DOTA2: Coming Sooner Than Expected

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The DOTA 2 blog has been updated with the news that developers are listening to player feedback about wanting to play the game as soon as possible rather than to have devs stick to a lengthy beta and adjustment phase.

According to the post, DOTA 2 team will "get it out there as fast as we can". The dev team will be making adjustments and gradually expanding the beta pool over time. Developers are encouraging potential players to get signed up so as not to miss a minute.

Dota has imbalance issues from before, and that is normal and to balance it perfectly may be somewhat possible but will only delay the game for something that is not a big deal if the imbalance is small, anyhow. The only issue would be graphical and compatibility. So release the game and dont waste resources on beta, but instead balance while it is running, and invest some time on new maps/heros.

Unless it does need beta testing that badly, which would be a suprise since dota is quite balanced and has a lot of content already, and expanding on that should mean more maps, before there are more heros. So many heros already!

pls take more time. footage we've seen was not very impressive, at least not good enough to beat LoL, imo.

LoL has goten  too big, I think for any MOBA to "beat" it. Though dota will do well still. Unlike MMORPGS, I think players are more likely to play more then one MOBA at a time. That fact, pluss its just dota damnit, it will do fine... better then HoN at least. ^^

On joy another clone!  We have HoN which ported the same hero and items over!  Why the F do we need this?

Wow. We've sunk so low that we're calling sequels clones now?

To be fair. Dota 2 really is just a clone of Dota.

Kind of hard to argue that when the core games are supposed to be identical.

Dota 2 IS a clone of Dota 1. It only has new nice graphics, engine for that game mechanic, and made by Valve.

The only features some people need when buying new games. Not me, just so you know.

And it just has a big company behind it while DotA had...nothing? DOTA2 is an E sport game just like DotA was, it does not compete with LoL because it aims at a different audience. And its not a "CLONE" its a SEQUEL because the person who made dota maps over the last several years is now working at Valve.

New engine was necessary, not everyone likes wc3 so much and it was about damn time.

imo, the gameplay for dota 2 is way much better than lol i.e. more strategic elements needed.

I laughed pretty hard when I saw this... LoL (League of Legends) is probably one of the biggest e-sport games out there right now, and it is doing everything it can to promote e-sport. As a matter of fact, the new season will have about 5$ million in prizes..

They will beat LoL without trying if they dont have a similar grind like LoL. I played LoL and I cant play long enough to get all the achievements for runes. Its nice to add the carrot to the sitck for some, but it is a strategy game with a long grind. I am not cool with that.

So imo, Dota2 only has to expand on Dota1 and they are already going to succeed. They already have a great techno song. It has a huge following as well.

I suppose there is going to be some kind of MT shop/grind as payment to support developement, or maybe not. Since Dota did not have MT and that was an amazing RTS, or as they call them MOBA.

Dominion has taken DOTA to the next level...I don't even need HoN anymore

For Dota 2 to succeed they need a better new player experience.

LoL has a great tutorial and lets you play solo with bots early on so you can learn your champs at your own pace.

LOL currently has four maps, two game modes and 80+ champs.

I dont see how Dota 2 can release with 45 champs and one map and compete.

    Playing: Nothing

    Looking forward to: Nothing

Dota 2 can release with 4 champions and half a map and still compete.

Im a long time HoN and LoL player but damn I just cant go back there anymore.

There is very little doubt in the DOTA community that DOTA2 won''t be a smashing success.

Mainly because War3-Dota rivals League of Legends in terms of accounts.

More accurately, War3-Dota has a 12-13M download everytime it is updated.

    LoL has 15M accounts.

Most of the big names in War3-Dota community has stated that they are migrating to DOTA2 due to sponsorships/tournements; $$$

However, War3-Dota players are fairly segregated from LoL/HoN so most don't expect a large migration from LoL/HoN to DOTA2.

LOL will survive easily cause of his huge playerbase and what's equally important , it is quite diffrent from oryginal Dota. Ofc very similar games as both are MOBA , but diffrent enough to make singificant diffrence.

While HoN is just a fork of Dota.  I think HoN will take a huge hit after Dota 2 release.
