to your sentiment and often find myself flabbergasted by the hypocrisy you so clearly make apparent.

In all honestly, it has nothing to do with how upset you are. Rather how upset you can make yourself look for money. Because as I said, this has decent grounds for someone to take the company to court. If you can fake how damaged you are by this material that you were unaware of in the game based on the rating, you can pull in some bank. I personally have no problems with nudity, but that's not the point of my story either.

    Looks like a model/texture mishap/oversight

I'm surprised someone was focused so much on a game character's crotch that they noticed this lol

The wiki entry for the game mentions some controversy about Puma being called something along the lines of a feminist hooker or some such, maybe this is related heh

    Yippee, it's this thread again.

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

that's not true, nudity can hurt if you are wearing really really tight pants.

When you blow up someone playing Xian and then she flies back into your face, you kind of notice. At first I thought I was just crazy but then I asked a few people to look for me and they said it's there. So then I pulled up fraps and still framed it to see it. Even with my video I could not tell, it was going too fast. But once I got some still shots of it... Video time!

I think you are nuts, I don't see what you see in the video, its where her legs come together and its kinda blurry.

This is like complaining about staticy porn on public access TV, you later realize you were upset about an infomercial for arm cream and it wasn't porn at all.   (IE you saw skin and static and jumped to conclusions)

As many people on the youtube video point out, it doesn't even look like what you are claiming it is.

Edit: Just showed it to a few friends of mine, one of them being a girl, she said she doesn't see it, and thinks that if you think you are seeing girl parts then you probably have no idea what they look like...

honestly sir you are getting upset over absolutely nothing

And my home features a pantiless and more often than not a totally clothless girlfriend.  Oh the horror...

With the internet being compromised of about 70% hardcore porn, and people take the time to bitch about this!  Good Grief!!!

I'm sorry that the point of this flew over your head completely. But hey, at least you have a girlfriend, so don't feel too bad about it.

Anywho, I reuploaded the video so that it is a bit better with some info and what I wrote here. Check it out!

Wow, some people just have too much time on their hands... Who cares?

I don't think this is a game you should buy your pre teen kids anyways, and anyone older have seen way worse if they ever had access to the internet.

I mean we are talking about plenty of blood and guts which is fine but then someone notice a little rather pathetic nudity? Anyone thinking blood and guts are just fine but nudity is bad should see a psychologist.

It is just a game, calm down.

I hadn't noticed, but I play Logan primarily so that is probably why.

Comical stuff, I'll have to take a little peek next time I login Xian. Just for curiosities sake, of course ;)

Women running around without undies on?

I fail to see the problem.

yer info there is kinda bass-ackward.  You can pretty much get away with female nudity and still get a pg 13 rating in the movies, it's when you show full shots of the male twigs and berries that gets ya the uptight MPAA no-no's.  And of course they also think about the amount that's shown, in what context, the duration, how many times do we see the bits and pieces, was it intentional or accidental,  yadda-yadda, etc, etc.

Now in Video games, you don't see any bit or pieces unles the art teams say you do, if you see brewbies, it's cause they said...let there be juggs, and there were, and teenagers everywhere said....we can see better in 3 min on our schools library internet consoles.  The act of simulated sex however, for some reason, everybody goes apeshit over.  I saw the hot coffee BS (something you had to mod your xbox to see btw, or change a line or two in the pc's files I believe), and I have to say, I've seen steamier sex scenes on day time tv.  But, people went haywire with the "OMG sex in a video game!" bandwagon...somehow forgetting that in that same game one could walk up to an officer of the law npc and bash his head in with a bat....sounds about right to me....

I agree. Theres nothing wrong with nudity. People should be more worried about the violence in video games now. Being someone with depression I actually can't play Dead Island for more then 3 hours or I start to feel depressed. I actually had to uninstall it tonight. I know to most of you it dosn't effect you because its a video game but there are people out there who take these video games very seriously. You can't just say theres nothing wrong with it just because your differn't, thats being ignorant. To me I personally think some of the violence in video games is getting a bit rediculas. I don't mind blood and gore, I'm used to it, but I really don't need to hear woman and men being tortured and suffering when they die. It's sick, and I think anyone who likes that in video games need to go see a doctor because clearly you got something mentally wrong with you.

Also in Modern Warfare 2 they had that scene were some russians go in a airport and just start shooting civilians. It was kind of neat, because I had never seen a remake of something like the highschool shootings, but also was kind of disturbing to me because I realized it was glorifying those high school shootings. I mean we all know they have ratings on them but kids still play them. I know after watching horror movies all the time it changed my thinking as well. I no longer get scared or grosed out watching them, because Im normalized to it all. Weather you want to believe it or not. Seeing things over and over again does change your thought process.

I mean how far is too far? 10 years from now are they going to make a game were you play a guy raping woman? There needs to be a fine line drawn soon. In this day and age we got alot of disturbed people in our society more so then we did 40 years ago, hmm Probably because you can practicly learn how to kill someone just by going on the internet and watching someones head being cutt off by terrorists, looking at crime scene photo's of the charlse manson murders, or by watching Dexter on T.V

It's Sick, and it pissed me off that people buy all the media BS

:Note: I'm not saying get rid of all the violence in video games. I just think they really need to put stiffer penaltys with kids playing these types of games, or with anything related to the media. The ratings system does not work, because Parents now a days in my age group are Lazy and Don't know how to properly be a Parent to thier kids.
