There is no way the employees at Bioware would have chosen this as a good release date. This reeks of EA ordering this title to ship this year or else, regardless what the actual quality of the game is. Odds are good for a less than polished release at this pont in time.

Probably 2 or 3 days before the 20th, although some people seem to have it in their heads that it will be a week of early access.

I agree with the weekend before. Download on the 13th, game play late afternoon on the 16th makes sense. Should be enough time to get off the starter planet and into or even off the home planet depending on how many hours you play. Having 4 days will be enough to spread out the player base for launch.

well according to reid on twitter it will be more than weekend

Timing on Early Game Access for #SWTOR will be announced closer to launch. It'll be a number of days - not just a weekend.

Finally! Now the guessing game of how much time off I need for early access can begin.

Early Access will start Dec 16th Book it.  SWG Ends on the 15th and they will want to pick right up.  I am sure this was the intended plan all along

I am going to agree with you here.

Something smells like a basket of fish. Just earlier this week BW announced they are working on a new build and going to run more test with betas. heck, they still are under NDA and releasing? Sound like beta is 12-20 and no one gets jaded which is good news.

I'm willing to bet real money that SW:TOR will release with more polish than 90% of MMO's released in the last few years.

I find it odd also, but on the other hand the leak of the steelseries products for SWTOR indicated a release date this year. Lets hope its polished and ready to go!

I would not complain at all. And it would allow them to have fewer servers at launch. And I know they talked about a staggerd launch with early access. But we will have to see. And Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon is more than a weekend.image

We'll see, but only 4 days of "Early Access" would probably have enough people whining that I doubt that they would go this route.  My estimate of more around the 13th/14th.  We'll just have to wait and see what is announced though.

Except that it was EA that kept stressing to its investors that it could get pushed back to 2012 and it was Bioware that were holding firm to a 2011 release.

Guess this means i have to update the feature list now :)

Good news to hear it's got a release date, now the real waiting can begin

only 88 days to go :)

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

I really dont think they want to step on the feet of SWG players there for the final day.  Players who have played SWG for years are gonna want to be there on the 15th, and also want to play TOR.  I dont think they will compete with each other.  SWG should have a big send off.

Yeah, exactly. Plus the vast majority of people working at Bioware will get the time off anyway. All they'll need to run the game is the QA people, the server people, and the CS people.

How is a concept artist, engine programmer, or writer going to be any help so soon after launch? Actually, I bet 95% of Bioware's employees will get an extra long holiday this year before they go back to the grindstone in early January.

  • DistopiaDistopia Member EpicPosts: 21,183

I just find it funny people act as though they know what is going on behind the scenes over there, for all we know they could have sought volunteers, put it up to a vote on release or not, etc...

another thing, is why should we cry cause they have to work over the holidays, some people in the real world, dont get to make games for a living and actually have jobs that run year round.  Jobs that you cant really close down for 2-3 weeks at a time.

I wouldnt cry for them, but I know people in the game world don't enjoy working over holidays anymore than you do. However, it is one of the many downsides to working in that industry that they are aware of. What sucks is a lot of families don't always understand that part of the job.

    What about Australia?

Thats right, Origin doesn't allow Australians to pre-order, I guess we can just pre-order from Amzaon

Oh wait, we have to pay $50 for delievery that takes more than a week to get here.

Guess we get the shaft up the butthole again.

If you pre-order and have the code, what's stopping you from registering the code and downloading the client for the 'head start'?

It is an MMORPG so I assume you know you have to have an internet connection. :P

What I'm saying is that we have to pay $50 extra for it to be sent here, Australian can't digital order the game from Origin.

And you can't just cancel the order just to get head start

That DOES suck! 50 dollars for shipping and no downloads from Origin, I feel for you.  Will you be able to download on release date?  It sounds like the early access stuff is going to be very short term.

Well Australia aren't getting retail options, Origin isn't accepting pre-orders from Australia. So yea, ordering physical package from overseas is the onlyoption right now =

Probs not gonna play until they release retail here, since download 30gb is pretty hefty as well.
