If you really want to try it out stop waiting for someone else to give you the go. Just go on amazon, get it for 10 dollars, and play for free. If you end up not liking it you're only out 10 dollars, and if you do then you made one of the best purchases in your life. Honestly it erks me when I see posts like this because the logic behind it is just... well retarded. :/

Perhaps before calling out some one as a retard mate you should read his post, he is clearly already playing the game and having a hard time dealing with the ingame systems.

A lot of people WILL Struggle with this because since the original FF online and EQ days which this game wants to hark back to, a whole generation of gamers have been brought into the fold, and they are used to EQ2, WOW style gaming.

Its not always just a bad thing either, one of the problems with FFXIV is it does a terrible job of explaining ANYTHING to you.  Its simple BAD DESIGN when you have to look at out of game resources (Websites ect) to understand fundamental ingame systems.  Its one thing to offer challenging content but to make the challenge one of having to second guess the UI or figure out how to do simple ingame tasks (note tasks not quests) such as getting started with crafting thats bad design.

He also states that the ingame community has largely ignored his requests for help, finally when he posts about it he gets called retarded.

No offense but for a game thats dieing on its feet and has a tiny tiny player base, well you would think the player base would be more helpful.  The OP slates Vanguard which is another game that screwed up its launch and yes SE are handling it much better but the VG community is a lot more helpful to players thats for sure.

First of all im on Selbina server playing a THM lvl 12 atm :)
@Kothoses, thanks for puting my thougts into small pieces...
Im not the kind of player that wants everything on a plate, but i do expect some tips from the older players, thats what online playing is all about, interaction :)

And yes VG comunity is, as far as it concerns me, doing a lot more in helping newbs.
But since FF is runing free to play ill be around for a while, since the game as some aspects that cought my attention ;)

    Cheers

Suprises me that you would have this problem on Selbina, the best server community in the game.  How do you approach people with questions, do you just /shout questions or send tells to people?  When do you play?

Anyways I'm on Selbina feel free to add me to your friend's list and ask me any questions.  You might also want to get in a casual/leveling linkshell.

Though not exhaustive a good place to start looking for one would be:

I actually like how FFXIV is right now.  It has a couple of rough edges that are going to be ironed out in the next patch, but if I have one complaint the game is too easy to level.  I've gotten 5 jobs to 50, and every job over 30 (including crafts, which are really really easy compared to ffxi).  If it was me, I'd get rid of the leves and go back to the old fashioned grind of ffxi, but then noone would play it but me /cry

Players always cry about how they don't want a game like WoW, yet when they come out they say I wish this had "WoW component".  I guess you can't please anyone these days.

  • EmeraqEmeraq Member UncommonPosts: 1,063

I'm trying to get into the game. I have a level 18 conjurer, physical level 17 and finding something to do is difficult. Guild Leves aren't plentiful, rewards are rather ho-hum and to be honest they are quite boring. Not to mention crafting, geesh I liked crafting in UO, LOTRO, even Aion had an interesting crafting system, but FFXIV.. snooze and on top of it getting the components to craft or knowing how/where to find them isn't easy.  Oh and harvesting, I don't even begin to pretend to understand harvesting in this game.

I'm on Mysidia and absolutely no one talks.

I started asking on public chat/shouting...then i literaly sited on Ul'dah near the teleport crystal thingy sending tells to ppl passing, i was there for about an hour lol and no one seem'd to care, some would not reply others just telling me they were busy or didnt knew, the question was simple, "hi can u tell me if theres a warehouse or bank were i can store my stuff like mats etc... if theres one can u point were" not a hard question i think, and in the meanwhile i was hoping to get a conversation going, and see if i could find a way to get in a linkshell.

Like i said earlier, im not a type of guy that wants every thing on a plate, but since this isnt a game u can just jump in and start rushing to lvl cap, and start crafting like u do in WoW or any similar game, having a nice comunity to give u some pointers is allways great.

Anyways, i usualy play in the morning or a litlle at this time of night GMT+0 =)

Thanks for the site, as it have some good info about the game, hope ill catch u up ingame, good karma FTW =)

    Cheers ^^

Square has not changed their ways one bit.Since that botched up lazy approach to FXIV,they have made so many lazy ass decisions in ffxi,it drove me away from the game.I think what we have since Tanaka is out,is a bunch of new wave WOW type gamers making the decisions. They have already turned FFXI into WOW2,no more game ,just end game loot grinding,i can't think of a more lame game design than that.

How in one swoop a developer can change a game so badly is beyond me,but i guess SOE did the same with SWG.

This is not something related to ONLY FFXIV,this is a trend i have watched for many years now.I am not sure if it is greed or taking your customers for granted or new people in charge,i really don't know.

This trend started back in the TOAU xpac for FFXI,they ruined the entire game that exhisted just to sell the NEW xpac.I guess they were worried that if old content remained viable ,they wouldn't sell many xpacs. They didn't even fisnish the story lines /quests ,took many months after to get those in order.I remeber when they introduced the new classes, they didn't even have the AF gear ready for pupp.Yep this trend started long ago,and we saw it in copy /paste mapping inm FFXIV,we saw it in those incredibly cheap xpacs kupo detat or whatever they were called. They rehashed old maps in the other xpac, just incredible cheap lazy effort.

Their own staff said the new game engine was a mistake and you know why? They kept it too much in line with the old one, because they were worried about retraining their staff. So yes everywhere you turn they are cheap 101,trying to cut corners to save a buck. You know who i see is doing this same thing now?A-Net..cutting corners 101.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Ok its hard for me to understand what you're saying with all the typos friend. proof-reading FTW.

OP: I think it's amazing that they are adding people to the team to help get this game in shape. as a long time FF-er i was very upset when i first started this game and myself even cited it to be a failure once i started playing it.

However with this information about the dev team, i am letting the embers of hope i keep poking flame up abit, why would they spend more time and money on this game if they dont think they can make it right :) i missed the era of FFXI, but the wonderful things i've heard about it make me long for an MMO with the FF tag attached. my two cents

FFXIV is weak mmorpg with poor combat system. They can add anything they like but game will not be good if current battle system is in use, lol. Guys, its unplayable.

    Ged an SSD.

The game is in a very good shape at the moment. I can't wait for patch 1.19. My bet is tons of players will come back the moment auction house and chocobos are in.

Any buddy keys to try out available?

I for one won't really judge it unless I had my hands on it and tried it.  Goes for most any game, though I have a few prejudices towards a few companies but who doesn't?

Square is one I am ambivalent to though, little experience with them as I only ever played FF Tactics by them that I know of.

I just can't get over the fact that 40% of the posters her have some of the worst subject-verb agreement issues I've ever seen in my life. If you plan to make a point please write it so it's coherent, that way I can understand your most likely poorly planned argument Thanks.
