This week's SotW is a tie between two pretty hefty announcements. Earlier in the week, SOE announced that DCUO is going F2P after just several months on the market. Then just this morning BioWare announced the launch date for their upcoming MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic. And we thought September would be dead for news?
I was writing this week’s SotW (Story of the Week) all about DC Universe Online’s conversion to a Freemium F2P model, when I received an e-mail from those pesky lads and lasses at BioWare… apparently they’re making a Star Wars game, calling it Star Wars: The Old Republic and its launch date is now December 20th in the NA and December 22nd in the EU.

I think I just split my tea....oh well there goes those TOR:'who the hell preordered without a release date threads?!'...:P
On another note thats incrediably close to Christmas, I do wonder how their going to manage that seeings as most people try and buy around November and early December time for presents. Oh and the Christmas post....in the U.K?!
I've got a bad feeling about this...pun intended :P
Luckily my wife knows that I don't wait until Christmas to get games... I get them when they come out, dammit. :P

Excellent news.. Xmas gifts are about to get easier to buy for a bunch of humans!
Seriously, I'm glad it's not next year or November.. December feels about right. If it was November people would say "I have a bad feeling about that date". If it was next year people would say "I have a bad feeling about that date".
Oh wait... trolls are still saying that about December. Never mind
"TO MICHAEL!"
haha, QFT!
In my case my wife will not be able to wait either. I am so excited, all of my friends from UO are cropping up and we are all goign to make a guild together. It's gonna be like old times!
Remember Old School Ultima Online
OH yeah this ^^
DCUO must have failed completely as a subscription game for them to switch to F2P so quickly. The only person I know who played it played on his PS3 and didn't bother picking it up again after the whole PSN hacking fiasco.
I better get Skyrim too as the SWTOR-Servers may blow up over the hollidays^^
Poor tech folks will have no x-mas at all!
But yeah, great it will come and the sub is affordabe too (as i have no other sub running atm).
(smile in anticipation)

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Finaly!
Sweet, while early January I will probably be doing whatever training I have to do if I manage to find a job, still a good amount of time to have some fun. I wonder when early access starts?
20th for US and 22nd for Europe? I would Imagine it really comes out on the 13th of Dec for early access for those who pre-ordered and managed to get a copy, wouldn't this date be misleading?
Blizzard will announce Diablo 3 for when free month ends for sure!! :P
The way things are going how long before Item shops and F2p show up for SWTOR. Any guesses.
MAGA
Was excited. No confirmation email for just signing up with their webpage. Not so much excitement 3 hours later.
Unimpressive to say the least. If they can't get that right what's the game going to be like.
Well, I won our guild/office pool...
I had Dec. 16th, the day after a different set of Galaxies blink out of existence.
I've said all along that anybody who had a date before 12/15/11 was deluding themselves.
All that being said, I'm still on the fence about whether or not I'll be travelling further back in time to the days of the Old Republic.
The hard part for me is this; besides one person that I started playing EQ with in '99, and another who only started playing MMOs with LOTRO, the rest of my guild of friends and I all started together in the dust of Tatooine in the Gorath Galaxy way back when. All of those folks have been chomping at the bit for this title since Bioware made it official that they were taking the plunge into the Lucas-verse.
One of my guildies got into the beta, and he does nothing but orgasm continuously on TS about how great it is. And he's the newcomer to MMOs (which of course causes much gnashing of teeth amongst the longtime vets and SW fanbois amongst our group)
I dunno, I'll probably wind up bending to the will of the many, but only after the release, and probally not before the start of 2012...
Of course, my perspective on all of this could be changed at anytime between now and release...if I ever get that damned Beta invite I've been signed up for since the first day they started taking applications.
Anyone and everyone can feel free to disagree with any or all of my opinions and observations whenever I rarely post them; it doesn't bother me one bit. Just know that I'll likely never respond to YOUR disagreement or personal attack, because I know better than to argue with idiots, especially upon internet Forums. See what I did there? -- Dinidain

"Its still September !!! "
GAhhhhhhh!!
Anyone have a large freezer?
Have a sense of humor, no need to get ALL MODDY ! A Simpson's quote shouldn't be worth a warning. You are lucky anyone is bothering to read this rag.
I've got admit I've allowed myself to be excited about SWTOR in a way I haven't been in a long time. While it's good to know the release date what concerns me is how many boxes will be available upon release. I recall some of my friends not being able to find a copy of WOW for weeks after its release due to it being sold out everywhere. I preordered myself a copy at my local EB & I'm fairly certain they follow the first come to pick it up first served policy regardless of preorders & with Chrstmas trips happening about that time. Oh well time will tell. I just can't wait to play.
I already feel bad for the people that will be forced to work through xmas to ensure the game is running propperly, just to avoid that dreadful "failed launch=failed game" syndrom. Well if Bioware's smart they will force people to be there during xmas lol just incase.
Don't do it! You'll only end up a golden child to a future otter race, and due to technology changes you will never be able to play it!!
Haha, Awesome ep of South Park, Still, Nothing will beat the WOW ep.
Yeah Dec sounds good to me, There are some pretty good game on the horizon too.
yah, the question now is what to play 'till Dec... Rage? Battlefield 3?
All I can say is FINALLY! This was unexpected given the fact that it's a weekend, but I'm glad to finally have a ship date.
I sense a great disturbance in the force my young apprentice.... EA to push another game out because they can't wait anymore. We need that money now!
It sounds like SWTOR will be "meh" at best. Well, at least according to this guy.

He has seen behind the iron curtian of SWTOR! Personally, i can't take the word of a hardcore Cryptic brown noser on this.
So, what are ya'lls thoughts on how the game will do?
